As Feng Xunyu spoke, the passenger plane was beginning its descent.
The aircraft gradually lowered, gently shaking as the outlines of the city outside became clearer.
After disembarking, Feng Xunyu hurriedly made his way out of HZ City International Airport with Sixuan, quickly heading to the hospital where his mother was located.
On the way to the hospital, Feng Xunyu called his father, Feng Leng, anxiously asking for the exact location of his mother, Lin Wei.
His father's voice on the other end was weary and hoarse, tightening Feng Xunyu's heart even more.
About an hour later, they arrived at the hospital and went straight to Lin Wei's ward.
Inside the room were only two people—Feng Xunyu's parents. His mother, Lin Wei, appeared to be in her early forties, her complexion pale as paper, bearing a sickly expression. She looked extremely weak, as if a gust of wind could blow her away.
At that moment, she lay on the hospital bed, breathing slowly, each breath seeming to exhaust all her strength.
As for Feng Xunyu's father, Feng Leng, although he looked only in his mid-forties, his hair was completely white, as if time had hastily dusted him with frost. His face was lined with wrinkles that told tales of life's hardships, making him appear much older.
He sat by the bed, tightly holding his wife's hand, gazing at her with deep sorrow in his eyes, as if bidding her a final farewell.
Feng Xunyu walked slowly to Lin Wei's side, his steps gentle yet tinged with urgency. He carefully sat down beside her and grasped her hand. Suddenly, tears filled his eyes; his throat felt constricted as if something was lodged there. After a long moment, he finally called out softly, "Mom!" His voice carried endless worry and affection.
Lin Wei slowly opened her eyes as if summoning her last bit of strength. She glanced at Feng Xunyu and managed a faint smile at the corner of her mouth. With some effort, she said, "Xunyu... you’re back."
Her face, once resembling a withered flower, lifeless and dull, suddenly brightened with a hint of vitality upon seeing Feng Xunyu return.
She took a shallow breath, her voice weak and intermittent as she spoke, “Xunyu… I was really scared just now… scared that I would never see you again… cough cough… Being able to see you now… that is heaven’s blessing… I… I am content now… without any worries…”
Each word seemed to be squeezed out from the deepest part of her heart.
Feng Xunyu choked back tears, saying, “Mom, don’t say that. You will get better.” Tears welled up in her eyes as she struggled to hold them back.
Feng Leng bent down as well, gently wrapping his left arm around Feng Xunyu, trying to give strength to both her and his wife. With his right hand, he tightly grasped Lin Wei's hand intertwined with Xunyu's, his voice hoarse from sadness and exhaustion as he said, “What your daughter said is true; you will get better. We will go home together and continue our lives. Please don’t give up!”
His eyes were filled with hope and encouragement, trying to convey a sense of life to his wife.
Lin Wei smiled faintly, not speaking for several seconds before softly saying, “Xunyu… I suddenly really want to see the family photo we took before… I miss Yin Xuan and Guyue so much…”
Mentioning the children brought a glimmer of tenderness and longing to her eyes.
Feng Leng quickly replied, “Okay, I’ll go home right now and get the photo.” He stood up, ready to head out.
“Dad,” Feng Xunyu glanced at her father, “let me go get it. You stay here with Mom.” She understood that her father couldn’t leave her mother’s side at this moment.
Without waiting for Feng Leng’s response, Feng Xunyu turned to Lin Wei and asked, “Mom, where did you put that photo?”
“It’s in the nightstand in the bedroom…” Lin Wei spoke weakly now, her voice barely audible.
“Alright! I’ll go home right away to get that family photo!” Feng Xunyu declared as she stood up.
Without waiting for Feng Leng and Lin Wei to respond, Feng Xunyu had already taken Sixuan, who had not spoken a word or even glanced at Feng Leng and Lin Wei, out of the hospital room.
Sixuan followed closely behind Feng Xunyu, his expression indifferent, as if everything around him was of no concern.
After more than ten minutes, Feng Xunyu returned to the home he had been away from for two years, accompanied by Sixuan. As they stepped through the door, a familiar scent enveloped them, yet it felt somewhat strange and desolate.
Feng Xunyu was about to head toward his parents' bedroom when he heard Sixuan say in a flat tone, "Where is the Testament written by Feng Yinxuan? Show it to me."
His voice carried no emotion, as if he were discussing something utterly mundane.
Feng Xunyu paused for a moment, puzzled. "Why?" He did not understand why Sixuan suddenly brought this up.
Sixuan's response was succinct: "To verify." A glint of sharpness flashed in his eyes.
"Verify what?" Feng Xunyu was even more confused.
"Reasoning." Sixuan was sparing with his words.
Understanding that Sixuan possessed an exceptionally high intelligence and that whatever he intended to do must have its rationale, Feng Xunyu chose not to press further. He simply said, "Wait a moment," before hurriedly entering the room where Feng Yinxuan had lived.
