He murmured, " Yan'er, how have you been these past few years?"
The car glided smoothly along the road, the sycamore trees racing past us like a blur. I smiled slightly. "Do I look like I'm doing well?"
He sighed and fell silent.
I continued, "Thank you for that night."
He raised an eyebrow at me. "Which night?"
I felt my cheeks flush. "The one where…"
He feigned realization. "Oh— I thought you wouldn’t ask me about that."
I pouted, "Why don't you ask me?"
He chuckled lightly, "Why did you leave that night?"
I sulked, "Because I didn't want to be caught in bed by your wife."
He flicked my forehead, "If I'm not afraid, why should you be?"
I rubbed my forehead and shot him a glare.
He was always like this, carefree and unrestrained.
The car soon arrived at my apartment complex.
I grabbed my handbag and swayed my hips as I got out of the car.
Chen Zhaonian suddenly pulled me back, not letting me leave.
I raised an eyebrow at him, "What's up? Want to come up for a visit?"
He squinted at me, "What do you mean by that?"
I poked his chest with my finger, "Nothing much, just the literal meaning."
He held my hand, "How many men have you asked that question?"
I tilted my head and looked at him, "Are you jealous?"
He snorted coldly, "Don't change the subject."
I laughed in frustration, "Chen Zhaonian, aren't you being a bit too controlling?"
He stared at me intently, "I don't like the way you are right now."
I laughed coldly, "Well, it doesn't matter if you don't like it; this is who I am."
He tightened his grip on my wrist, " Yan'er, stay by my side, okay?"
I tilted my head at him, "Stay by your side for what? To be your mistress?"
He pressed his lips together, "I'll find a way."
I laughed again, "What kind of way? To support me? Mr. Chen, you might not know this yet, but I'm quite expensive now."
Chen Zhaonian looked at me in silence.
I continued, "Are you sure you can afford to keep me?"
Chen Zhaonian lowered his head in contemplation for a moment, then opened the car door and pulled me out.
"Get out," he said.
I raised an eyebrow at him.
"I'll consider it," he replied.
I thought about becoming Chen Zhaonian's mistress. But I also knew that being a mistress wasn't a long-term solution; sooner or later, I would have to marry.
Would I really spend my life with him, without any name or status? He said he would find a way, and I thought that even if he stopped loving me, he would still give me a title.
To my surprise, he actually wanted me to be his mistress! When he had dumped me back then, he hadn't even given me a reason. Later, I heard through other classmates that he had married An Huaishan.
