That night, he drunkenly pushed me onto the bed. I could smell the alcohol on him and felt a surge of fear as I struggled against him. He tore open my collar and coldly laughed, "Since you like me so much, even agreeing to a marriage by proxy, I naturally have to make you satisfied."
I felt a sharp pain, so intense that my nails dug into his flesh.
He lifted his head, his eyes filled with a surging hatred. "You are as disgusting as the the Mu Family."
That night, he relentlessly took me again and again. I pleaded and cried, but he only looked at me coldly, devoid of any tenderness or pity.
After it was over, Qiu Qinrui got up, dressed, and left.
A year later, Qiu An was born. His eyes were round and he was adorable; Qiu Qinrui adored him and would play with our son for a long time every day when he returned home.
During that time, we managed to get along reasonably well. Although Qiu Qinrui didn't like me, he no longer humiliated me as he had on our wedding night.
I thought to myself that this was how life would be from then on.
What I didn't expect was that the tranquility would soon be shattered.
When Qiu An was four years old, Mu Shu woke up.
Qiu Qinrui sat in the study all night while Mu Chun's parents were overjoyed with tears of happiness.
They compensated Mu Shu for all the debts, guilt, and love they had owed her.
I had thought that Mu Shu and I could coexist peacefully without interfering in each other's lives. But unexpectedly, she gradually invaded my world.
During meals, I would see Qiu An sitting in the middle with Qiu Qinrui and Mu Shu on either side, the atmosphere harmonious and warm.
Mu Shu would occasionally make jokes about how difficult it was to cook and how complicated the dishes were. Qiu Qinrui's occasional laughter showed his delight. In my heart, I thought they truly resembled a happy family of three.
Qiu Qinrui valued rules and believed in silence during meals. Once before, I had been reprimanded for introducing a dish I had made, accused of lacking manners and etiquette. Since then, meals had been shrouded in silence.
Now it seemed it was only because of me.
Seeing me there, Mu Shu awkwardly explained, "I thought I'd try making something new for them to taste."
Qiu An tugged at Mu Shu's hand and said, "Mother, I like Aunt Shu's cooking."
"Really? Then I'll make it for you often," Mu Shu smiled as she patted Qiu An's head.
I stood there frozen, watching their intimate interaction in confusion.
Mu Shu would take Qiu An and Qiu Qinrui out shopping when Qiu An should be studying. I insisted that Qiu An must finish her schoolwork before going out. She indulged Qiu An in buying candies and snacks, while I reminded her to maintain a balanced diet and not eat too many sweets.
I had privately discussed these matters with Qiu Qinrui, but he seemed indifferent to my concerns. Before long, Qiu An developed a toothache and couldn't eat. Household Physician examined her and said it was due to eating too much sugar. At that moment, Qiu Qinrui blamed me for not being a responsible mother and not taking care of our child properly.
Afterward, I discovered Qiu An sneaking candies, and I sternly stopped her, confiscating the sweets she had hidden. In response, Qiu An threw a tantrum, crying and accusing me of being unkind, insisting that Mu Shu treated her better and wanted Mu Shu to be her mother instead.
I was shocked and couldn't believe how my once well-behaved and polite child had transformed into someone so unruly in such a short time. Without saying another word, I turned and walked away.
A few days before Qiu An's birthday, I was bedridden at home recovering from an illness. In order to ensure my son could have a proper birthday celebration, I worked through the night to make a set of clothes and carefully prepared other birthday gifts.
