"Wow!" It was hard to blame Liu Ru Yan for her shock, as Jiang Nan's appearance was exactly like that elusive 'Dragon' from their past life, who was always seen but never truly known. How could this be possible? Was it merely a coincidence? But such coincidences were rare in the world. "Now that I think about it, isn't our Emperor also named Jiang Nan?" Lan Ruo Yi pondered after Liu Ru Yan's reminder, realizing that it seemed to be true. "You freeze time for a moment; I'll go take a look." "Okay," Lan Ruo Yi replied and prepared to make her move. She raised her right hand, but before she could act, Li Meng beside her grabbed her hand.
Lan Ruo Yi was taken aback, looking at Li Meng in surprise, but Li Meng avoided her gaze as if this action was merely casual. "Li Meng is holding my hand," Lan Ruo Yi noted calmly, her eyes fixed ahead. She gently stopped trying to break free and soon realized she couldn't escape, so she gave up. Liu Ru Yan asked, "What does this mean?" "Just look," Lan Ruo Yi replied, not wanting to waste time on unnecessary chatter. Liu Ru Yan observed Lan Ruo Yi's hand held firmly by Li Meng and shook her head in helplessness. Liu Ru Yan's ability was rather lackluster; she could only shrink distances, but that function could only be used when it was just the two of them; otherwise, they would be seen as monsters.
Zhang Baofeng also noticed Li Meng's actions and signaled her with his eyes to let go, but Li Meng pretended not to see. Zhang Baofeng shook his head helplessly, thinking to himself, "Alright then, you can be stubborn! One day you'll regret this!" Meanwhile, the expressions of those present varied. They maintained a facade of indifference, seemingly unconcerned about everything happening around them. However, their Sister Na had already stepped onto the stage, preparing to give a speech. The speech seemed somewhat dull, merely announcing work goals and plans.
Time ticked by until it reached 10 PM. A heavy sense of fatigue hung in the air of the conference room; everyone appeared listless. Just then, Jiang Nan seemed to have more to say, but the attendees were already exhausted and felt they could not bear any more words. Lan Ruo Yi glanced at Li Meng as if asking if she needed anything. "Can you let go now?" Lan Ruo Yi's voice carried a hint of coldness and determination. Her tone sounded threatening to Liu Ru Yan while Li Meng suddenly realized her actions as if waking from a dream. She quickly released Lan Ruo Yi's hand and began to wave it apologetically.
"I'm really sorry! I didn't even realize I was holding your hand until you reminded me," Li Meng explained awkwardly with a nervous laugh, trying to diffuse the tension in the air. Lan Ruo Yi remained silent, simply rubbing her now-numb hand while Zhang Baofeng looked at Li Meng with disapproval: this was too fake.
"Alright, that's all for today's meeting; thank you all for your hard work. See you tomorrow!" With Jiang Nan's words, various sighs of relief filled the conference room. "Finally done!" Bai Juan exclaimed, voicing everyone's thoughts. Although there was such a meeting every month, it was still exhausting.
"Bai Juan, how are you getting back later? We can go to the subway station together," Tian Luo offered. Liu Ru Yan wanted to say something more when she suddenly spotted Jiang Nan with another woman nearby. "Look at Jiang Zong and Super Sister together! They seem quite interesting with their boss-secretary dynamic," Ming Zhu remarked as she noticed Liu Ru Yan staring blankly in one direction.
Hearing this, Dong Li responded with exasperation: "So we are part of their play too?" "What about Sister He?" Zhang Baofeng suddenly asked out of nowhere. "What does Sister He have to do with this?" Liu Ru Yan questioned in confusion over their sudden mention of Sister He.
"I heard Sister He is Jiang Zong's... whatever!" Dong Li said excitedly as everyone’s attention shifted towards him. "What are you all talking about?" Just as they were about to dive into discussion, a voice suddenly interrupted from behind them. Ming Zhu reflexively opened her mouth to respond but was quickly silenced by Zhang Baofeng covering her mouth and pulling her aside.
"Jiang Zong, please go ahead," Dong Li said politely while clearing a path for Jiang Zong. "Hehe, I saw you all so lively earlier and wanted to ask what was happening; now that I'm here, I won't say anything," Jiang Nan spoke warmly as if he were not a boss at all.
Liu Ru Yan felt struck by his direct approach; honestly speaking, if she could speak at that moment, she would have wanted to poke her eyes out. From afar it seemed fine; however, upon closer inspection, Jiang Nan’s leather outfit—both jacket and pants—was blue! It hugged his slender figure perfectly; one could only think of pole vaulting when looking at him—yes indeed!
"Hehe, Jiang Zong is joking; we were just teaching Xiao Liu here; she just started and has some issues that need sorting out," Dong Li laughed nervously in hopes that Jiang Zong wouldn’t mind the situation while pulling Liu Ru Yan forward as a shield since she was still stunned into silence.
"Good good good! You all are doing great; unity and friendship—I feel reassured with you here!" After saying this, Jiang Nan left first while his praise echoed in the distance.
"Are you really reassured? Are you sure? Then rest easy! We will definitely mess things up," Lan Ruo Yi silently added in her heart as she snapped back to reality upon hearing Dong Li’s words along with Jiang Nan’s comment.
"Alright then; Jiang Zong not being upset shows his generosity; you all should hurry back; we have work tomorrow!" Just as everyone felt relieved again, a sharp voice rang out nearby. Hearing this voice made their spirits lift once more; fortunately, its owner did not hold them accountable for their earlier indiscretions tonight.
"Is Jiang Zong really generous? I don't see much of a belly there," Zhang Baofeng blurted out an absurd comment without thinking; he genuinely hadn’t noticed any signs of Jiang Zong being pregnant—in fact he looked quite slender!
Dong Li and Ming Zhu rolled their eyes silently at his remark before dragging Liu Ru Yan and Lan Ruo Yi away from the scene. Just as they stepped outside the door, someone called out their names. The two turned around to see others saying: "You two head back first; we probably have another meeting soon—so envious of you!"
