Xiao Wanqing was at a loss for words. "Jiang Hao!"
Jiang Hao curled his lip, casting a disdainful glance at the man on the ground before giving him a kick. Only then did he look up at her, snorting coldly, "Dear Wanqing, I thought you had completely forgotten about me!"
Xiao Wanqing forced a couple of dry laughs. "How could that be…"
She felt like crying without tears. Why was he here? Although he already knew her identity, the palace was not so easy to enter!
Jiang Hao narrowed his eyes, locking his gaze onto her as he said softly, "You've come here to meet your lover; how could you possibly have time to think of me?"
Xiao Wanqing was speechless. Why couldn't he just speak normally? This place is not where you should be; you really should… She desperately tried to change the subject, urging him to leave quickly.
"Wanqing, I've realized that I don't want to be apart from you for even a moment," he suddenly declared. Xiao Wanqing's heart raced at his unexpected straightforwardness. Why was she blushing?
As footsteps approached outside, Jiang Hao pulled her into the crevice of a rockery, their bodies pressed closely together. Xiao Wanqing's thoughts began to drift uncontrollably…
Jiang Hao smirked teasingly, "Or perhaps you want me to make our relationship public?"
Xiao Wanqing was instantly dumbfounded.
All her wild imaginings were just her own delusions… Why did she have such deep feelings for him? She raised her hand and slapped her cheek lightly; this was it—she must be losing her mind!
Jiang Hao tugged at her to leave, but Xiao Wanqing glanced back at Gu Qinian lying on the ground. "What about him…" The weather was getting colder; lying there for too long might make him catch a chill.
Jiang Hao snorted dismissively. "Who cares about his life or death!"
Xiao Wanqing was furious; no one had ever dared to speak to her like that! It was utterly outrageous! But still… Damn it, his attitude seemed to work!
Although her father knew she acted recklessly, he had never caught her in the act. If he found out about their affair, he would surely force them into marriage. She absolutely did not want to spend her life with him… That would be like seeking her own demise!
Xiao Wanqing felt for the first time how difficult life in the palace could be. Even when her mother passed away and she was no longer favored, she could still roam freely, stirring up chaos in the harem.

She was utterly fed up; did he not tire of making such declarations every day? He would boast during the day and act on it at night without considering where they were. He even brazenly ordered Hua Ying to guard the door while he acted recklessly with her.

Xiao Wanqing pushed Jiang Hao into the inner room, exasperated. "You've gotten us into trouble!"
Causing a scene outside the palace was one thing, but now they were inside.

Xiao Wanqing was taken aback. Was it finally her turn to be married off?
What about Jiang Hao? He said he would protect her, but if she were sent away for a marriage alliance, could he truly keep her safe? Would he come to her rescue?
She glanced toward the inner room, unable to see anyone through the layers of beaded curtains, receiving no response.
"Father, I..."
"Who is inside?" The Emperor's suspicious nature flared up as he shouted, summoning the guards outside. He glanced at Xiao Wanqing, whose face was filled with panic, and then turned his gaze to Jiang Hao as he stepped out.
His sharp eyes swept over Jiang Hao. "Are you the man rumored about in the palace?"
Rumors in the palace? What was going on? Xiao Wanqing looked at Hua Ying for help, who could only nod helplessly. In the palace, only Xiao Wanqing still naively believed she could keep everything hidden...
Jiang Hao remained calm and replied with dignity, "Indeed."
"Preposterous!"
The Emperor shouted angrily, "If such disgraceful deeds spread, it will surely tarnish the reputation of our Han Kingdom! Guards, drag this scoundrel out and castrate him!"
Truly, one cannot commit wicked acts without facing retribution!
Xiao Wanqing thought to herself, yet she found herself kneeling down to plead for mercy. Although Jiang Hao's actions were outrageous, they were not heinous enough to warrant such a punishment. "Father, you cannot castrate him..."

Xiao Wanqing panicked and blurted out, "I am already carrying his child!"
Kneeling in the room, she awaited the Emperor's decision while Jiang Hao stood beside her with a playful grin, even pretending to gently caress her belly.
Xiao Wanqing swatted his hand away in annoyance. "It's all your fault! My innocence is completely lost!" How could she be so foolish as to concoct such an absurd lie for this man?
"You lost your innocence long ago," Jiang Hao teased with a smile. "As for the child, it will come in due time."
He was determined to ensure that she would bear his offspring. Her willingness to risk everything to save him indicated that she must have some feelings for him after all.
