Su Xing felt a sense of stability; the child in her womb was healthy, and for both her and her husband, this was the best news they could receive. Shen Jingyu finally had the chance to gaze at Su Xing's belly, his eyes filled with anticipation.
Su Xing was waiting for him to say something. Shen Jingyu opened his mouth, "You shouldn't say anything for the first three months; otherwise, it could be detrimental!"
"Are you joking?" Su Xing retorted. "Are you superstitious, or do you just not want my child?" She was getting irritated. After saying that, she turned and walked away, heading upstairs to see her newborn niece. As for the matter of children, she no longer expected to hear any comforting words from Shen Jingyu.
Shen Jingyu thought to himself, Did I say something wrong? Isn't this just an old saying? Isn't it better to be cautious? Watching Su Xing leave in a hurry, he quickly followed her.
At the entrance of the delivery room, He Xiaoqing suddenly noticed her daughter's expression wasn't quite right and leaned in nervously. "What's wrong?"
Then He Xiaoqing looked back at Shen Jingyu, who was hurriedly catching up. "Is something going on?"
"Nothing! Your son-in-law just doesn't know how to speak! I'm too lazy to deal with him!" Su Xing explained lightly. He Xiaoqing understood immediately; Shen Jingyu was overly concerned about Su Xing's health, even more than about their child.
From Su Xing's perspective as a pregnant mother, this situation was hard to accept, but her family was quite pleased.
He Xiaoqing playfully scolded her daughter, "You silly girl, don’t take your blessings for granted! Jingyu cares about you so much!"
"Keep an eye on your son-in-law; make sure he doesn’t run off!" Su Xing quipped, almost earning a playful slap on the back from He Xiaoqing. But considering she was carrying a child, the grandmother-to-be let it slide.
"Jingyu, you've worked hard! You don't have to indulge her too much; this girl is too stubborn!" He Xiaoqing defended her son-in-law again.
After all, it's said that mothers treat their sons-in-law well just to ensure they take care of their daughters. However, He Xiaoqing's attitude made Su Xing feel that she was definitely biased toward him.
Shen Jingyu smiled and said, "I'm not indulging her; I’m doing it willingly." Just like how Su Xing silently adapted to life with the Shen family without making a fuss—they were both considering each other.
As the group chatted, Su He anxiously awaited news and felt like she might burst from worry!
"Why hasn't she come out after three hours? Brother-in-law, can you find someone to ask?" Su He approached Shen Jingyu, feeling uneasy.
Before Shen Jingyu could respond, Su Xing spoke up, "We’ve hired the best doctors. What are you so anxious about? Asking won’t speed up the delivery, will it? No one has notified us yet, which means she’s still in there. You’re about to become a father; can’t you be a little more calm?"
Shen Jingyu seemed to understand this feeling well. He said, "I’ll send someone in to check."
If Su Xing were the one giving birth, he would definitely be more worried. If it took this long, he would choose to accompany her during labor. Although most people advised against it, Shen Jingyu already had plans in mind but couldn’t share them with Su Xing just yet.
Su He looked gratefully at Shen Jingyu. "Thank you! Brother-in-law!" Although he was older than Shen Jingyu, he was already in awe of this remarkable man. If given the chance, Su He would willingly bow down to him.
With a sense of urgency, Shen Jingyu took action. Soon after, a nurse entered. When she came out half an hour later, she was holding a small baby girl.
"Six pounds and six ounces! Congratulations, Mr. Su, on your precious daughter! Which family member will take her?"
The nurse was older and experienced; seeing Su He’s dazed expression, she decided to find another family member to hold the baby.
Su Xing was indeed excited but was also a pregnant woman herself. He Xiaoqing wouldn’t let her be the first to hold the baby. It was said that the first person to hold the child would influence its personality in the future. So, He Xiaoqing chose her own husband, Su Bokan!
Su Bokan never expected that they would let him—the one in a wheelchair—be the first to hold the baby. Even Du Gang, the grandfather, expressed his approval.
Since Su Bokan returned home, Du Gang’s attitude had undergone a complete turnaround. Once someone who never approached them, he had almost become a regular visitor at his daughter's home!
Those who knew might think he was concerned about his daughter’s health as she prepared for childbirth. However, the family understood the real reason behind his actions.
Su Bokan was someone with a reputation; he was well-known in the Su Family and had a name that carried weight!
Holding the soft bundle in his arms, Su Bokan smiled affectionately and suddenly turned to look at his daughter, Su Xing.
When she was little, Su Xing had been just as soft and delicate, making him feel awkward as a big man holding her.
Su Xing seemed to instantly understand her father's gaze. She stepped closer and placed her hand on his hand while looking at her niece. "Dad, does she look a bit like me? Is she cuter than I was?"
Su Bokan felt a deeper sense of responsibility for his daughter, as he always believed he owed something to Su Xing. As time passed, he learned from He Xiaoqing about Su Xing's struggles and efforts over the years—efforts that most men would find daunting. Yet, she persevered through it all.
This was something he, as a father, should have been supporting her with, providing a stable home for them. However, in front of everyone, including the in-laws, he simply replied to his daughter, "Of course children are more adorable than adults!"
He didn’t specify who was cuter or who deserved more attention; instead, he made a comparison between children and adults, which left no room for criticism from anyone.
Su Xing laughed heartily; her father was someone with principles! Everyone was focused on the child. Su He had already asked the nurse when Du Meng would be out and learned it would still take about twenty minutes. He resumed his vigil at the door, eagerly waiting.
In fact, he hadn’t really gotten a good look at the child yet! At that moment, Du Gang turned to Su Bokan and asked, "Brother Su, have you thought about what name you’ll give this little girl?"
Su Bokan replied, "I haven't really thought about naming her; that was something I did thirty-one years ago."
His daughter's eyes sparkled like bright stars when they named her Su Xing. As for his son, he took his mother's surname He and chose a name that sounded similar. He felt it was best not to interfere too much; after all, the child's grandfather had also inquired.
Just as Su Bokan felt awkward in the moment, He Xiaoqing stepped in to ease the tension: "We should listen to the parents' opinions! We can discuss it later when Meng Meng is out and resting."
Du Gang didn’t press further but seemed to soften at the sight of the next generation. "Let me hold her too! I’m your grandfather! Little one, you look quite like your mother."
After chatting with the still-closed-eyed baby for a few moments and feeling the softness of her cheeks, Du Gang finally let the nurse take the child away for other newborn procedures.
