Since Leon witnessed Alice and Oliver's heartfelt performance at the singing competition, a fire of jealousy ignited within him, burning fiercely.
He could not tolerate the increasingly close relationship between Alice and Oliver and was determined to take action to regain Alice's attention.
One morning, Leon rose early and meticulously groomed himself.
He donned a well-tailored black coat that accentuated his tall frame. Standing before the mirror, he carefully styled his hair, striving to present his best self.
Afterward, he made his way to the village square, a place where Alice often appeared.
At that moment, Alice was standing with Oliver in the square, discussing an upcoming Traditional Activity in the village.
Leon strode toward them with confidence, a smile on his face. "Alice, Oliver, good morning." His voice was deep and resonant.
Alice looked at Leon with slight surprise but responded politely, "Good morning, Leon."
Oliver cast a wary glance at Leon and subtly shifted his position as if to protect Alice.
Leon seemed oblivious to Oliver's hostility and continued, "Alice, I heard the village is hosting an event. I'm quite interested in these traditions; could you tell me more about it?" He moved closer to Alice, his gaze fixed intently on her.
Alice hesitated, glancing between Oliver and Leon, unsure of how to respond.
Noticing her uncertainty, Oliver quickly interjected, "Alice, don't we have other preparations to attend to? We might not have time to explain everything to Leon."
However, Leon was undeterred. With a smile, he replied, "That's alright, Oliver. You go ahead with your tasks; I'm sure Alice would be happy to share with me, right, Alice?" His eyes sparkled with anticipation as if challenging Oliver.
Alice, feeling helpless, could only nod in agreement. Although Oliver was dissatisfied, he refrained from saying anything further and simply reminded Alice to stay safe before turning to leave.
In the following days, Leon stayed close to Alice, attentively listening as she explained the details of the activities. He frequently asked questions, demonstrating a keen interest in these traditions. Alice gradually found herself moved by Leon's earnestness, forgetting the initial awkwardness.
However, Oliver was not willing to give up so easily. He began to invite Alice to join him more often for various tasks, such as gathering herbs in the forest or helping villagers repair their homes. He hoped that through these activities, Alice would become more reliant on him.
One day, Oliver took Alice deep into the forest, where a rare patch of medicinal herbs thrived.
“Alice, look! The herbs here are very effective for treating certain ailments. Let’s gather some to take back,” Oliver said as he began collecting them.
Alice busied herself alongside him, focusing intently on finding the herbs and unaware that Leon had quietly followed them.
Seeing Alice and Oliver chatting and laughing while gathering herbs in the forest stirred jealousy within Leon once again. He deliberately made some noise to catch their attention.
“Leon, what are you doing here?” Alice asked in surprise.
Leon smiled and replied, “I was taking a walk in the forest and didn’t expect to run into you two. It looks like you’ve had quite a haul.” With that, he approached Alice, trying to offer his assistance.
However, Oliver stepped in front of Leon and coldly said, “We don’t need your help here. You should just go.”
Leon stood his ground and looked Oliver in the eye. “Oliver, I just want to help Alice. Why do you have to be so petty?”
The gazes of the two men met in the air, and the atmosphere instantly became tense.
Seeing this, Alice hurriedly stepped forward to mediate, "Alright, stop arguing. We're here to gather herbs, not to fight."
Under Alice's persuasion, the two temporarily ceased their quarrel. However, in the following moments, Leon and Oliver continued to engage in subtle battles, refusing to yield to one another.
Both tried to showcase their strengths in front of Alice, hoping to win her favor.
Alice felt quite troubled by this competition. She had different feelings for both Leon and Oliver and was unsure how to choose between them.
She could only choose to avoid the situation, trying to minimize her time alone with either of them.
However, Leon and Oliver had no intention of giving up.
Their rivalry grew increasingly intense; a silent war over love was quietly unfolding.
And Alice became the center of this conflict.
She had no idea what impact this competition would have on her or how she would ultimately decide.
But she was clear that her life had already undergone a tremendous change because of these two men.
