Two months later, my body had mostly healed, and I increasingly realized that perhaps soon I would part ways with Gu Yizhou.
One night, I could no longer hold back and asked, "Yizhou, once my injuries are completely healed, are we going to leave the mountain?"
Gu Yizhou was gently poking at the fire with a small stick while brewing medicine. Upon hearing my question, he turned his head to look at me.
He didn’t answer my question directly; instead, he softly asked, "Manqing, what are your plans after we leave the mountain?"
"First, I'll go take down Lou Guanhai."
Gu Yizhou smiled slightly and said, "Well, have you thought about finding a martial arts expert to help deal with Lou Guanhai? Someone like me? My skills are quite good; I can keep you safe. If you can't afford my fees, we can work something out."
I stared at him in astonishment.
This offer was beyond just a pie falling from the sky; it was like gold ingots raining down… My mind felt like it was about to explode. After a long pause, I finally managed to squeeze out a response: "Really? Why?"
Gu Yizhou replied, "Because you're so funny. I've laughed more with you than I have in the past twenty years combined. Feel here."
He placed my hand on his abdomen. "My abs have been worked out from all the laughter."
I rolled my eyes dramatically and retorted, "You must have had a pretty depressing life before!"
Gu Yizhou's reasoning left me somewhat speechless…
Though my words were sharp, my heart was actually blooming with joy.
To hire such an impressive bodyguard at such a low cost was a bargain; I would gladly entertain him, even if it meant performing monkey tricks.
Half a month later, at Xijiu Lake in Dali.
The lakeside was adorned with unknown flowering trees, their delicate red petals drifting onto the surface of the water, creating ripples that danced gently.
Lotus flowers stood gracefully in the lake, each layer of petals fully unfurling to their utmost; the Lotus Leaves rose high above the water, their slender veins supporting the large green disks. When the gentle breeze stirred them, they swayed enticingly from side to side.
I sat in a small boat with Gu Yizhou, hidden behind layers of Lotus Leaves.
Gu Yizhou wore a light blue outer garment, and his dark jade-colored hair was neatly tied up with a hairpin, contrasting beautifully with his snow-white complexion.
His eyes gazed quietly into the distance, and his slender fingers rested casually on his knees. He exuded an air of tranquility and composure, like bubbles rising in surging waves or clouds drifting leisurely across a blue sky.
In contrast, I appeared rather shabby—I had a Lotus Leaf turned upside down on my head for shade, holding another half Leaf to fan myself. My demeanor was sneaky and my eyes darted around, making it obvious that I was up to no good.
I anxiously scanned the distance and complained, “Why hasn’t Lou Guanhai arrived yet?”
“Don’t worry; the information is reliable,” he replied.
According to trustworthy sources, Lou Guanhai and Wang Shishi had been rowing out to the center of the lake to admire the lotus flowers every afternoon for the past few days.
Were they admiring the lotus? I suspected it was a pretense; they must be planning to engage in some inappropriate activities under the cover of the Lotus Leaf.
I intended to catch them off guard while they were being affectionate.
As I waited anxiously for my target to appear, Gu Yizhou remained relaxed, saying, "With such a beautiful view, let's not focus on those two. We might as well enjoy ourselves."
With that, he extended his delicately knuckled right hand and plucked a Lotus Pod from the lake.
His movements were graceful and fluid, making him appear like a handsome figure stepping out of an ink painting, so strikingly beautiful that it was hard to look away.
