I stared at the cold prompt on the System Interface: “ Virtuous Ability has reached 50%, Short-Term Analysis Ability can now be unlocked.”
At that moment, I found it somewhat absurd.
For the sake of this so-called “ Virtuous Ability,” I had played the role of a perfect saint today: helping interns with their questions, covering meal expenses for colleagues, and mediating a dispute between a delivery person and a security guard. Each act felt like a meticulously scripted scene, and I was merely the humble and diligent supporting character.
In my past self, such actions would have been utterly impossible. The words “saint” or “selfless” had never existed in my vocabulary.
But what about now?
I raised my hand to rub my temples, a bitter smile tugging at the corners of my mouth. “ Virtuous Ability ”? What an ironic term.
“Would the host like to use it immediately?” The system's mechanical voice abruptly interrupted my thoughts, its emotionless tone striking my eardrums like a hammer.
“Yes.” I nodded without hesitation, a glint of cold determination in my eyes. “Tell me, who sent that anonymous message.”
Blue light flickered as the System Interface began to calculate frantically. Numbers, codes, and symbols cascaded down like a waterfall, as if staging a silent war. Each pulse felt like an arrow pointing toward the truth. I held my breath, gripping the armrests of the chair tightly, my knuckles turning white from the pressure.
Moments later, the screen froze, revealing the answer.
“The sender is Su Qing.”
Just as I suspected!
A fire ignited in my chest, that anger nearly consuming me. I had long suspected it was her, but I hadn’t anticipated her audacity in threatening me so openly.
Su Qing, this seemingly elegant and composed woman, was a viper behind her facade. She always wore an impeccable mask, making it impossible to discern when she was smiling or when she was gritting her teeth in malice.
“System, can this message be used as evidence?” My voice was low and icy, each word squeezed out through clenched teeth.
"It cannot be used as direct legal evidence, but it can be corroborated through other means," the system replied, its logic so airtight that it left no room for rebuttal.
I took a deep breath, forcing my emotions down. Anger wouldn't solve anything; what I needed was a counterattack.

The next morning, I stood in front of the full-length mirror, adjusting my collar, my gaze sharp and composed. The reflection staring back at me was clad in a well-tailored suit, exuding an aura of sharpness and coldness. This was a crucial day—the company’s executive meeting, and Su Qing would also be in attendance.
Today's meeting would determine the allocation of several important projects, one of which was the key project I was responsible for. If I could defeat Su Qing in this meeting, it would not only thwart her plans but also further solidify my position. However, this meeting was not just a workplace competition; it was a test—I wanted to see how many cards she still had hidden and how far she was willing to go to protect herself.
As I pushed open the door to the conference room, a heavy atmosphere enveloped me. The long table was already filled with people, each expressionless yet brimming with latent intensity. An invisible tension hung in the air, like a string stretched to its breaking point.
My gaze swept across the room and quickly landed on Su Qing.
She sat at the opposite end of the long table, slightly turned as she chatted with the person beside her, her smile still elegant as if nothing had happened. That calm demeanor almost made one believe she was innocent. However, when she sensed my gaze, she swiftly turned to meet my eyes for just a second.
In that moment, a flicker of malice flashed in her eyes, sending a chill down my spine. But just as quickly, she resumed her flawlessly crafted facade, like a cunning fox that hides its tail just as the hunter raises his gun.
"Director Lin, please take a seat," the vice president hosting the meeting gestured for me to sit. His tone was flat yet carried an undeniable authority.
I nodded and took my seat to his right, placing my folder on the table before glancing around at the others. Most were engrossed in their documents, seemingly oblivious to the undercurrents of tension between us. But I knew they understood perfectly—today's meeting was not merely about project allocation; it was a silent power struggle.
As the meeting commenced, department heads reported their progress in turn. I remained silent until it was my turn to speak. When called upon, I presented my project plan and expected outcomes with concise and powerful language. My pace was steady yet firm; every word had been carefully chosen to leave no room for criticism.
When it came time for Su Qing to speak, she suddenly dropped a "bombshell."
"I have some questions regarding the project Director Lin is responsible for," she said with a slight smile. Her seemingly harmless words plunged the entire conference room into a brief silence.
All eyes were on her, some showing interest while others frowned. My heart tightened suddenly, but I maintained my composure on the surface, merely raising an eyebrow. "Oh? Does President Su have any questions?"
Su Qing feigned humility with a smile, then picked up the folder in her hand and said in a seemingly indifferent tone, "According to my investigation, there seem to be some discrepancies in the data for this project. If these figures cannot ensure accuracy, there may be risks in subsequent execution."
After speaking, she handed the document to the Vice President while casting a glance at the others. "For the sake of the company's interests, I believe it is necessary to re-examine this project."
With that one statement, she pointed her finger directly at me!
The atmosphere in the conference room instantly became tense, with everyone whispering among themselves. The Vice President began flipping through the document she had passed him, his brow slightly furrowed. He glanced at me as if waiting for my response.
"President Su's question is quite valid." A cold smile tugged at the corners of my mouth as I deliberately lowered my tone to convey a sense of nonchalance. "However, this data was provided by the company's data department and certified by a third-party auditing agency. If President Su doubts the professionalism of these authoritative institutions, I suggest you verify it personally."
As soon as I finished speaking, the room fell silent.
Su Qing's smile faltered for a moment but quickly returned to normal. "Since Director Lin says so, I naturally have no further comments. However, just to be safe, I still hope we can conduct a comprehensive review."
"Of course." I nodded slightly, my tone still calm. "However, this may delay the project's progress. I wonder if President Su is willing to bear all consequences that may arise from this?"
As soon as I finished speaking, a crack finally appeared in her expression.
I simply stared at her coldly, saying nothing. This battle had only just begun.
