captain Chen asked us about our departure time, and I answered truthfully. At that moment, a young police officer rushed in.
" captain Chen, the bag containing five hundred thousand is missing! And a severed hand was found in the trash can!"
captain Chen's expression changed immediately. He ordered the young officer to check the location of the tracker. Soon, the officer reported back.
" captain Chen, the tracker was sent to the landfill."
captain Chen's face turned ashen. He slammed his hand on the table and glared at me.
"Take him to the interrogation room and wait!"
I was once again locked in the interrogation room, with captain Chen watching me coldly.
"Ma Qiang, you better pray that those missing children are found. Otherwise, you'll regret it!"
I sighed.
" captain Chen, I hope you can find those missing children too."
The evening was truly beautiful, with the sunset painting half the sky red. A gentle breeze brushed against my face, warm and moist. I rode my electric bike, humming a tune, ready to pick up my son from school. It was his birthday that day, and his mother had bought him a mysterious gift while I planned to take him out for his favorite barbecue.
A smile spread across my face as I enjoyed the comfort brought by the dusk. However, when I saw that child punching and kicking Ma Zhaoqiang, my good mood vanished in an instant.
I stopped my bike and shouted, "Stop it!"
That brat glanced at me and then continued kicking Ma Zhaoqiang.
"Who the hell are you telling to stop?"
He was half a head taller than me, dressed in a blue and white school uniform, looking about fifteen or sixteen years old.
I rushed over and slapped him right across the face.
"Didn't you hear me telling you to stop?"
His face instantly swelled up.
I turned around and helped Ma Zhaoqiang up; he had his hands cradling his head, a look of pain etched on his face.
"Zhaoqiang, are you okay?"
Ma Zhaoqiang shook his head, and I felt a pang of sympathy for him.
"Why didn't you fight back?"
I asked sharply.
Ma Zhaoqiang glanced at me; there was a glimmer in his eyes, but it was fleeting.
He lowered his head again.
"He's Wei Hao."
How could I not know that little brat's name? I had seen him more than once. He was the only son of the wealthy Wei Yunqing, spoiled and arrogant since childhood.
"So what if he's Wei Hao? Does that mean he can bully people at will?"
I glared at Wei Hao, who was tall and strong, much more muscular than I was.
But at that moment, I wasn't afraid of him.
I took Ma Zhaoqiang's hand and led him home.
That night, Ma Zhaoqiang was excited, and so was I.
I never expected that by standing up for him, I would earn such a joyful look from my son.
However, I also didn't foresee that my act of bravery that night would mark the beginning of nightmares to come.
The next day at work, my direct supervisor was waiting for me at the office door.
He wore a sullen expression and told me to pack my things and leave.
I was baffled; I had taken the previous night off to celebrate my son's birthday, and now I was being fired?
"Manager, why am I being dismissed?"
The manager wrote the character "Wei" in my palm and sighed heavily.
"How did you get involved with someone like that?"
I had no idea who he was referring to, nor did I care to find out.
At that moment, I was unaware that this "Wei" was connected to the wealthy tycoon Wei Yunqing and his son Wei Hao.
After losing my job, I discovered that no company wanted to hire me.
After all, I was in my forties, and they preferred to recruit younger candidates.
So, I chose to deliver takeout instead.
