Soon, the horse came to a stop at the foot of the temple.
Feng Lan noticed Liu Ruoruo lagging behind and frowned slightly. Without a word, he bent down and picked her up, using his lightness skill to soar up the stone steps like a swift eagle.
The two of them landed steadily outside the temple, just in time to see the Abbot holding a knife, preparing to shave the head of Feng Chen, who was kneeling on the ground.
"Spare him!" Liu Ruoruo exclaimed anxiously.
As soon as she shouted, she realized her choice of words was wrong. Embarrassed, she stuck out her tongue and turned to see Feng Lan's face twitching, clearly startled by her abrupt phrasing.
Feng Chen, who was kneeling and waiting for his head to be shaved, turned pale as soon as he saw Liu Ruoruo. Without saying a word, he stood up and attempted to leave.
"Chen, don’t go." Seeing this, Liu Ruoruo hurriedly rushed over and reached out to block Feng Chen, instinctively grabbing his hand.
However, he coldly shook her off and said in an icy tone, "Amitabha, Feng Chen has already seen through the worldly affairs and no longer clings to this mortal realm. Please leave."
Seen through worldly affairs?
Liu Ruoruo felt a surge of anger at his words and raised her hand to slap him.
For him, she had endured countless hardships, braving fire and water, even going so far as to find someone to stab her just to save him. Yet he remained unmoved, as if his heart were made of stone.
Just as her hand was about to strike him, it was intercepted by Feng Lan midway.
Liu Ruoruo's eyes widened in anger as she glared fiercely at Feng Lan, who, in contrast, wore a gentle expression. He turned to Feng Chen and said, "Second brother, for the sake of your elder brother, let the prince have one more chance."
Feng Chen glanced between Feng Lan and Liu Ruoruo, keenly sensing the subtle change in their dynamic.
Although their interaction still carried a hint of tension, it was no longer as cold and distant as before; instead, there was an unspoken intimacy that lingered between them.
Feng Chen thought to himself that this was for the best; he would no longer have any worries and wouldn’t need to be concerned about his brother anymore.
Thus, he softly said, "Brother, I wish you both happiness. Abbot, please continue."
Upon hearing that he wanted to proceed with the shaving ceremony, Liu Ruoruo felt a surge of panic. She forcefully shook off Feng Lan's hand and, in her extreme anxiety, shouted, "Feng Chen, I really like you!"
Liu Ruoruo clearly saw Feng Chen's body tremble at her words. However, he remained kneeling on the ground, his tone calm yet resolute as he urged the Abbot to proceed.
As a lock of dark hair slowly fell from Feng Chen's shoulder to the ground, Liu Ruoruo felt a rush of desperation and shouted at Feng Lan, "Let go of me!"
Feng Lan lowered his head and whispered a few words in her ear. Liu Ruoruo's eyes widened suddenly, a flicker of hesitation crossing her face before she quickly steeled herself.
Suddenly, in the quiet hall, Liu Ruoruo's body softened as she bent forward slowly. One hand pressed tightly against her abdomen, pain etched across her features as she cried out in distress, "It hurts... it hurts..."
At first, Feng Chen thought she was just putting on an act and continued to ignore her.
Unexpectedly, Feng Lan's voice interjected, "Could it be that she's experiencing a miscarriage?"
Feng Chen instinctively turned his head upon hearing the words, only to see Liu Ruoruo securely held in Feng Lan's arms.
Just as Feng Lan was about to step over the threshold, he suddenly stopped, turned to Feng Chen, and said, "Second Brother, if the prince has a miscarriage, as the father of the child, you surely won't have a peaceful life even if you become a monk, right?"
With Liu Ruoruo, who was pretending to be faint, cradled in his arms, Feng Lan strode out of the temple.
Feng Chen stood frozen in place, overwhelmed by the powerful impact of those words. His mind involuntarily drifted back to that night when he had been drugged.
In truth, ever since Liu Ruoruo confessed her feelings for him, his mind had been in chaos.
Now, with Murong Xue personally coming after him while pregnant, she was very likely to miscarry.
Thinking of this, Feng Chen felt a surge of anxiety. He could no longer pay attention to anything else. He abruptly pushed aside the Abbot and stood up, rushing out the door in pursuit.
