I walked hand in hand with Lu Zixuan along the way home. The setting sun stretched our shadows long, intertwining them together, just like our lives would be intertwined from now on.
“Xiaoli,” Lu Zixuan suddenly stopped, turned around, and looked at me seriously. “From now on, let’s go to school and come home together every day, okay?”
I gazed into his gentle eyes, and a sweet smile involuntarily spread across my face. “Sure.” I playfully added, “But you’re not allowed to tease me anymore! Otherwise…” I deliberately paused, wanting to see his reaction.
He pretended to shrink back in fear. “Otherwise what? How will my Xiaoli punish me?”
I feigned deep thought, then grinned mischievously. “Hmm… I haven’t figured it out yet. I’ll let you know when I do!”
He chuckled and pinched my cheek. “As you command, my Xiaoli!”
Ever since we confirmed our relationship, Lu Zixuan had become even more considerate. Every morning, he would show up at my doorstep on time, holding my favorite breakfast, and then we would ride our bikes to school together.
“Lu Zixuan, why did you buy Soy Milk and Fried Dough Sticks again today? I’m tired of eating that,” I complained while munching on the fried dough stick.
“Huh? Didn’t you say yesterday that it was your favorite?” He looked so aggrieved. “I even got up early to queue for it…”
Seeing his pitiful expression made me unable to hold back my laughter. “Just kidding! Silly!”
Only then did his frown turn into a smile. “Xiaoli, you’ve become mischievous!”
"Alright, alright, I won't tease you anymore. But," I said with a glint in my eye, "I want to eat the breakfast you make tomorrow!"
"Sure, tomorrow morning, I'll cook for you and prepare a heartfelt breakfast!"
The next morning, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Lu Zixuan had indeed made a sumptuous breakfast—fried eggs, bacon, toast, and a cup of hot milk, all beautifully plated and aromatic.
"Wow! Lu Zixuan, you're amazing!" I couldn't help but exclaim. "I didn't expect you to have such skills!"
He raised his eyebrows proudly. "Of course! I specially learned this for my Xiaoli! So, how's my cooking? Not bad, right?"
I gave him a thumbs up. "It's fantastic!"
He chuckled and ruffled my hair.
As I enjoyed the breakfast he had made with his own hands, my heart felt warm and sweet.
I often thought that if there were angels, they would surely be like Lu Zixuan—silently guarding me and providing meticulous care and attention.
We studied together, played together, and shared each other's joys and sorrows. Between us, there were no more misunderstandings or barriers, only abundant love and trust.
During winter, I knitted a scarf by hand and gifted it to Lu Zixuan.
"Lu Zixuan, Happy New Year!" I shyly handed him the scarf and said, "This is... I knitted it myself. I hope... I hope you like it."
He took the scarf, his fingertips gently brushing over the soft yarn, his eyes sparkling with emotion and joy. " Xiaoli, thank you. This is the best New Year gift I've ever received." He carefully wrapped the scarf around his neck. "It's so warm! Even better looking than the ones my mom knits!"
I playfully punched him lightly. "Hey! Don't say my mom's knitting isn't nice!"
He laughed and pulled me into his embrace. " Xiaoli, thank you. I love you."
From childhood sweethearts to mutual affection, we experienced laughter and tears together, ultimately walking hand in hand into each other's lives, becoming each other's one and only.
I knew that the road ahead would be long, but as long as he was by my side, I feared nothing.
Because I knew he would always hold my hand, accompanying me through life's storms and sunshine, forever.
