Chapter Ten: Break Free and Transform
The morning sunlight streamed through the curtains of the hospital room, where Ruolan leaned against the headboard, quietly gazing out at the scenery. An IV needle was attached to her hand, her complexion still pale, but there was a hint of tranquility in her eyes.
The doctor entered the room, checked the data, and smiled slightly. "Miss Ruolan, the new medication is taking effect; your condition has improved a bit. However, further treatment will still require time and patience."
"Thank you," Ruolan nodded slightly, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
After the doctor left, Gu Changting entered with breakfast, placing the tray on the small table beside her bed with practiced ease. He spoke softly, "The doctor said you're doing well today. Eat more to replenish your strength."
Ruolan watched him busying himself and felt a mix of emotions. "Changting, you don't have to do this. I..."
"Don't say that," Gu Changting interrupted gently but firmly. "You just need to focus on getting better; I'll handle everything else."
---
Meanwhile, in the Gu Group office, Lin Wanran paced anxiously. Manager Wang stood nearby, his expression grim. "Gu Changting has already started investigating us. If we don't act soon, it will be too late."
Lin Wanran gritted her teeth. "He's currently focused entirely on Su Ruolan; this is our opportunity."
Manager Wang scoffed. "You're too naive. Gu Changting isn't easy to deal with; he's already begun laying plans within the company—we just haven't noticed yet."
Before he could finish speaking, the office door swung open, and Gu Changting strode in, followed by several lawyers.
"Manager Wang, Miss Lin, it seems you are prepared to pay for your actions," his voice was icy, his gaze sharp as a knife.
Lin Wanran's face turned pale as she hurriedly explained, "Changting, listen to me! I'm doing this for the company— for you..."
"Enough," Gu Changting interrupted coldly. "I've already uncovered your dealings with Manager Wang; I won't give you any more chances."
Lin Wanran slumped into her chair while Manager Wang attempted to argue but was met with legal documents handed over by Gu Changting's legal team.
---
Back at the hospital, Gu Changting sat by Ruolan's bedside and said softly, "The issues with Wanran and Manager Wang have been resolved; the crisis facing the Gu Family has passed. Ruolan, you can rest easy now."
Ruolan paused for a moment before quietly asking, "Why did you go to such lengths?"
Gu Changting took her hand in his, his eyes filled with tenderness. "Because I don't want to lose you again. No matter what happens, you are the most important person to me."
Ruolan's eyes glistened with tears as she turned away, unwilling to let him see her emotion.
---
As time went on, Ruolan gradually regained some strength under the new medication's treatment. Although she had not fully recovered, she began learning to face the future.
One morning, Ruolan sat on the balcony of her hospital room, breathing in the fresh air. Gu Changting entered, holding a book in his hands.
"The sunlight is nice today; let's read together," he said, his tone relaxed and natural.
Ruolan nodded and took the book from him. The two sat quietly on the balcony, flipping through the pages.
---
Inside the room, Li Xiaoling brought in a small flower pot containing a newly sprouted green plant.
" Lanlan, this is for you," she said with a smile. "This plant is like you; as long as it is cared for with love, it will surely thrive."
Ruolan looked at the little green plant, warmth flooding her heart. She softly replied, "Thank you, Xiaoling, and thank you all for not giving up on me."
---
In the final scene, Ruolan stood in the hospital garden, sunlight streaming down on her face, her eyes reflecting an unprecedented determination. Gu Changting stood behind her, gently holding her hand.
"The road ahead may be difficult, but let's walk it together, shall we?" Gu Changting asked softly.
Ruolan turned to him and smiled gently. "Yes."
The sunlight bathed the garden, and the plants swayed in the breeze as if sending blessings for their future.
