Watching a movie with Wu Rong is undoubtedly a disaster for others. As long as no one stops him from talking, he will meticulously dissect every flaw in even the most rigorous science fiction films, pointing out inconsistencies from beginning to end. When it comes to ordinary romantic films, it’s even worse; he’ll make you question your own life and love, leading you to believe that the deep affection between the main characters is nothing but a façade.
The sad part is that he often makes valid points, and before you know it, you’re completely derailed. Thus, watching a movie with Wu Rong turns into a correction session rather than an appreciation of the film. After going to the movies with him a few times, Rao Jie strictly enforced a rule: no comments allowed during any film. She didn’t want to ruin her mood while watching and feel even worse afterward.
Wu Rong felt wronged but had no choice but to comply. Tonight, they planned to watch an animated movie—a genre that Wu Rong found nearly impossible to critique since it was so far removed from human life that he couldn’t bring himself to nitpick it. However, seeing Wu Rong’s lackluster enthusiasm made Rao Jie suspect that he actually enjoyed watching ordinary films just to find faults in them.
“Animated movies are for kids,” Wu Rong complained lightly.
Rao Jie found his demeanor somewhat endearing and replied, “I like them! If you really don’t want to watch it, we can pick something else.”
Seeing her response, Wu Rong fell silent. “Fine, let’s watch it. I’ll just consider it an early adaptation.”
Rao Jie paused, puzzled. “Adaptation for what?”
Wu Rong answered matter-of-factly, “To prepare for our future life with kids. As a father, I’ll have to take them to see animated movies, right?”
Rao Jie’s face suddenly flushed red, and she couldn’t help but give Wu Rong a playful shove.
Wu Rong looked at her in confusion, wanting to discuss why he was being hit. Just then, as they walked arm in arm, lost in their own world, they heard someone call out, “Hey! Isn’t that Wu Rong? Wu Rong!”
Rao Jie and Wu Rong looked up to see several people—both men and women—approaching them.
“It really is Wu Rong! Long time no see!” one of them exclaimed.
“Ye Ming said you were busy; what a coincidence running into you here!” another added.
“So you’ve been here with your little girlfriend all along!”
"Girlfriend? Isn't she your sister? It's quite a surprise to see you out on a date."
"Come on, come on! It's been over ten years since we last met as classmates. We can't miss this rare reunion! Everyone just resumed singing up ahead!"
Rao Jie looked at the group, clearly a bit tipsy. If they were sober, he would only have seen Ye Ming daring to speak to Wu Rong like that.
"Oh dear, when everyone sees us bringing Wu Rong over, they'll definitely be shocked."
"Come on, come on! Wu Rong and Little Girlfriend together!"
Wu Rong frowned and refused, "Sorry, my girlfriend and I have plans."
"It's late at night! Oh come on, it's just a date, it won't take long. Let everyone see you!" A few drunkards couldn't help but start pushing Wu Rong.
Wu Rong disliked being touched by others and was about to lose his temper when Rao Jie stopped him.
"Don't argue with drunk people," Rao Jie whispered.
"Oh dear, are you whispering? Is Little Girlfriend not letting you go? Little sister, that's not right. You can't control your boyfriend like that in public; it's very disrespectful. In front of others, you should support your man, understand? Otherwise, it can easily lead to conflicts."
