Liao Dongfeng was momentarily stunned, his face turning pale with rage.
“Liao Dongfeng, your underlings can’t wait for you to die; you might as well come with me!” Xu Shen mocked, pulling out the Soul Hook once more.
Though the Soul Hook was broken, as long as Xu Shen was alive, it could be restored no matter how many times it was severed.
“Damn it, let’s kill the Ghost Messenger first!” Liao Dongfeng shouted in frustration, charging at Xu Shen alongside the Eagle Hook Nose Taoist, intent on eliminating him.
Mao Dayou turned to Xiao Rui and said, “Lord Ghost Messenger has ordered you to assist him in capturing that Eagle Hook Nose Taoist.”
“Yes, yes, yes!”
Xiao Rui had already been swayed by Mao Dayou; upon hearing his words, he quickly got to work.
Although the Eagle Hook Nose Taoist had skills in dealing with spirits and ghosts, he couldn’t withstand the onslaught of so many living opponents. In just a few moments, he was pinned to the ground by Liao Dongfeng’s underlings, unable to move.
“Only you left, Liao Dongfeng!”
Xu Shen swung the Soul Hook and caught Liao Dongfeng in one swift motion. Liao Dongfeng’s expression changed as he struggled desperately.
“Still trying to resist? Dream on!”
With a flick of the Soul Hook, Xu Shen bound Liao Dongfeng tightly. In his other hand, he summoned the Killing Stick and struck Liao Dongfeng fiercely.
“Ouch!”
Liao Dongfeng cried out in pain as he fell to the ground. After several more blows, his cries echoed through the air until he finally knelt down and begged for mercy.
“Mao Dayou!” Xu Shen called out.
“Here,” Mao Dayou responded immediately, stepping forward to take the Soul Hook from Xu Shen’s hands.
“Those ruffians can’t see me; tell them to leave. Just say I’ll remember their contributions.”
Xu Shen whispered his instructions.
“They’re not good people either; they want to conspire against us as well. Shouldn’t we deal with them too?”
Mao Dayou glanced at Xiao Rui, considering that slippery character who could betray even his own brother—he wasn’t any better than Liao Dongfeng.
“Good and evil will eventually be repaid; they just haven’t reached their time yet,” Xu Shen replied calmly.
"Yes."
Mao Dayou no longer tried to persuade Xu Shen and immediately dispersed Xiao Rui and his gang.
"Eagle Hook Nose Taoist, I need you to come with me to The Underworld!" Xu Shen chuckled, feeling quite pleased with himself.
"Lord Ghost Messenger, spare me! Let me go; I have treasures to offer!" The Eagle Hook Nose Taoist quickly begged Xu Shen for mercy.
"Spare you? On what grounds?"
Xu Shen summoned the Soul Hook once more, shaking it until it ensnared the soul of the Eagle Hook Nose Taoist.
Li Wen had followed an old Taoist for five years but couldn't resist the temptations of the mortal world. He descended the mountain to become a sorcerer and accidentally met Liao Dongfeng, who treated him well. The two became involved in wrongdoing together over the years.
During the incident when Liao Dongfeng killed Mao Dayou, Li Wen persuaded Liao Dongfeng to set a poison trap to eliminate the Ghost Messenger who had come to collect souls, and they trapped Mao Dayou in Nan Gong Cemetery to keep the Ghost Messenger from discovering his presence.
If it hadn't been for the recent disturbance in the nearby graveyard, which ruined Li Wen's plans, Mao Dayou would not have turned into a zombie and would not have been discovered by Xu Shen.
"Spare me! Spare me!"
Li Wen continued to plead for mercy from Xu Shen, but Xu Shen turned a deaf ear and subdued him.
However, he indeed possessed a treasure.
Xu Shen searched Li Wen's corpse and found a jar that emanated a spiritual aura, clearly not an ordinary item.
"I'll take you for questioning first!"
Xu Shen escorted Li Wen away from the Taoist temple and returned to The Underworld, bringing both Li Wen and Liao Dongfeng to Yama's Hall for their fate to be decided.
