Lin Menghan stepped out of the kitchen and smiled at the message from Xu Dong. She quickly sent a reply, simply expressing her gratitude without adding anything more. 0

"Hey! Do you think I still have a chance?" Xu Dong was not ready to give up. 0

"I think it's unlikely! Your sister and Nancheng held hands yesterday! They’re clearly into each other, moving at lightning speed! She definitely has no feelings for you," Chen Yi bluntly stated, his words cutting deep. 0

"Wah wah wah, I've been heartbroken!" Yi Ge lamented, feeling hurt. 0

"Come on! You’ve only been pining for her for a day; that’s hardly a heartbreak!" Chen Yi's voice crackled through the phone, frustration evident. 0

"You have a girlfriend! You’re just talking big because it doesn’t hurt you! I’m really hurt here. How about you treat me to dinner to heal my wounded heart?" 0

"You just want me to pay for your meal, right? Just say it!" Xu Dong's intentions were immediately seen through. 0

"Oh come on, it’s not a big deal. You’ll definitely treat me, right?" 0

"Alright then! Let’s go get some skewers at the walking street tonight." Chen Yi shook his head but eventually relented. 0

He then sent Lin Menghan a quick message saying "No need to thank me," before continuing his chat with Xu Dong. 0

As evening fell, darkness gradually enveloped the sky, yet the afterglow of the sunset still filtered through the clouds, casting a golden hue over the earth and creating a serene atmosphere. 0

At this moment, the sunlight had lost its harshness, becoming soft and warm, as if soothing away the fatigue of the day. The temperature began to drop as the cool night air replaced the daytime heat. People enjoyed the comfortable breeze, no longer troubled by the scorching sun, allowing them to fully relish outdoor activities. 0

"Xu Nancheng, take Lin Menghan out for a stroll and let her get familiar with the surroundings," Xia Mei suggested as she glanced at the darkening sky. 0

"But be careful!" Xu Mingzhong quickly added from the side. 0

"Got it." Xu Nancheng replied and turned to Lin Menghan. "Hey Lin Menghan, do you want to go for a walk?" 0

"Ahh!" Her eyes sparkled with excitement; being cooped up at home had clearly worn her out. She was eager to see the beautiful scenery of nature. 0

Before Xu Nancheng could respond, Lin Menghan had already grabbed his hand and dashed out. 0

"Hey Lin Menghan, slow down! Be careful not to trip!" Xu Nancheng called out as he hurried after her. 0

They must have met before and had a good relationship; otherwise, they wouldn't be holding hands and hugging so easily upon their first meeting. It was just that he couldn't remember it—Xu Nancheng was certain of that. 0

However, being held by such a cute girl felt wonderful! There was a sense of happiness that enveloped him. 0

"Look at those two kids, they’ve become so close so quickly," Xia Mei remarked as she watched the two run out the door. 0

"Yeah, their hands are already linked. Maybe we won't have to worry about Xu Nancheng anymore," Xu Wenzhao said with a teasing smile. 0

"You, always so inappropriate!" Xia Mei shot a disapproving glance at Xu Mingzhong. 0

The two walked along, their eyes wandering around. 0

"Ah! Look at this! Look at that!" 0

"Let’s take a picture!" 0

Lin Menghan occasionally pulled out her phone to snap photos. 0

They made their way up a small hill, basking in the warm glow of the setting sun as they gazed at the hillside before them. 0

On the opposite side of the hill, wild grass grew thickly, but under the sun's harsh rays, it appeared somewhat wilted, drooping like a group of deflated balloons. 0

"Those grasses look so wilted. If only they could stay vibrant forever!" Lin Menghan said with a hint of disappointment. 0

All things must eventually move from growth to decay; it’s an unchanging rule of nature. Besides, they were just a bit wilted. After a rain shower, they would surely regain their vitality. 0

Objectively speaking, that was true. But what does a person think when they are nearing death? As she pondered this, tears began to fall from her eyes. 0

"Huh? Lin Menghan, what’s wrong?" Seeing the girl in front of him crying, Xu Nancheng grew concerned. "What did you mean by that?" 0

His tone shifted, becoming serious. 0

"It’s nothing! I just felt sad thinking about it," Lin Menghan quickly shook her head and wiped away her tears, realizing she had lost her composure. 0

"Lin Menghan, you’re so kind!" Xu Nancheng observed. 0

"Can you tell me?" Her voice trembled slightly. 0

"I guess they would be thinking about the people they love and not wanting to lose them," Xu Nancheng said as he gazed into the distance, feeling inexplicably heavy-hearted. 0

He didn’t know anything deeper; for him at that moment, his understanding was far from sufficient to answer such questions. 0

Hearing this made Lin Menghan's tears flow even more freely. 0

"Lin Menghan, what’s really going on?" Xu Nancheng hurriedly pulled out a tissue to help her wipe her tears. His movements were clumsy, but his concern was unmistakable. 0

"It's really nothing," she said, shaking her head. "I was just thinking about their desperate feelings, and it makes me feel uneasy." 0

"You are truly kind," Xu Nancheng thought as he looked at the girl in front of him, tears streaming down her face. His heart softened, and he wanted nothing more than to hold her tightly, but reason told him that it wouldn't be appropriate. 0

He shook his head, trying to clear his mind. No, no, that absolutely wouldn't do! What kind of situation would that create? 0

To distract himself, he suddenly remembered the Azaleas in this place. "Lin Menghan," he said, "did you know that every year around this time, the Azaleas bloom here? They are vibrant and beautiful. How about we come back together next year to see them?" 0

She lifted her head, her eyes glistening with tears as she looked at him. Then she nodded and said, "Yes! Let's come back together next year!" After saying this, she wiped her tears again, and her mood seemed to lighten a little. 0
