"You don't understand! What you're doing will awaken the power of the cult! Those who have disappeared are because of people like you!" Mr. Chen's voice was almost a roar, his hands gripping Lu Fan's collar tightly, clearly consumed by fear. 0

I could see his hands trembling, the fear in his eyes transforming into despair and anger. I tried to pull Mr. Chen away, but his strength was greater than I had imagined, nearly pushing Lu Fan against the wall. Other residents gathered around; some attempted to pry Mr. Chen off, while many others looked at us with hostility. Their expressions were filled with terror and despair, as if we were committing an unforgivable act. 0

"Stop it! None of us want to go through those terrifying things again!" mother Li stood among the crowd, her voice trembling, her face as pale as paper, eyes filled with pleading. "If you awaken it, we are truly finished..." 0

A resident nearby nodded repeatedly, tears welling in their eyes. "I remember those nights when whispers echoed through the hallways... It felt like something was watching us from the darkness... What you're doing will only bring them back!" 0

Lu Fan broke free from Mr. Chen's grip, gasping for breath as he stepped back. I realized that the situation had spiraled out of control; we had to retreat. I grabbed Lu Fan's arm and whispered, "Lu Fan, let's get out of here. It's only going to get worse." 0

Lu Fan nodded silently, saying nothing more. We slowly backed away while the residents watched us like we were enemies until we exited the basement. Mr. Chen remained there, his eyes fixed on me as if warning me not to return. 0

Back home, my heart felt heavy. The talismans and tools in the basement, along with Mr. Chen and the other residents' reactions, made me acutely aware of the seriousness of the situation. This was not just about secrets from the past; it felt like a real threat still lingered, affecting everyone. 0

"The things we discovered indicate that this place really was a cult stronghold," I said to Lu Fan, my voice quivering slightly. "And I feel like this isn't over yet. Someone is maintaining this secret and even using it..." 0

Lu Fan's expression mirrored my concern as he sat at the table, silently staring at the old newspaper we had brought back from the basement, deep in thought. "It seems we really need to seek help from outside. Just the two of us might find it difficult to uncover such deeply hidden truths." 0

I nodded; although fear and unease filled my heart, I knew we couldn't give up now. The secrets within this building were more complex and terrifying than I had imagined, and the residents' reactions only confirmed their deep-seated fears. Regardless of what happened, I had to uncover the truth—not just for ourselves but for those trapped by fear. 0

"Lu Fan, we need to contact the police or someone experienced for help." I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. "We've come this far; there's no turning back now." 0

Lu Fan looked at me and nodded, determination shining in his eyes. "That's right; no matter how dangerous it gets, we have to keep going." 0

I felt a surge of power deep within me. Despite the fear, there was also a determination that supported me. The darkness of this building had yet to be fully unveiled, and I had to confront it, to uncover the truth behind those whispers. 0
