Su Xing quietly got up and returned to the study, taking out a document bag and placing it in front of Shen Jingyu.
"It's all done. Just sign here, and it's effective. Xinghe Street is yours to deal with as you wish."
A wave of surprise washed over Shen Jingyu. Although he had never gambled on Su Xing's feelings for him, at this moment, he felt utterly satisfied.
"Can I exchange my whole life for this?" Shen Jingyu spoke of value.
Su Xing countered with a price: "You can trade it for ten billion. I need money for my brother's wedding!"
Shen Jingyu's romantic mood was instantly doused with cold water. Su Xing felt a bit embarrassed under his gaze and unconsciously touched his nose.
"Cough, don't act all innocent after taking advantage!"
Zhang Tianba chimed in, "I bet if I offered him a billion, he wouldn't refuse! Don't give me a chance to regret this!"
Shen Jingyu was indeed annoyed. He seemed to grit his teeth as he said, "I'll give you a billion; ninety-nine billion is for the bride price! For this lifetime, don't even think about those unscrupulous funds from others!"
"Wow! Shen, you're so wealthy. Is your money guaranteed to be clean?" Lu Xiangyi asked in surprise. Was Shen Jingyu wealthier than her family? Would her position as the rich heiress be at risk?
Shen Jingyu shot a deadly glare at Rong Xigu.
"His money better be clean; don’t ask random questions! If you want it, I can give it to you."
Lu Xiangyi turned to Rong Xigu in shock, "Where does a military officer like you get so much money? You can't possibly be corrupt enough to amass this much!"
Everyone except Rong Xigu and Lu Xiangyi laughed.
"The bride price? That's all earned by my own efforts! If you dare question it, you're done for!" Rong Xigu scanned Lu Xiangyi from head to toe.
This outfit was hidden in his own closet; if her clothes were torn, she must have rummaged through them herself. Should he destroy this piece tomorrow too? Would that erase even the beautiful memories?
Rong Xigu pondered that he needed to trick her into giving him the clothes when he got home and then find a safe place to store them.
Lu Xiangyi, however, had no such elaborate thoughts; she was still shocked by the words "bride price." She couldn't easily forgive him for leaving without a word back then, compounded by the pain of their breakup.
But confronting him directly was something she dared not do just yet; instead, she planned to find a way to provoke him later.
Meanwhile, under the table across from each other, the two exchanged loving glances while holding hands discreetly.
Mu Beiyao watched as everyone around her basked in the warmth of love, and she suddenly realized that she felt out of place.
"Alright, enough is enough! I can't stand you all anymore; I'm leaving! Tomorrow, you two beautiful women better show up at the office!"
She continued, "We need to discuss the annual meeting. This year our revenue has tripled, so let's celebrate! And you both better not miss it, understand?"
Su Xing sensed a hint of irritation from Mu Beiyao. After a moment of thought, she asked, "Are the founders bringing their families to the five-year anniversary meeting?"
"Are you trying to provoke me?" Mu Beiyao shot back, noticing that two-thirds of the women had partners while she felt pressured by their relationships.
"Hey! My brother is still single. Why don’t you come and be my sister-in-law?"
"Forget it! That picky guy from Lu Xiangyi's family? I never want to see him again in this lifetime!"
Lu Xiangyi raised an eyebrow. "When did you even meet my brother? You remember him that well? Who would believe that?"
Su Xing noticed a fleeting look of guilt on Mu Beiyao's face and couldn't help but laugh. "Well, stories have to get richer to be interesting, right?!"
Mu Beiyao was clearly flustered. "Su Xing, if you keep talking nonsense, just wait and see if I won’t hit you!"
At that moment, Shen Jingyu chimed in with a smirk. "You dare hit my wife? You must be tired of living!"
"Seriously! Tomorrow both of you better show up at the office! After I leave, if you dare gossip about me, just wait for it!"
Mu Beiyao pointed at the two women but was met with two piercing glares.
Heaven help her! She felt so unfortunate!
With that, Mu Beiyao turned and stormed out.
Su Xing wanted to get up and see her off but was held back by Shen Jingyu's arm around her waist.
Fortunately, the restaurant had an open layout, allowing them to see half of the door.
Su Xing chuckled as she stretched her neck. "As soon as you close that door behind you, we’re going to start discussing things!"
In women's gatherings, one either joins in or becomes the center of attention; you know what I mean.
Mu Beiyao was so furious that she slammed the door loudly!
How could she not know? Three women could put on quite a show; with just two of them, it was already enough!
If Lu Xiangyi and Su Xing had some sunflower seeds between them, they could easily talk about Mu Beiyao and Lu Xiangyi for hours—discussing every punctuation mark in between.
In fact, Su Xing did indeed gossip with Lu Xiangyi after Mu Beiyao left.
Once she was gone, Su Xing pulled Lu Xiangyi into her study for some private gossip.
As for Shen Jingyu and Rong Xigu, they had their own topics to discuss as well.
But while chatting, they also had to tidy up the dining table—one washing dishes while the other wiped down surfaces.
Their actions were as natural as if they had done it a thousand times before. Yet when one thought about it, both were leaders managing thousands of people and running internationally renowned businesses; yet here they were in a cozy little kitchen doing the simplest of tasks.
In the kitchen, Shen Jingyu washed dishes while Rong Xigu sliced fruit for a platter.
The exquisite presentation made Shen Jingyu unable to resist teasing him, "Don't you think you would be better suited as a nanny? A high-end one at that! Why on earth did you cut the apple like this?"
Xiang Yi, on the other hand, only refused to eat the apple shaped like a little rabbit. Rong Xigu was unusually meticulous in his preparations. He didn’t waste the leftover apple cores either, insisting that Shen Jingyu and he each eat one.
Then, this burly man, Rong Xigu, patiently peeled the white skin off the orange. Shen Jingyu couldn't help but twitch at the corners of his eyes; after all, his wife was quite down-to-earth! However, with one busy and the other watching, they didn’t lose sight of the main topic.
Zhang Tianba was researching artificial intelligence and had applied cloning technology. The Zhan family members always carried an air of malice in whatever they did. The technologies they applied were inherently dangerous. During the war on the Border, robot bombs had appeared that looked just like real ones. If it weren't for the vigilance of those under him, he might not have returned so quickly!
Shen Jingyu nodded solemnly, "Indeed, I was almost deceived by a fake Su Xing."
"Don't go spreading that around," he warned. "If the vinegar jar tips over, there will be trouble in the backyard!"
Shen Jingyu looked at him disdainfully, "Like your family? My family is reasonable! They trust me completely! What fake Su Xing? Do you have a dog outside? Or are you looking for someone like me?"
The voice of Su Xing seemed to carry a chill as it penetrated through. Shen Jingyu and Rong Xigu stiffened at the sound. Was this what they feared coming true?
Rong Xigu wondered why he almost couldn’t return. When asked, he replied, "Is it convenient to escape now?"
"Honestly confess," Lu Xiangyi came over directly and snatched the fruit from Rong Xigu's hand, showing off theatrically as she pointed her finger at him.
