Prologue 0

Six years ago today, I lost my best brother, Mo Han. On the anniversary of Mo Han's death, He Yun's eyes were filled with resentment towards me; she could not forgive me for choosing to abandon Mo Han in that fateful decision. Today, six years later, He Yun finally spoke the words of forgiveness, and it seemed our relationship had taken a new turn. I poured everything I had into trying to make amends for my past mistakes, hoping to earn He Yun's genuine affection. However, just when I thought we could start anew, He Yun looked at me with cold indifference. 0

"Did you really think I forgave you that day?" 0

"No! My revenge only began from that day!" 0

"Lu Chen! I want you to suffer more than death!" 0

Faced with He Yun's gaze filled with hatred, I felt lost and helpless. Because I... was truly on the brink of death. 0

Chapter One 0

Six years ago today, I will never forget. 0

That day was the anniversary of my best brother, Mo Han's death. 0

And today is also the day He Yun began her revenge against me. 0

I knew she had never forgiven me. 0

Even though six years ago, under her desperate pleas, I chose to save the company and abandon Mo Han. 0

Even though at Mo Han's grave, she held me and said she understood and did not blame me. 0

But deep down, I knew there was always a thorn in her heart. 0

A thorn deeply embedded within her that could not be removed. 0

This thorn kept her distant and indifferent towards me for the following six years. 0

And now, she had finally begun to strike back. 0

I stood quietly in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the familiar figure in the garden below. 0

He Yun was dressed in a flowing red dress, like a burning flame, standing out vividly among the crowd. 0

She was laughing and chatting with a young man, Xu Feng, a rising star in the entertainment industry. 0

Their intimate gestures pierced my heart like sharp knives. 0

I tightly gripped the medical report in my hand, my knuckles turning pale from the pressure. 0

The doctor's words echoed in my ears: "Mr. Lu, I regret to inform you that you have late-stage gastric cancer." 0

Late-stage gastric cancer—how ironic. 0

I, Lu Chen, a formidable figure in the business world, someone admired and feared by many, was about to be defeated by a mere cancer. 0

I let out a bitter laugh, feeling as if life were just a dream. 0

Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath, trying to calm the turmoil within me. 0

I told myself not to panic, not to lose control. 0

I still had time; I still had a chance. 0

I wanted to use this last bit of time to make up for my shortcomings towards He Yun. I wanted her to fall in love with me again. 0

But how easy could that be? 0

Six years was enough to turn a heart cold. 0

Moreover, she now had Xu Feng by her side. 0

That young, handsome, vibrant star could offer He Yun what I, a dying man, could not. 0

I watched as He Yun and Xu Feng grew closer, their interactions becoming increasingly intimate, and my heart sank deeper. 0

"Manager Lu, are you alright?" Assistant Xiao Wang's voice suddenly came from behind me. 0

I snapped back to reality and turned around to see Xiao Wang looking at me with concern etched on his face. 0

"I'm fine," I replied tersely, shoving the health report into my pocket. 0

"You don't look well. Are you feeling unwell?" Xiao Wang asked with genuine worry. 0

"It's just an old problem," I brushed him off. 0

I didn't want anyone to know about my illness, at least not now. 0

"Manager Lu, today is Manager Mo's memorial day. Do you want to visit the cemetery?" Xiao Wang asked cautiously. 0

I paused for a moment in silence before nodding. 0

"Prepare the car," I said, my voice a bit hoarse. 0

"Understood, Manager Lu," Xiao Wang replied and turned to leave. 0

I looked out the window again, but He Yun and Xu Feng had vanished from sight. 0

A hollow feeling settled in my chest, as if something important was drifting away from me. 0

I arrived at Mo Han's grave and stood quietly before it. 0

The gravestone bore a photo of Mo Han, still young and smiling brightly, as if nothing had ever changed. 0

But I knew that everything had irrevocably shifted. 0

"I'm sorry, Mo Han," I whispered, my voice choking with emotion. 0

"If I had chosen you back then, would everything be different?" 0

"Would you still be alive? Would He Yun not hate me?" 0

"But I didn't choose you. I chose the company. I chose profit." 0

"I'm a selfish person. I deserve to die." 0

Tears streamed down my cheeks, falling onto the cold gravestone. 0

I crouched down, gently caressing Mo Han's photo, as if I could still feel his warmth. 0

"Mo Han, I'm so tired." 0

"I'm really so tired." 0

"I can barely hold on any longer." 0

"Do you think I should go and keep you company?" 0

Just then, a sound of footsteps interrupted my thoughts. 0

I looked up to see He Yun standing not far away, quietly watching me. 0

She wore a long black dress, her face pale and her expression complex. 0

"What are you doing here?" I asked coldly. 0

"Just came to see my good friend," He Yun replied lightly. 0

Her voice was soft, yet it cut through me like a sharp knife, piercing my heart. 0

"How can you still have the face to see him?" I shouted in anger. 0

"Why not?" He Yun retorted. 0

"If it weren't for you, how could he have died?" I shouted, my emotions running high. 0

"If it weren't for me, it would have been you who died," He Yun said, looking at me and enunciating each word. 0

"Do you think you're so noble?" 0

"Do you think that because you saved the company and everyone else, you're something special?" 0

"Lu Chen, you're nothing but a selfish hypocrite!" 0

He Yun's words struck me like heavy blows to my heart. 0

I opened my mouth but couldn't say anything. 0

"Did you come here just to say that?" I asked, my voice low. 0

"Of course not," He Yun scoffed. 0

"I came to tell you that our game has officially begun." 0

"What do you mean?" I frowned and asked. 0

"You'll find out soon enough," He Yun said before turning to leave. 0

"Wait." I called out to her. 0

"He Yun, can we start over?" 0

He Yun paused, her back to me, not turning around. 0

"Start over?" 0

"Lu Chen, do you think there's still a chance for us?" 0

"Forget it." 0

"I will never forgive you." 0

"I hate you." 0

"I will make your life a living hell." 0

"This is what you owe me, what you owe Mo Han." 0

Her resolute words pierced my heart like daggers. 0

"He Yun!" I tried to call her back, to explain something in the end. 0

"Oh, right." She suddenly turned back, a strange smile curling at the corners of her mouth. 0

"I forgot to tell you, Xu Feng and I are getting married." 0

"The wedding is next month. You're welcome to attend." 0

With that, He Yun turned and walked away without looking back. 0

I was left standing there, dazed and alone. 0

Married? 0

She was going to marry Xu Feng? 0

The news hit me like a thunderbolt, shattering me into pieces. 0

No, it can't be! 0

I can't believe it! 0

How could she do this to me? 0

I will never allow it! 0

I turned sharply and ran in the direction that He Yun had left. 0

"He Yun! Stop right there!" 0

"He Yun!" 0

"He Yun..." 0

I sprinted desperately, but I still couldn't catch up to her. 0

I stood in the empty cemetery, gasping for breath, feeling as if the world was spinning around me. 0

A sharp pain shot through my stomach, and I doubled over in agony, collapsing to the ground. 0

Dizziness washed over me, and everything went dark as I lost consciousness completely. 0

All that remained was the sound of the wind rustling through the leaves, whispering in my ears. 0

Everything is over; it's all finished, isn't it? 0
