Leon and Theodore hurried back to the territory of the Theodore Family. As they stepped into the familiar estate, the lively bustle of the past had vanished, replaced by an oppressive and tense atmosphere. The family members wore grave expressions, their footsteps hurried, as if shrouded by an invisible gloom.
As soon as Leon and Theodore appeared, the butler rushed over. Seeing the disheveled state of the two, a flicker of surprise and concern crossed his face. "Young Master, you have finally returned! Lord Leon, what happened to you?"
Theodore waved his hand wearily and said, "Let's not worry about that for now. What is the current situation of the family?"
The butler sighed, worry etched on his face. "Ever since you two went missing, the family has been receiving various threats and warnings. Our business has faced numerous obstacles, and many partners have withdrawn their investments."
Leon and Theodore exchanged a glance, their hearts growing heavier. They understood that what they had endured in the castle was merely the tip of the iceberg in this conspiracy. To uncover the truth completely, they decided to investigate within the family for clues that might be related to the plot.
In the following days, Leon and Theodore visited every important member of the family, inquiring in detail about any unusual occurrences during their absence. However, most people only knew that the family was facing a significant crisis but were unaware of the conspiracy behind it.
One day, while searching through the family study, Leon stumbled upon a hidden letter. The contents shocked him; it explicitly stated that the Major Power colluding with the castle's owner was another noble family—the the Claudie Family —who had always appeared friendly with theirs.
"Theodore, you need to see this!" Leon hurriedly found Theodore with the letter in hand.
Theodore took the letter, his face turning pale instantly. "How could it be them? We have always considered them allies; why would they do this?"
Leon pondered for a moment before responding, "It’s likely for our family's territory and wealth. With the kingdom in turmoil and various forces stirring, the the Claudie Family must be looking to seize this opportunity to swallow us up and strengthen their own power."
To further confirm their suspicions, Leon and Theodore decided to take a risk and meet with a merchant who had close ties to the the Claudie Family. In a secluded little house, they met this merchant. Initially reluctant to divulge any information, he eventually spoke under Leon and Theodore's pressure.
"Yes, the the Claudie Family is indeed plotting against your family. They have bribed the owner of the castle and imprisoned you to leave your family leaderless and in chaos," he said, his voice trembling.
“What is their next plan?” Leon asked, his gaze fixed intently on the merchant, an undeniable authority radiating from him.
The merchant swallowed hard and replied, “They intend to launch a surprise attack soon, aiming to seize your family’s territory in one fell swoop.”
Upon hearing this news, both Leon and Theodore felt as if they had been struck by a heavy blow. They realized that their family was facing an unprecedented crisis, and the truth of this crisis was far more brutal than they had imagined.
Upon returning to the family estate, Leon and Theodore immediately summoned the core members of their family for an emergency meeting. During the meeting, they disclosed the truth they had learned. The room erupted in chaos; some were filled with rage while others displayed fear.
“We cannot sit idly by!” one elder exclaimed angrily. “We must rise up and defend our family!”
Leon nodded, determination shining in his eyes. “That’s right. We absolutely cannot allow the the Claudie Family ’s conspiracy to succeed. From now on, we will immediately begin preparations to strengthen our defenses and reach out to our allies to face this crisis together.”
Theodore looked at Leon with admiration. In the face of such a harsh reality, Leon exhibited remarkable calmness and responsibility. He knew that as long as Leon was there, there was still hope for their family.
In the days that followed, Leon and Theodore led the family members in a flurry of activity day and night. They reinforced the castle's defenses, trained soldiers, gathered supplies, and left no detail overlooked.
