Rao Jie furrowed her brows, feeling somewhat powerless.
Wu Rong said, “I want to nurture your growth. Isn’t that an advantage of being older than you? Otherwise, what advantage do I have to be by your side?”
Rao Jie was left speechless.
Wu Rong spoke earnestly; he truly meant what he said.
Suddenly, Rao Jie felt a mix of amusement and frustration. Was she the one proposing to Wu Rong, or was it the other way around?
Seeing her silent, Wu Rong gritted his teeth and said, “If you still want to move out, I don’t understand your reasons. But if you really want to do that…”
Rao Jie froze and looked up at Wu Rong with some anticipation.
Wu Rong suddenly smiled and said, “Alright, I’ll give you two options. You can move out, but only if you first get a marriage certificate with me. Once I ensure that you belong to me, if you still want to move out, that’s fine. Otherwise… you’ll just stay here with me! That’s the only option I can accept. I’ve already compromised; now it’s your turn to choose.”
Rao Jie was at a loss for words. “How am I supposed to choose? Wu Rong, don’t you think you’re being a bit unreasonable?”
Wu Rong chuckled and replied, “I’m unreasonable? Is this the first time you’ve realized that?”
Rao Jie was once again left speechless.
“I’ve laid out the path for you; whether you walk it or not is up to you. But don’t think about any other ways to resist; it won’t work. As for the school, I’ll talk to Ye Ming. I’ll find a reason to prevent you from living there. If you want to rent a place, wherever you choose, I’ll outbid you. Let’s see if you have anywhere to stay.”
Rao Jie was both angry and amused; it seemed moving out was no longer the issue at hand. The conversation had completely shifted focus—Wu Rong was clearly trying to ‘imprison’ her.
“You’re being so childish. Even if we’re apart a little, it won’t make a difference. We’ll still see each other, still go on dates… whatever you want to do, I’ll go along with it.”
Wu Rong slowly leaned down, his voice tinged with vulnerability and weakness; he knew this was what Rao Jie couldn’t resist.
“It’s different now. If I can’t hold onto you, I’m scared. You’ve frightened me this time; I don’t care about the reasons—I’m just scared. I can’t live without you anymore. So either you enter my Household Registration Book or stay at my place without leaving.”
After saying this, Wu Rong began gently kissing Rao Jie’s face, his body pressing softly against hers.
Rao Jie realized that no matter what she said, it wouldn’t make sense anymore; they were back at square one.
Faced with such determination from Wu Rong, Rao Jie truly felt powerless to resist.
Wu Rong kissed her more passionately but suddenly heard Rao Jie gasp in pain as he realized he had been too rough and hurt her.
In the end, Wu Rong could only tend to Rao Jie’s wounds before holding her tightly as they fell asleep together, feeling both aggrieved and frustrated.
Since he received the news, he had rushed back without a moment's pause, not even adjusting to the time difference. Now, despite his exhaustion from the anger that had surged within him, he felt a sense of relief as he held Rao Jie close, knowing she was right there in his arms and wouldn’t slip away.
He didn’t exaggerate when speaking to Rao Jie, nor was it merely an emotional outburst. This time away had truly left a deep impression on him.
In the past, even if Rao Jie wasn’t in the same room as him but just next door, he could still sleep soundly knowing she was nearby. However, ever since he went to England, even after returning to his original apartment—a place he had known for years, even more familiar than Yun Cheng’s apartment—he found it difficult to fall asleep.
