Chapter Eleven: A New Threat
Gu Changting's footsteps were slow as he pushed open the hospital room door, finding Su Ruolan leaning against the headboard with a book in her hands. Sunlight streamed through the window, casting a warm glow on her pale face, creating a serene and beautiful scene.
"How are you feeling today?" he asked gently, placing a fresh breakfast on the table beside her.
Ruolan looked up at him, a faint smile gracing her lips. "Much better, thank you."
Yet, as he gazed at her smile, an unsettling feeling crept into Gu Changting's heart. He knew this tranquility was deceptive—the crisis facing the Gu Family was far from over, and Ruolan remained fragile.

A few days later, Gu Changting was urgently summoned back to the company. A sudden high-level meeting made him realize that the operations of the Gu Family were being subtly undermined by external forces.
"General Gu, several key investments have been abruptly withdrawn. There’s likely someone orchestrating this behind the scenes," the Chief Financial Officer said, handing him several documents with a grave expression. "The movements of funds from our partners suggest it could be Li Shudong."
"Li Shudong?" Gu Changting's gaze darkened as he scoffed. "It seems he has no intention of letting the Gu Family off the hook."
Li Shudong was an old rival from the time of the Gu Family's predecessors. Gu Changting understood that this man would not return without reason; someone must be aiding him in the shadows.

Meanwhile, Ruolan was tidying up her belongings in the hospital room when her phone suddenly vibrated. She opened an anonymous email, and its contents sent her heart plummeting.
The email contained photos of her and Gu Changting together, along with a forged audio recording suggesting she was the instigator of the Gu Family's troubles.
"You do not belong to the Gu Family; leaving is your only choice." The last sentence hit her like a hammer, striking deep into her heart.
Ruolan stared at the screen, her fingers trembling slightly. Her first instinct was to hide this from Gu Changting; she didn’t want to distract him with her troubles.

However, Gu Changting soon sensed something was off. When he returned to the hospital, he noticed Ruolan's demeanor was noticeably anxious. He approached her and sat down. "Ruolan, what’s going on?"
"Nothing," Ruolan replied, looking down with a hint of evasiveness in her tone.
Gu Changting fixed his gaze on her, his voice firm. "Do you think you can hide this from me? Your eyes already tell me the answer."
After a moment of hesitation, Ruolan finally handed him her phone. As he looked at the screen, his expression darkened instantly. "This is Li Shudong's doing; his goal is to destroy us."
"But I..." Ruolan began to speak but was interrupted by Gu Changting. "There are no 'buts.' I will handle this matter; you just need to focus on getting better."

Days later, Gu Changting began investigating the source of the email while launching a counterattack against Li Shudong's movements. He no longer concealed his intentions but instead issued a public statement declaring his stance: "I will pursue any false accusations against the Gu Family and Ruolan to the fullest extent."
This strong attitude quickly quelled the external attacks, but he knew it was merely a facade.
Ruolan sat in the hospital room, gazing out at the sky through the window. Her hand gently caressed a small green plant, her heart filled with complex emotions.
“Lanlan, what are you thinking about?” Li Xiaoling entered, carrying a fresh basket of fruit.
“Xiaoling, I don’t know if I’m a burden to Gu Changting,” Ruolan said softly, a hint of confusion in her eyes.
“A burden?” Li Xiaoling raised an eyebrow. “Do you know? Because of you, he has become more determined than ever. Without you, he might not have had the motivation to face these issues.”
Ruolan was momentarily taken aback, warmth blossoming in her heart for the first time.
A few days later, Gu Changting returned to the hospital room and handed Ruolan a document. “The mastermind behind this turmoil, besides Li Shudong, is Lin Wanran.”
Ruolan's expression froze at the mention of that name. She wanted to speak but found herself at a loss for words.
“Ruolan, remember, you are not alone,” Gu Changting said, looking deeply into her eyes. “We will face this together.”
Ruolan's heart trembled slightly; tears welled up in her eyes as she nodded gently. “Okay.”
