I never expected to run into Sun Yu in this unfamiliar city. Looking at the man before me, with his stubbled face, sunken eyes, and disheveled hair, I almost didn't recognize him.
"Wan'er, let me explain. That divorce agreement doesn't count!"
Sun Yu's voice was hoarse, his eyes bloodshot, and he looked utterly exhausted and anxious.
He grabbed my arm tightly.
"Come back with me. Let's live our lives properly, okay?"
I frowned.
"Sun Yu, you're hurting me."
It seemed he just realized it and quickly released his grip.
"I'm sorry, Wan'er. I... I didn't mean to."
"Just calm down for a moment."
I took a step back to maintain some distance from him.
"We're already divorced. From the moment you signed that paper, we have no relationship anymore."
"What do you mean we have no relationship? You can't just say it's over like that!"
Sun Yu was getting agitated, his voice rising several decibels.
"And besides, which couple doesn't argue? Do you really have to be so heartless?"
"Sun Yu, you're calling me heartless right now?"
"Do you remember how you treated me because of your childhood friend?"
I looked at him, speaking each word deliberately.
"That night, I was in excruciating pain from my stomach, and you just abandoned me on the street because of a message from Han Xue!"
"Do you know how desperate I felt at that moment?"
"Did you come to see me even once while I was in the hospital?"
"But what about Han Xue? She posts about your sweet relationship every day on social media, as if she’s afraid I wouldn’t know how 'lovey-dovey' you two are!"
"During all this time, have you ever cared to ask how I was?"
"Or did you only think to ask where I went after I returned?"
"Sun Yu, do you know? From that moment on, I had already completely given up on you."
I took a deep breath, trying hard to calm my emotions.
"Just go, don’t come looking for me again."
With that, I turned and walked away.
But Sun Yu suddenly chased after me from behind and grabbed my arm.
"Wan'er, you can't leave!"
"Is there someone else? Tell me who he is?!"
I stumbled slightly from his grip, nearly losing my balance.
"Sun Yu, let go of me!"
I was shaking with anger.
"If you keep this up, I’ll call the police!"
"Call the police? Go ahead! Do it!"
Instead of letting go, Sun Yu tightened his grip even more.
At that moment, a black Mercedes pulled up beside us.
The car door opened, and Gu Cheng stepped out.
"Wan'er, what's going on?"
It was Gu Cheng. We had come out today for what could be considered a date. A Ya had said her aunt was visiting, so we should go out and have fun without bothering her; she didn't want to eat dog food.
"It's nothing,"
I smiled at him.
"Shall we go?"
"Want to leave? Not so easy!"
Sun Yu, seeing that Gu Cheng and I were about to leave, suddenly became anxious.
"You have to clarify things today!"
With that, he reached out to grab Gu Cheng.
"Who do you think you are? Trying to steal my woman? Are you tired of living?"
"I'm Wan'er's boyfriend. And you,"
Gu Cheng looked Sun Yu up and down.
"A former husband still trying to cling on?"
Sun Yu froze for a moment, then jumped up like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.
"What nonsense are you talking about! Wan'er, tell him who I am to you!"
Looking at Sun Yu's frantic expression, I suddenly found it quite amusing.
"What he said is true,"
I said calmly.
"You are indeed my ex-husband."
"What... what did you say?"
Sun Yu stood frozen in place, as if struck by lightning.
"Oh, right, I forgot to tell you,"
I pointed to Gu Cheng.
"This is Gu Cheng, my boyfriend."
"We met while traveling. He loves freedom and enjoys exploring new places, and coincidentally, I do too."
"We have a lot in common, and I feel very happy being with him."
I linked my arm with Gu Cheng's and gave him a sweet smile.
"You... you two..."
Sun Yu pointed at Gu Cheng and me, speechless with anger.
"A Yu, what are you doing here?"
At that moment, a delicate voice came from behind.
Han Xue?
What is she doing here too?
This is getting lively.
"Xue'er? How... how did you come?"
Sun Yu rushed over to Han Xue as if she had seen a savior.
"I..."
Han Xue glanced at me and then at Gu Cheng, her eyes flickering.
"I came to have dinner with you."
She walked up to Sun Yu and affectionately linked her arm with his.
"Who is this...?"
Sun Yu scoffed.
"A shameless couple."
"Sun Yu, watch your words!"
Gu Cheng's expression darkened.
"Wan'er is my girlfriend, and I won't allow you to insult her like that!"
"Insult? I'm just stating the facts!"
Sun Yu held his head high.
"She has been sneaking around with other men behind my back and even divorced me. A woman like that is not..."
"Slap!"
Before Sun Yu could finish his sentence, I interrupted him with a sharp slap.
"Sun Yu, shut your mouth!"
I glared at him.
"What right do you have to speak about me?"
"Do you think I don't know about the dirty things you've done with Han Xue?"
"You two have been involved with each other for a long time, haven't you?"
"Han Xue, stop pretending."
I turned to Han Xue.
"Do you really think I can't see through your little schemes?"
"Aren't you just trying to break me and Sun Yu apart so you can take his place?"
"You... how dare you slander me!"
Han Xue's face turned a mix of pale and flushed at my words.
I let out a cold laugh.
"Should I expose all the shameless things you've done with my husband and let everyone judge you?"
"You..."
Han Xue was left speechless by my retort.
"Wan'er, let's go," Gu Cheng said as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
"Don't waste time with people like her."
"Okay."
I nodded and got into the car with Gu Cheng.
As the car started, I glanced through the rearview mirror and saw Sun Yu still standing in place.
He reached out, seemingly wanting to grab hold of me.
"Beep—"
Gu Cheng honked the horn, and the car sped away.
