Xu Shen never expected that his words would provoke such a lengthy response from Li Yingxue. From his tone, it was clear that he was still playing the innocent card. Such naivety truly evoked a sense of pity; one could only wonder what thoughts occupied his mind daily. Not only did he believe in the flimsy excuses he concocted, but even his casual remarks had somehow morphed into profound wisdom. This left Xu Shen utterly perplexed.
"Actually, there’s nothing wrong with it. Let’s just stop thinking about these annoying issues, shall we? It’s after work now, and after work is meant for enjoyment! Remember, we agreed that no one gets to back out today. You promised to treat me to hot pot, so let’s go!" With that, Xu Shen drove aimlessly towards the exit of the company.
"Hey, are you really this clueless? Are you going back on your word? Where are we even going for hot pot?"
Noticing that Li Yingxue had remained silent for quite some time, Xu Shen suddenly felt something was off and turned to look at the back seat.
He saw Li Yingxue’s spirit sitting beside him, a mocking smile on her face.
"You clingy pest! Were you a dog in your past life? Why do you have to follow me everywhere? When will you ever leave us alone, you endless nuisance?"
Li Yingxue's spirit chuckled lightly, seemingly protective as it hovered next to him.
"What’s wrong with me checking on my own body? Today has been exhausting for him. I just want him to get some good rest and recover his energy. After all, he is my body. Do I need your permission to care about myself? You’re overstepping your bounds; don’t forget who I am—I could dispose of you anytime!"
After hearing this explanation, Xu Shen thought it over and realized she had a point. After all, she was Li Yingxue's spirit. Although their thoughts were currently independent, in their past lives, Li Yingxue must have been her true self after he turned away.
"However," Xu Shen continued cautiously, "if your spirit stays too close to him in this state, it might affect his luck and health. Our energies are completely different; being too close could bring no benefits."
Upon hearing this, Li Yingxue's spirit suddenly floated up and passed through the car roof to take the passenger seat beside him. She then unleashed her fury in a booming voice.
"I don’t need you telling me what to do!"
At that moment, Xu Shen felt an intense chill enveloping the car; despite not having the air conditioning on, the temperature felt even colder than if it were running. The icy atmosphere made him instinctively pull his jacket tighter around himself.
Now that Li Yingxue's spirit was so close in the passenger seat and seemed more familiar than before, Xu Shen found that he was no longer as fearful as he had been earlier. He tentatively extended his arm to touch Li Yingxue's spirit.
