Lin Aishi returned to the hall, where Zi Dingqian stepped forward and wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her into the dance floor.
Lin Aishi tried to break free, but she couldn't match his strength. "What do you want now?" she asked, staring directly into his eyes.
"Your man just came to warn me," Zi Dingqian replied, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "What do you think I should do?"
"You..."
"You should know that I won't let any man around you go unpunished," Zi Dingqian said casually, then leaned down to place a light kiss on her forehead. His cold smile sent a shiver down Lin Aishi's spine.
Over the past three years, every man who got close to her or treated her well had been driven away by Zi Dingqian through various means. She was tired of witnessing this cycle.
After the party ended, Lin Aishi got into An Ruochen's car, which stopped outside her apartment building.
Lin Aishi sighed heavily. "An Ruochen, isn't it time to end this game of romance?"
An Ruochen raised an eyebrow with a grin. "Oh? Have you agreed to marry me?"
Ignoring his self-importance, Lin Aishi shot back, "Don't tell me you don't know about my relationship with Zi Dingqian. He won't let you off; he won't spare any man around me."
"And then?" An Ruochen blinked innocently. "What does that matter?"
Lin Aishi couldn't understand what he was thinking.
“Shishi, I will never leave you, absolutely,” An Ruochen said firmly, but Lin Aishi felt a twinge of disbelief.
Perhaps it was only when that day arrived that he would truly leave.
Lin Aishi never expected that day to come so soon. As An Ruochen appeared before her more frequently, she began to feel uneasy. Before long, all his business engagements were put on hold.
“Do you understand the seriousness of the situation?” Lin Aishi said, exasperated by his naivety. “You have no work! You’ve been blacklisted and hidden away; soon, people will forget you!”
“No work just means a vacation. Shishi, why don’t you come with me on a holiday?”
Lin Aishi pushed his hand away and replied coldly, “An Ruochen, I don’t want to be involved with someone so immature.”
The more innocent he seemed, the guiltier she felt. “Let’s not meet for a while.”
She pushed An Ruochen out the door and sat quietly in her room, nearly overwhelmed by guilt. Why wouldn’t Zi Dingqian ever let her go?
The phone rang, and she heard the man’s deep voice: “Lin Aishi.”
“Zi Dingqian,” she sighed heavily, suddenly feeling exhausted. “What will it take for you to let go?”
“Let go?” Zi Dingqian scoffed. “That day will never come.”
Lin Aishi felt suffocated by the weight of his words as Zi Dingqian domineeringly declared, “I’ve kept you out in the open for too long; it’s time for you to come back.”
Since the day she sold herself to him four years ago, she had lost her freedom, hadn't she?
Lin Aishi suddenly felt despair.
Four years ago, it was also a phone call; he bought her, and she sold herself to bear his Heir.
At that time, she was overwhelmed with financial troubles, and in her most desperate moment, he offered her hope: "I can give you money, but you must help me have my Heir."
This cruel exchange plunged her into the depths of despair.
She took a day to consider it and agreed to his request when he called. She abandoned her First Love, who was still struggling on the hospital bed, and lived in that "cage" for a year.
They pretended to live as a couple; he was gentle and considerate towards her during her pregnancy. She almost believed everything was real. However, after the child was born, all the warmth shattered.
