As the two of them stepped out of the place, Xu Shen felt a chilling breeze sweep past him, causing him to shiver uncontrollably.
"Where's your car? Hurry up and bring it over! What kind of weather is this? It's freezing!"
Upon hearing this, Li Yingxue quickly pulled out the car keys from her bag, ready to drive the car to their location. Before she could turn around, Xu Shen noticed a sudden change in her demeanor; her expression brightened instantly as she called out to someone in the distance.
"Manager Li, where are you headed?"
When Xu Shen saw the manager walking toward them, an ominous feeling washed over him. His luck had been terrible lately, and every encounter with the manager seemed to lead to troublesome situations. He lowered his head, not daring to meet Manager Li's gaze.
It was clear that Xu Shen was feeling quite displeased internally. He couldn't help but wonder why he kept running into this persistent figure and when he would finally be rid of him at the company.
As he kept his head down, Manager Li passed by him, which made Xu Shen breathe a sigh of relief. However, before he could feel happy about it, he heard Manager Li call out his name.
"Xu Shen!"
"What is it, Manager Li? Do you need something?" Xu Shen asked, unsure if it was the cold weather or Manager Li's voice that made him tremble even more.
Looking up at Manager Li at that moment shocked him; her face resembled someone from his nightmares almost perfectly. Above her head floated the spirit of Li Yingxue, glaring angrily at Manager Li.
"You slept during work hours today," Manager Li stated firmly. "According to company policy, you must face consequences for this. I hope you can reflect on your mistakes; otherwise, I won’t be able to manage others in the company effectively. After work today, take some time to relax and gather your thoughts so you can come back tomorrow ready to tackle your tasks with energy. If you bring these negative feelings into the workplace again, I assure you that next time I won’t hesitate to send you straight to Human Resources with your contract in hand."
Manager Li's words felt more like a threat than advice.
Upon hearing this, Xu Shen suddenly realized something important. He remembered that in the restroom earlier, Li Yingxue's spirit had told him he was the only one who could see her in this world. The hostile look she had directed at Manager Li might have made it seem like he was the target of her anger, which explained why he was receiving such a warning. Understanding this, Xu Shen hurriedly began to explain himself.
"Manager, you must have misunderstood me! I truly don’t feel unhappy about anything. You are my superior; whatever you ask me to do, I will do without question. Besides, considering my situation today at work, your punishment is already quite lenient towards me. How could I dare have any other thoughts?"
Xu Shen responded sincerely.
"That's good to hear!"
