My name is Dong Xiaohui, a poor loser who stumbled into the wrong wedding chamber. Now, I feel like my dream of turning my life around is about to come true. But it hasn’t fully materialized yet.
"Is that your wife?" Manager Yu asked me, his eyes wide with surprise. I vaguely remembered that yesterday, Manager Yu officiated our wedding and insisted on staying to witness the festivities. She said she had never experienced a wedding like this and wanted to see it for herself. As it turned out, she was wilder than anyone else at the celebration.
"Where's my Xiao Hui?" I muttered under my breath, a thousand alpacas stampeding through my mind.
"Xiao... Hui?" Manager Yu suddenly blushed. "You’re really disgusting!"
I didn’t have time to deal with her right now. No matter how young, beautiful, or wealthy she was, she was still in bed at this moment. Yes... in the bed where I was supposed to be with my wife.
But all I could think about was my little darling, Yao Hui, who had vanished from sight. We had known each other for half a year and rushed into marriage; we were still in the honeymoon phase! I believed there was no one in this world who understood me better than her. That’s why I nearly spent all my savings to make this marriage happen.
So, was I upset about the money? No! The angel in my heart slapped the devil away. I was doing it for that sweet promise of happiness! Xiao Hui had said that our wedding night was just the beginning for us.
I needed to find someone!
I quickly grabbed my phone and pressed the speed dial.
“Ring... beep...”
Just as the phone rang once, Manager Yu reached over and hung up.
"What are you doing?"
"What are you doing?"
We both spoke at the same time.
"Of course I'm looking for my wife! Why did you hang up on me?" I asked, furrowing my brows.
"Tell her to come over now? To visit us?" Manager Yu looked at me as if I were a fool.
"Let’s take a picture together, what a meaningful wedding anniversary!"
She released my phone and spread her hands in a gesture of indifference.
I immediately deflated, staring blankly at my phone, feeling dejected as I sat down on the floor.
The phone was silent; my friends who were supposed to be making a ruckus were quiet, and Yao Hui was also unresponsive.
I might be the most lonely groom in the world after the wedding night.
"Alright, go help me get my clothes," Manager Yu said leisurely.
I found it strange that after everything that happened last night, she could still remain so calm.
I picked up the scattered clothes from the floor and respectfully handed them to her.
"Sleepwear! I reek of alcohol; don’t I need to take a shower?"
"Oh, right... okay."
That was the silk sleepwear I had just bought for Xiao Hui; it hadn’t even been worn once.
I ran my fingers over the expensive fabric but reluctantly handed it over to Manager Yu.
"Pfft... what a poor sight. I'll buy your Xiao Hui a new one later," Manager Yu said as she donned the sleepwear and swaggered off to the bathroom.
I leaned against the headboard, aimlessly scrolling through my phone while trying hard to recall what happened yesterday.
We had quite a few traditions for wedding nights, like tying a banana around the groom's waist and having the bride eat it; that was considered a minor prank here.
The last thing I clearly remembered before getting drunk was asking my friends to tidy up the place before leaving, and then I didn’t know who carried me into the bedroom afterward. Everything else was a blur.
"Xiao Hui! Clothes!" A hand poked out from the bathroom door, waving at me.
" damn... Do you think it's so easy to boss me around? Are you treating my wedding chamber like a company?"
"Everywhere else, they celebrate the groom and the bride. This is the first time I've seen someone disturb the wedding chamber to mess with the bridesmaids and the elders. How vulgar! Bah!"
manager Yu changed his clothes and left after throwing out those words.
You're not even a bridesmaid; you're just a witness. Why do you have to come into the wedding chamber to stir things up? Is it my fault?
As the door slammed shut with a loud bang, a wave of complex emotions surged within me.
