Lu Fan began investigating the history of the building. He searched through archives for old newspapers and relevant documents, finally making a new discovery. A few years ago, this building was at the center of an unresolved cult case. He found an old newspaper with the headline "Mysterious Cult Conducts Rituals in Residential Building, Residents Mysteriously Disappear." Next to it was a blurry photograph that faintly showed several figures in robes standing in front of the building. The newspaper also included statements from witnesses: "I heard deep chanting in the hallway at midnight; those people were wearing strange clothes, as if they were performing some kind of ritual." All of this made Lu Fan feel increasingly uneasy. The cult had operated here, and there were reports of strange sounds and ritualistic behavior. It was said that several residents had participated in those activities, but they all vanished without a trace. 0

Among the residents, many had vague and unclear pasts. Lu Fan found several old newspapers that reported on cult activities, mentioning the address of this building. When he laid out these materials before us, I couldn't help but feel a chill, as if the long-silenced fears were slowly awakening. 0

"These residents are likely victims of some significant event," I said to Lu Fan. "Their behavior and reactions, especially their fear of the end of the hallway, align perfectly with symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Reaction (PTSD). Collective fear is particularly common among victims of cult incidents." 0

I recalled mother Li's mention of the fear at the end of the hallway, the Old Woman's strong avoidance of discussing it, and elder Liu's silence about the past. All these individuals seemed to be trying to forget that painful experience, yet their lives had clearly been irrevocably changed. Whenever they spoke about the end of the hallway, deep fear would flicker in their eyes, as if it represented some unspeakable darkness. 0

At the same time, I decided to try another approach to connect with the residents and gather more information. I managed to meet with mother Li again, attempting to understand her psychological state through a gentler and more indirect method. As a psychologist, I knew I couldn't directly touch upon her trauma; instead, she needed to gradually lower her defenses to open up. 0

" mother Li, how has Xiao Ming been lately?" I asked casually when I encountered her in the hallway. 0

mother Li's expression still bore signs of fatigue, but this time she did not reject my approach. She sighed and said, "Xiao Ming has been restless at night lately; he keeps saying he dreams someone is calling him." 0

"Maybe it's because this environment feels a bit strange to him," I replied gently, though I felt uneasy about her mention of "someone calling him." Such dreams could likely be a manifestation of some trauma; perhaps Xiao Ming was unknowingly affected by this place. 0

mother Li lowered her head, seemingly unwilling to continue on that topic. Knowing I couldn't push her too hard, I shifted the conversation to everyday matters concerning children. Gradually, mother Li relaxed; although she didn't provide much more information, I sensed her defenses were slowly diminishing. 0

Meanwhile, Lu Fan also made new progress on his end. He found some investigation reports from that time which mentioned that several residents were considered witnesses or even participants in the cult incident. Although the case ultimately went unresolved, it was clear that these individuals had suffered significant psychological trauma. This explained why their behaviors were so abnormal; it was as if everyone in the building was under some invisible force's control. 0
