Chapter Twelve: Storms Reignite
Outside the Gu Family Building, a throng of reporters surged, blocking the entrance completely. Cameras flashed incessantly, and sharp questions followed one after another.
“General Gu, can you confirm whether the allegations against Ms. Su Ruolan are true? Is she indeed the catalyst for the Gu Family crisis?”
“What is the Gu Family’s response to the evidence circulating online?”
“Will this lead to the termination of Ms. Su Ruolan’s relationship with the Gu Family?”
Gu Changting stood by the tall windows, his gaze coldly fixed on the chaos below. In his hands were several documents detailing the media's recent onslaught of reports—bold headlines filled with malice.
“The Dual Life of the Gu Young Mistress: From Bankrupt Woman to Mastermind of a Noble Family’s Predicament.”
“Financial Scandals and Family Conflicts: How Su Ruolan Pushed the Gu Family to the Abyss.”
“Li Shudong has indeed struck hard,” he murmured under his breath, a deeper chill settling in his eyes.

In the hospital room, Ruolan clutched her phone tightly, the screen displaying those glaring reports and “evidence.” Falsified bank statements and fabricated financial contracts all pointed to her as the root of the Gu Family crisis.
Taking a deep breath, her fingers trembled as she clicked on a video. The footage showed her “intimately conversing” with Manager Wang, with suggestive lighting and deliberately edited clips oozing misleading implications.
“How could this happen…” she whispered to herself, tears streaming uncontrollably down her cheeks.
Li Xiaoling pushed open the door and rushed over upon seeing her state, grasping her hand tightly. “Lanlan, don’t look at that! It’s all fake; don’t let them affect you.”
“But everyone believes it,” Ruolan lifted her head, pain evident in her eyes. “These matters had nothing to do with the Gu Family, but now because of me, they’re in such deep trouble…”
“It’s not your fault!” Li Xiaoling insisted firmly. “Someone is clearly framing you; you cannot back down.”
Ruolan slowly shook her head. “Xiaoling, if I hold a press conference to clarify everything and announce my departure from the Gu Family… perhaps it could quell this storm.”

A few hours later, Gu Changting returned to the hospital room just in time to hear Ruolan speaking to Li Xiaoling. His brow furrowed as he approached her. “What did you just say? A press conference? Leaving?”
Ruolan looked at him, her expression calm yet resolute. “Changting, I don’t want to drag you down any further. The Gu Family cannot be put in this position because of me.”
“What are you thinking?” Gu Changting’s voice was low, his gaze icy. “All this so-called evidence is fake; I will never allow you to bear responsibility for someone else’s crimes.”
“But public opinion doesn’t care about the truth!” Ruolan exclaimed, standing up in agitation. “Changting, the Gu Family is everything to you; I can’t just watch it be destroyed!”
“Ruolan!” Gu Changting interrupted her with unprecedented determination in his tone. “You are my wife; I will protect the future of the Gu Family. No one has the right to impose any stain upon you.”
Meanwhile, Li Shudong sat in his office, coldly laughing as he watched the reports on the screen. He picked up a glass of red wine, his tone filled with pride. "Gu Changting, aren't you always so high and mighty? I can't wait to see how you handle this crisis."
"Manager Li, some of the senior executives at the Gu family are already starting to waver. As long as we apply more pressure, they'll soon be on our side," his assistant reported in a low voice.
Li Shudong nodded, a cold smirk curling at the corners of his mouth. "Good. Let's stoke the flames and make sure the Gu family falls apart completely."

In the high-level conference room of the Gu family, some shareholders and executives began to voice their doubts.
"General Gu, this crisis is indeed related to Ms. Su Ruolan. The company cannot bear all the public pressure for one person," one shareholder stated.
"Yes, General Gu, we need to consider the future of the Gu family. Perhaps we should temporarily sever ties with her," another added.
Gu Changting scanned the room coldly, his voice low yet powerful. "If you think the Gu family will bow down because of these slanders, then you don't deserve to sit here any longer."
The entire conference room fell silent; Gu Changting's stance was indisputable. He then instructed, "From now on, initiate an internal investigation. Anyone colluding with Li Shudong will not be spared."

That night, Ruolan sat alone on the balcony, shivering in the cold wind. Li Xiaoling approached with a cup of hot tea and draped a coat over her shoulders.
"Lanlan, don’t overthink it. Changting is doing everything he can to protect you."
"I know, but what can I do for him?" Ruolan's voice was barely audible. "All I do is drag him down; I can't do anything else."
"You are not a burden." Li Xiaoling held her hand, her voice gentle yet firm. "Lanlan, you are his motivation to face everything. If you give up, how can he keep going?"
Ruolan remained silent for a long time before finally nodding gently. "I will try my best not to worry him anymore."

The next day, Gu Changting issued a public statement. In front of the cameras, he declared, "I will pursue all false accusations against Su Ruolan to the end. The Gu family does not accept any form of threats and will not compromise with those behind the scenes."
His resolute stance eased public opinion slightly, but Li Shudong's actions had not ceased. Gu Changting knew that the real battle was just beginning.
