More than half an hour later, Captain Chen returned, looking weary from his travels.
"Captain Chen, how did it go?"
"I think we can investigate the direction of single-parent families. For instance, Wang is also from a single-parent family. I believe we should check his house!" Father Li said eagerly.
"Single-parent families..." Captain Chen frowned slightly, not offering much commentary. He simply said, "I'll keep that in mind."
"Now, let me tell you something." Captain Chen turned and wrote down several children's names on the whiteboard.
"Wei Hao, Li Jun, Xue Yungui, Ma Zhaoqiang."
"According to the information we have so far, Wei Hao got involved in this kidnapping due to his uncle's financial issues, but he managed to escape afterward."
"He escaped?" Father Li couldn't help but interject.
"Where did he go? Why didn't he come home?"
"Because the kidnapping took place at Ma Zhaoqiang's house; he ran to Ma Zhaoqiang's place," Captain Chen glanced at me.
"But there's no one at my house!" I quickly explained.
"No, there is someone. Your ex-wife is at your house looking for something," Captain Chen looked at me with a gaze that seemed to see right through me.
I fell silent. I knew what my ex-wife was looking for—a gold necklace she had wanted to take when we divorced but ended up forgetting.
"What about the other kids?" Mother Xue asked anxiously.
"Right, what about my son?" Father Li chimed in.
"If Wei Hao could escape, it means the kids should be fine. As for the other two..." Captain Chen glanced at Father Li and Mother Xue before speaking solemnly, "They haven't been found yet."
"But Ma Zhaoqiang should also not be at home."
"Not at home?" I was taken aback. "Where did he go?"
"I don't know," captain Chen shook his head.
"Did you just say my Ex-Wife was looking for something at my house?" I asked, puzzled.
"Yes, I got the keys back," I explained.
"Why did you take the keys back?" Father Li asked with a hint of curiosity.
"She said she liked that necklace and forgot to take it," I replied casually.
"Then why did you two get divorced?" Father Li pressed on.
"Someone was pursuing her, so we divorced," I glanced at Father Li, who awkwardly chuckled.
"What can you tell from these names?" captain Chen asked.
"They're all kids," Father Li answered.
"These kids all play the same game and know each other," captain Chen said.
"And in this game, each of them has spent fifty thousand," he added.
"Fifty thousand?" I was taken aback. "My monthly salary is only three thousand."
"My monthly salary is just two thousand," Mother Xue whispered.
"Do you give your kids that much pocket money?" captain Chen inquired.
"No," the three of us replied in unison.
"Someone must have funded them. Wei Hao's family is incredibly wealthy. If they kidnapped a child, it would mean a lot of money," Captain Chen said slowly.
"Impossible!" Father Li stood up, agitated. "My son would never do something illegal!"
"My son would never do that either!" I added.
"Is it possible that Wei Hao went straight to Ma Zhaoqiang's house after leaving his uncle's, and then played games with Li Jun and Xue Yungui? They got into an argument over the game, and things escalated into a real kidnapping," Captain Chen suggested.
"Then why did they cut off my son's finger?" Mother Xue cried.
"If it was for ransom, they shouldn't have harmed the hostage!" Father Li frowned.
"Not necessarily," Captain Chen shook his head.
Suddenly, Captain Chen's phone rang.
"What video?" he asked, puzzled.
"I don't know; it was just discovered," the Young Police Officer replied.
"Alright, let's take a look," Captain Chen said.
