Listening to Lin Menghan's words, which felt like a vow, he quickly responded, "Yes! I don’t want to leave you either! Never!"
They gazed at each other and then kissed, lost in the moment for what felt like an eternity. Perhaps their hearts had moved the heavens; Xu Nancheng had gained weight! Lin Menghan had gained weight too! They both had!
Sitting in a milk tea shop, they talked about so much—about their time together in senior year of high school, their college days, and their hopes for the future together.
Eventually, they graduated from university. Xu Nancheng became a police officer, while Lin Menghan became a teacher. It was time to tie the knot. The date was August 15th, the day they had parted ways, but more importantly, it was also the day they first met!
Xu Dongchen was, of course, the best man.
"Please stand facing each other," the officiant said. "Now, place the wedding rings on each other's hands as a symbol of love and commitment." After the officiant finished speaking, they exchanged rings.
"Xu Nancheng, do you take Lin Menghan as your wife? Will you love her, respect her, and protect her in both good times and bad, for all eternity?"
"I do! I absolutely do!"
"Lin Menghan, do you take Xu Nancheng as your husband? Will you be his partner and share all of life's experiences with him, whether good or bad, remaining loyal to him forever?"
"I do! I absolutely do!"
As they spoke, tears of joy streamed down their faces.
That night, lying in bed together, Xu Nancheng held Lin Menghan tightly and whispered softly in her ear, "Lin Menghan, I love you so much!"
"I love you too, silly!" Lin Menghan gently caressed his cheek.
"From now on, you are my one and only Lin Menghan."
"You’re so silly! I have always been yours!"
Xu Nancheng chuckled as he leaned over her and kissed her lips.
Time passed, and soon Lin Menghan gave birth to a pair of twins—a boy and a girl.
"Xu Nancheng, what should we name the babies?" Lin Menghan asked from her hospital bed as she looked at him.
Xu Nancheng lovingly stroked her hair and thought for a moment. "I think the boy should take your surname—Lin Chen—and the girl should take mine—Xu Han. How does that sound?"
Lin Menghan burst into laughter. "Xu Nancheng, isn’t that just the title of the novel I wrote?"
"Yes, I think Lin Menghan has a beautiful name," he said, affectionately stroking her head and then gently tapping her forehead.
He teased her, "I didn't expect you to have our child's name figured out so early."
Lin Menghan blushed and smiled, a rosy hue spreading across her cheeks. "No way! Xu Nancheng, you're getting more annoying."
"Is that so?"
"Yes."
In April, years later, both of them had turned gray, and many things had changed. The only constant was their love for each other.
They supported each other as they made their way to the Azalea Sea, still sitting on that hillside.
Xu Nancheng gazed at Lin Menghan, even though her face was now marked by the passage of time. "Lin Menghan, I still want to hear you sing."
"Xu Nancheng, you're still like this!" she replied, looking back at him. Then her voice filled the air, and Xu Nancheng was once again entranced, just as he had been in the classroom long ago.
The rain fell all night,
My love spills over like the rainwater.
Leaves in the yard,
Stacked thick with my longing.
A few words of gossip
Cannot cool my passion.
You appear on every page of my poem.
