Shen Zhengxin and Hui supported each other as they turned to head back into the house. At a glance, they appeared to have aged into frail old men. Yet Shen Zhengxin still had to hold on! The revenge for his son had not yet been fully realized. 0

Shen Jingyu could not completely understand his grandfather's feelings at that moment. He was unaware of the true circumstances surrounding his parent's death, which was the condition set by Shen Lao for him. He had returned with the hope of uncovering the truth one day. 0

As he drove, Shen Jingyu was unusually quiet, his body tense to a frightening degree. The sky outside had turned completely dark, and among the several grand gates they passed, only one villa was lit up. This place seemed to be a sparsely populated area of luxury. 0

Including just now, the only person attending to Shen Lao was Xi Xin. However, Su Xing thought about it and realized that the first unlit gate they passed on their way down might be Shen Jingyu's childhood home. 0

His emotions here were indeed unstable. Su Xing quietly placed her hand over his hand. Shen Jingyu held a plate in his left hand while clenching his right fist on his thigh. At the moment Su Xing covered his hand, he flipped his palm and tightly grasped hers. 0

His grip was strong enough to cause her a slight pain, but she had no intention of pulling away. It was a silent comfort. 0

"Do you still have vivid memories of your childhood?" Su Xing asked him when he suddenly stopped the car by the roadside. 0

After a moment of silence, Shen Jingyu slowly replied, "I actually remember everything. You should have guessed that the gate on the left side below my grandfather's villa is my former home, while the one on the right belongs to my second uncle, Shen Huai Min. Not far below is my aunt's house, but they are no longer in the city." 0

"All ties between us were severed after my parent passed away." 0

"It’s not that I didn’t want to talk about it; I truly wanted to bury that past completely." 0

He had once spent happy moments that were now forever lost. 0

Su Xing understood that he was also explaining all those past secrets he had kept from her. But she could truly empathize with him! Memories were precious; beautiful moments deserved to be remembered. 0

"A Yu, perhaps you can try to open your heart," she hoped he could be more open-minded and forgiving. 0

Su Xing too had experienced childhood loss, but in her memories, those beautiful years spent as a family of four felt invaluable. No matter when she recalled them, they always brought warmth. 0

If one were to ask why Shen Jingyu resisted thinking about the past, Su Xing knew some of the reasons behind it. After his parent’s death, his mother had practically vanished from existence as well. 0

Shen Jingyu smiled bitterly and said, "It’s alright; I’m no longer a child. In the days to come, if I can spend more time protecting you, that will be my greatest wish." 0

Su Xing frowned at his words; this man was starting to indulge in negativity again! Yet, she found herself buying into it the most. This time, she had a hunch that Shen Jingyu had not completely left the military and was still carrying out some special missions, which meant he was indeed facing numerous risks. 0

She just wanted to reassure him: as long as you are alive, I’m not pushing you away from my side, am I? Su Xingran instinctively began to care for his fragile spirit, one that seemed to lack the will to live. 0

Shen Jingyu raised an eyebrow silently, recalling memories that unexpectedly stirred something within him. Although he truly felt sadness over those memories, he had long since dulled certain emotions through the passage of time. Suddenly stopping here was both a reminder of past pains and an opportunity to sort through his feelings. However, if it could still be useful in his pursuit of winning her back, he wouldn’t mind bringing up those dark days now and then, allowing Su Xing to shine some light on him once more. The gloom would eventually dissipate little by little. 0

Su Xing instinctively sought a topic to chat about with the suddenly silent Shen Jingyu. He composed himself and drove onto the highway. “Aren’t you curious about what your grandfather said when he called me today?” she asked. 0

Shen Jingyu slightly shook his neck. “Not really.” 0

Su Xing looked at him suspiciously. Was he really that open-minded? 0

Shen Jingyu explained, “He was just trying to confuse you into self-doubt and wild thoughts, even making you consider leaving me. But he also mentioned that he hopes you’ll cooperate with me, which proves he knows I can’t be without you. So no matter what seeds he plants in your heart, as long as I remain steadfast, you won’t have a chance to escape my grasp.” 0

Shen Jingyu spoke with such conviction that it left Su Xing captivated by his commanding presence. However, her pride as a woman stirred within her, prompting her to retort defiantly, “Oh please, when have I ever been in your grasp?!” 0

“Right now!” Shen Jingyu replied playfully as he held her delicate hand and unexpectedly kissed it lightly near his lips. 0

Su Xing felt as if she might be too starved for affection; how could such a handsome man manage to drive with one hand while holding and kissing her with the other? It was simply romantic and heart-fluttering. 0

“Ahem. You came here so quickly; are we not at the company yet?” she asked. “Where did you get the news that your grandfather brought me along? You said you weren’t watching me?” 0

After her pink heart-shaped bubbles of affection faded away, she began to focus on the reality of the situation. 0

Shen Jingyu felt a moment of awkwardness. How could he admit that he was indeed watching her—more than just a little? 0

“Where don’t I have my eyes on you?! Even the doorman can report your movements with just a casual greeting! Besides, when the Shen family car enters the garage of Xing Yu Mansion, it reports my room number; how could I not know?” 0

“Oh,” Shen Jingyu smoothly deflected the conversation back to safety. 0

As for the company, Shen Jingyu had no plans to go tonight. 0

"What do you want to eat? You didn't have lunch, and it's quite late now. Let's just eat out. You can pick a place." 0

Was this their first date alone since his return? Although he felt a bit flustered and unprepared, Shen Jingyu was determined to consider it a date, and no one could stop him from going out with her. 0

But within two seconds: buzz buzz, ring ring ring. 0

Mu Beiming and Mu Beiyao, the sibling duo, each attacked a phone number, making it hard for this date not to be lively. They connected for a few seconds before simultaneously hanging up, exchanging glances and saying in unison, "Let's eat together." 0

Mu Beiming had some unofficial business to discuss with Shen Jingyu, while Mu Beiyao wanted to chat about some personal matters with Su Xing. 0

"Can we go to the hot pot restaurant that Beiyao and I often visit?" Su Xing asked Shen Jingyu, who naturally had no objections and would comply unconditionally. 0

They rushed back to the city from the northern suburbs, arriving a bit later than the Mu siblings. 0

The Seafood Hot Pot they chose had an excellent reputation, and Mu Beiyao practically had a reserved private room there. She and Su Xing were frequent visitors—seasoned patrons, really. The manager and the old waiter recognized them both, treating them with such respect that one might mistake them for the owners. 0

In the private room, Mu Beiyao happily ordered Su Xing's favorites. Meanwhile, Mu Beiming racked his brain trying to remember what Shen Jingyu liked to eat but couldn't come up with anything after a long pause. Did he seem like the kind of man who could take care of himself? 0

In any case, by the time they arrived, the table was nearly filled with dishes. 0

Mu Beiyao noticed it was Sunday and then looked at Su Xing's outfit, laughing as she asked, "Did you go on another blind date? You didn't bring him along this time, did you?!" 0

That would have been quite the scene—a large-scale battlefield! Oh dear, what a missed opportunity! 0
