Xu Shen smiled faintly and slipped into the men's restroom, reappearing after becoming invisible.
As he approached the large man from behind, a sudden surge of Huang Guang erupted from within him, darting quickly towards the cafeteria.
“Nowhere to run! Soul Hook!”
Xu Shen immediately summoned his Soul Hook and threw it at the fleeing Huang Guang. The hook latched onto it, and with a swift tug, Xu Shen pulled it down to the ground.
The Huang Guang gradually faded away, transforming into a hunched old man.
“ Hungry Ghost, this is where you went wrong—possessing someone else and indulging yourself.” Xu Shen scolded.
“I’m sorry, my lord!” Hungry Ghost immediately knelt on the ground, pleading for Xu Shen’s mercy.
Like many others, Hungry Ghost was unable to reincarnate due to his overwhelming obsession. Having never been full in life, his desire for food intensified after starving to death. Thus, when encountering gluttonous individuals, he couldn’t resist possessing them to experience the sensation of being full.
However, since he died of starvation, he had no concept of fullness; the possessed person would only continue eating without ever feeling satisfied until they eventually overindulged and perished.
“This time you’ve run into me, so I’ll let you off easy. But if I hadn’t intervened, that fat man would likely have died from overeating. Now I’m sentencing you to a month of hard labor in The Underworld.”
Xu Shen took out a token and shone it on the hungry ghost, causing him to vanish instantly.
The Underworld was undergoing significant development at this time and required a large amount of labor. Typically, when encountering wandering souls with some goodness left in them during task execution, they would be punished by being made to perform hard labor as a consequence for their actions.
“I’ve delayed long enough; now it’s time for me to reveal myself and grab some food!”
Xu Shen put away the token and Soul Hook, intending to return to the restroom when suddenly a hand landed on his shoulder.
“Xu Shen!”
“Huh?”
Xu Shen was taken aback for a moment before turning around to find it was his class monitor, Li Yingxue.
“Were you calling me?” Xu Shen asked cautiously.
“Yes!” Li Yingxue nodded decisively.
“You can see me?” Xu Shen asked again in disbelief.
“Ha!” Li Yingxue chuckled at Xu Shen’s words. “Are you still in your invisible state?”
“Uh, not exactly. Class monitor, may I ask why you’re looking for me...” Xu Shen quickly changed the subject.
Li Yingxue glanced at Xu Shen, suddenly feeling a bit shy as she turned her gaze away. "I have a request. Um, can you promise me something?"
"Of course, I'll do my best," Xu Shen nodded.
"Tonight, my roommates won't be back. Please, please come to my dorm for the night."
With her face flushed, Li Yingxue mustered up her courage to finish her sentence and then ran away immediately.
"Uh?"
Xu Shen was taken aback for a moment. Just as he was about to ask for clarification, he realized that Li Yingxue had already dashed off.
What a strange request to make!
