In the days leading up to the final confrontation with the the Claudie Family, Leon and Theodore were enveloped in a tense atmosphere. Yet, even in such a high-pressure environment, their inner tenderness occasionally shone through, like warm beams of light illuminating everyone around them.
One day, while patrolling the camp, Leon noticed a young soldier sitting in a corner, silently shedding tears. He approached and gently asked, "What's wrong, young man?" The soldier looked up, his eyes filled with sadness and helplessness. "Sir, I miss home. I'm worried that after this war, I may never return."
Leon sat down beside the soldier and patted his shoulder gently. "I understand how you feel; missing home is only natural. But this battle is for the sake of protecting our homeland and our loved ones. As long as we work together, we will surely return safely."
His voice was deep and powerful, as if injecting the soldier with a dose of courage. "Now, tell me about your home."
The soldier slowly began to recount memories of his family—the hard work of his parents and the innocence of his younger sister. Leon listened quietly, a smile occasionally breaking across his face. "When the war is over, you can go home and give your family a big surprise. You can sit in the yard with your parents, sharing stories from the battlefield while watching your sister play and laugh beside you." As Leon painted this beautiful picture, the soldier's eyes gradually sparkled with hope.
Meanwhile, Theodore also displayed his gentle side without realizing it. During a negotiation with allies, the opposing side presented some harsh conditions that infuriated Theodore's aide, nearly leading to a conflict.
Theodore quickly intervened to stop his aide. He looked at the representatives from the other side and spoke in a calm yet firm tone. "I understand your concerns, but we are currently working towards a common goal. If we allow some differences in conditions to create gaps between us, it will benefit neither party. Let’s sit down and discuss this calmly." His words acted like a spring breeze, easing the previously tense atmosphere. In subsequent negotiations, he skillfully balanced both sides' interests and ultimately reached a cooperation agreement.
In his spare moments, Leon often thought of Alice and Oliver back in Maple Leaf Village. He would recall walking with Alice through Maple Leaf Forest, sunlight filtering through the maple leaves to cast dappled shadows upon them.
He also remembered fishing by the stream with Oliver; although they often caught nothing, their laughter echoed along the water's edge. These cherished memories allowed Leon to maintain a tender heart amidst the brutality of war.
Theodore had his own thoughts as well; he would think of the elders and children in their family who had always supported them silently. He understood that everything he did was for restoring peace to their family and allowing children to grow up in a tranquil environment.
During one rare moment of respite, Leon and Theodore sat by the campfire. Leon gazed at the starry sky and softly asked, "Theodore, when this war is over, what is the first thing you want to do?"
Theodore thought for a moment and smiled, saying, "I want to take the children of the family out for a picnic in the countryside, to let them experience the beauty of nature and temporarily forget the shadows cast by war. What about you?"
Leon slightly closed his eyes, a hint of a smile appearing at the corners of his mouth. "I want to return to Maple Leaf Village and spend some time living with Alice and Oliver. It holds my most precious memories and serves as a refuge for my soul."
The two exchanged smiles, and in that cold night, their gentle words felt like a warm flame, dispelling the fear and fatigue brought on by war.
In their hearts, tenderness was not a sign of weakness but rather a strength—a strength to hold onto their ideals in a cruel world.
They treated everyone around them with this tenderness, and because of it, they earned the loyalty of their soldiers, the trust of their allies, and a deeper bond between each other.
As they faced the impending final confrontation with the the Claudie Family, this tenderness would become their strongest support, empowering them to bravely confront every challenge ahead, fighting for the revival of their family and for that cherished sense of tenderness and beauty in their hearts.
