Rao Jie looked at him in confusion, unsure of what he was doing.
Long Yong added, "This kid still likes to be a teacher and teach, but he doesn't like the rigid teaching methods of formal schools. So he plans to officially establish an after-school tutoring center, although right now it’s just a small tutoring class."
He Dong smiled and said, "I’ve done this kind of thing during summer breaks before, so I’m quite familiar with it. This time, I’m not just going to lose interest after three minutes."
Long Yong chuckled, "Yeah, I can vouch for that."
Rao Jie watched them, their words swirling in her mind as she recalled all her previous thoughts, gradually becoming pensive.
After He Dong finished speaking, he went to the restroom.
Long Yong looked at the dazed Rao Jie and asked, "Is something wrong?"
Rao Jie snapped back to reality and smiled, "It's nothing; it will all be fine."
That evening when she got home, Rao Jie had a serious talk with Wu Rong.
Her persistent questioning made Wu Rong unable to hide the truth any longer. She finally admitted, "The teacher's situation is indeed not good. He said he wants to see me one more time for a face-to-face conversation. I'm hesitating because I'm afraid that after I go back... I don’t want to be bound by those emotions or forced by the teacher’s last request. I know what he wants me to do, but I don’t want to go back to work there."
Rao Jie understood that Wu Rong had unresolved feelings about the betrayal from last time and the indifference of those around her, but…
"Do you really not want to go back to work? The working environment there should be the most comfortable for you," she said.
Wu Rong was momentarily speechless, staring blankly at Rao Jie.
"You’re hesitating," Rao Jie pointed out.
Wu Rong insisted, "What I'm hesitating about is whether I should formally meet with the teacher again, not whether I want to go back to work there. And besides… don’t you also not want me to go back?"
Rao Jie felt a twist in her heart; although she had never explicitly stated it, Wu Rong had sensed it from her hints.
Rao Jie didn’t want him to return because she feared that their distance would only grow greater. She was terrified that if Wu Rong went back even once, he would become entangled there and wouldn’t want to return.
She was even more afraid that after going back, he would decide not to come back and gradually forget about her, ending up with Nina instead.
But she also knew that this unresolved feeling was like a knife hanging over her neck, threatening to drop at any moment.
Things needed resolution; Wu Rong’s current state clearly showed he wasn’t firm in his thoughts—he was simply avoiding them.
Rao Jie closed her eyes and suppressed the discomfort in her heart as she said, "Just go back for a visit; meet him once. No matter what happens or what decisions you make afterward, it doesn’t matter. But if you don’t go back and miss seeing your teacher one last time, you will regret it."
After saying this, she stopped persuading him and left Wu Rong alone to think.
A day passed, and Wu Rong still hadn’t made a decision. Rao Jie didn’t understand what he was hesitating about, but her greatest fear was that his hesitation was somehow related to her.
For instance, he might be afraid that if he returned, he would gradually stop loving her. In moments like this, Rao Jie knew she had to be resolute and push him away; otherwise, this unresolved tension would linger between them forever.
The turning point came the following evening when Wu Rong received a phone call from a foreign country. It was from his teacher’s wife. The hospital had sent a critical condition notice regarding his teacher. This was the final push that urged Wu Rong to move forward.
