"What is this place?" Yun Shaoyan asked.
"Don't you know?" Su Lingyu slowly got up, turning to look at him. "Half a year ago, my husband went missing on our wedding day. Not long after, his body was found here. Do you know how much I hate that murderer?"
The tenderness that once shone in Su Lingyu's eyes had vanished. She pulled a gun from her bag, the weapon she kept for self-defense, never expecting that one day she would point it at the person she loved.
She loved him. When he broke through the shackles of the world like a whirlwind and entered her life, when he risked everything to take her away from the Wen Family, she was reluctant to admit it but could not deceive herself… But why did he have to be the murderer?
Yun Shaoyan's eyes widened in confusion. "What… are you saying?"
"Stop lying to me!" Su Lingyu looked at him with deep sorrow. "If it weren't for you, Wen Jing wouldn't have died, and I wouldn't be a widow! Everything I am now is because of you!"
As soon as the words left her lips, she shut her eyes tightly and pulled the trigger. The bullet shot out instantly, piercing Yun Shaoyan's chest, blood splattering everywhere.
"I… don’t understand." Yun Shaoyan slowly fell to the ground, coughing violently twice. "I met Wen Jing; we were kidnapped by bandits… After they received the ransom, we were released!"
That was right; it was there that he heard Wen Jing talk about how wonderful his wife was. Curiosity and envy stirred within him, prompting him to come here, only to find that Wen Jing was already dead and she had become a widow.
He had indeed felt a sense of relief—if Wen Jing was dead, then perhaps Su Lingyu could belong to him? So he approached her without scruples!
But—
"I didn't kill Wen Jing!"
That was the one thing he would insist on until his dying breath. The look of hatred in her eyes made him feel unbearable pain.
"You still want to argue?" Su Lingyu threw away the gun and ran to Yun Shaoyan's side but felt as if all her strength had been drained away, collapsing onto the ground.
She couldn't bring herself to do it; she didn't want to shoot anymore. Her misfortune stemmed from him, yet all the happiness in her life had also begun with him.
"I'm sorry, Wen Jing. If it weren't for me, if I hadn't married him, Wen Jing wouldn't have died!" She shouldn't have married a good man with a sense of relief in her heart. Now, she had also harmed Yun Shaoyan. "Don't worry; I will come to accompany you..."
With tears blurring her vision, Su Lingyu glanced at the gun beside her and unsteadily stood up, walking over to pick it up.
Suddenly, someone rushed out from the side and snatched the gun first, pointing it directly at her. "Su Lingyu, today I won't let you go!"
It was Ruan Xiaolian.
Su Lingyu felt a bit dazed; how did she end up here?
"Didn’t expect this, did you? You two lovebirds are going to die at my hands!"
Ruan Xiaolian laughed maniacally. "But you really are lucky; your little lover and husband love you so much!"
She was filled with jealousy. Why did Su Lingyu get to have the love of Wen Jing and Yun Shaoyan?
Su Lingyu was stunned. "Is... it you?"
What was she saying?
"Yes, it’s me! I’m the one who killed your cousin! Who told him to marry you, that worthless piece of trash? He just wouldn’t choose me!" If she couldn’t have him, then she would destroy him! Don’t worry, you’ll see him soon."
The already deranged Ruan Xiaolian pulled the trigger. Su Lingyu was terrified; she had misunderstood Yun Shaoyan! She even wanted to kill him herself!
What had she done?
Regret and fury crashed into her fragile heart. She closed her eyes, waiting for death to arrive.
However, the expected pain did not come. Instead, a warm embrace enveloped her tightly.
“Lingyu…” His gentle voice still carried a hint of affection.
Su Lingyu opened her eyes in terror, only to see Yun Shaoyan’s smile fading away, replaced by an icy expression.
“Don’t…” A fear she had never experienced before engulfed her. “Don’t…”
Why had it come to this?
Yun Shaoyan shook his head gently and slowly closed his eyes. He suddenly understood Wen Jing’s feelings at that moment; even in death, he wanted her to live well.
With his last ounce of strength, he held her hand tightly.
Live well.
The ship bound for Nanyang slowly departed from the port.
Su Lingyu held Yun Shaoyan's ashes in her arms, her expression calm, a faint smile gracing her lips.
Ruan Xiaolian was captured by the arriving Yun Family Servant and taken to the police station.
The charges of shooting were seemingly placed upon her.
Su Lingyu did not know what punishment awaited her, but it was certain that it was well-deserved.
After taking care of the affairs of the Yun Family and the Wen Family, she set off with Yun Shaoyan's ashes towards the world they once dreamed of.
"Shaoyan..." This was the first time she called his name, "I told you not to come near me..." It would bring misfortune.
Yet, no matter how great the misfortune, it could not hinder my love for you.
He had said he loved her.
Even amidst misfortune, even in life and death apart, they would never be separated.
