The room still retained the appearance it had two years ago, only now it was covered in a thick layer of dust, as if time had come to a standstill here.
Sixuan twisted his neck and glanced around, yawning widely before slowly following Feng Xunyu into her brother's room.
Inside, Feng Xunyu was rummaging through drawers in a frantic search for the Testament written by Feng Yinxuan. Her movements were urgent and chaotic, each drawer being pulled open and shut in quick succession.
Meanwhile, Sixuan looked around with sharp eyes, seemingly searching for something as well, not letting any corner go unchecked.
"I found it!" After several seconds, Feng Xunyu suddenly exclaimed, her voice tinged with excitement. "Look, this is the Testament written by my brother."
She handed the paper to Sixuan, her hands trembling slightly.
Taking it, Sixuan saw that it was a piece of A5 paper torn from a notebook, with crooked lines scrawled across it:
June 14, 2007, Overcast
Today my mood is as gloomy as the weather.
Because Dad, Mom, Big Sister, and Second Sister all don’t believe me. They think I’m the thief who stole the money.
I’ve been wronged. I feel so hurt and pained. I think living has lost its meaning.
Sixuan quickly read through the contents of the Testament, licked his lips, and asked Feng Xunyu: "Is this all there is?" A hint of skepticism flickered in his eyes.
Feng Xunyu nodded, "Yes."
Sixuan let out an "oh," pulled out a cigarette case from his pocket, and poured a few brightly colored fruit hard candies into his mouth. Chewing them without any expression, he said, "It's all quite obvious. How could no one have discovered this back then?"
"What?" Sixuan's words left Feng Xunyu completely baffled. She furrowed her brows, looking at Sixuan with confusion.
Sixuan chewed vigorously for a moment, swallowed the candies, licked his lips, and slowly continued, "First, this is not a Testament; it's a diary. This piece of paper was torn from a diary, and Feng Yinxuan wrote the date and weather on it. This is the format of a diary; he was clearly writing a diary.
Second, the last word on the last line is 'but,' not a punctuation mark. This indicates that Feng Yinxuan's diary entry was unfinished, and there was likely to be a turn in the content that followed." He spoke while lightly tapping the paper with his finger.
Feng Xunyu frowned slightly. "From your analysis, this so-called 'Testament' really does have many suspicious points. Could it be..." A wave of unease surged within her, as if she sensed something.
Sixuan completely ignored Feng Xunyu and casually interrupted her, "As long as we can find out the content of the next page of the diary, everything will be clear."
Feng Xunyu sighed, "It's impossible to find the next page of the diary now. Besides, the police never found any diary; they only found this one page of the Testament." Her tone carried a hint of helplessness and disappointment.
"Of course they wouldn't find it," Sixuan said lightly. "Because the diary has already been disposed of. However, figuring out what was on the next page is quite simple." A subtle smile played at the corners of his mouth.
"What?" Feng Xunyu was taken aback by this revelation. After a moment of surprise, she quickly reacted and asked eagerly, "How can we find out?" Her eyes were filled with anticipation.
Sixuan licked his left thumb and said, "I've seen this kind of diary before. Its format is such that every left page is blank for writing while the right page has printed patterns that are quite beautiful.
When Feng Yinxuan finished writing what we see now on the left side of one page in the diary, he couldn't continue on the patterned right side but had to turn to a new page and continue writing on the left side of that next page."
"What does it matter?" Feng Xunyu momentarily found herself at a loss, her mind in disarray.
"In that case, when Feng Yinxuan wrote in his diary on the left side of the next page, he did so on top of the paper we have now. Children tend to write with a lot of force, and at that time, Feng Yinxuan was emotionally charged, so he would have written even harder than usual. This means that the content of the next page of the diary is more or less imprinted on the paper we are holding," Sixuan explained patiently, a hint of pride gleaming in his eyes.
"Huh?" Feng Xunyu's eyes widened, her mouth agape, wearing an expression of utter disbelief as if she had just heard a fantastical tale.
After several seconds, she regained her composure and asked with a trembling voice, "So you mean to say that you have deduced the content of Yin Xuan's next diary page from the traces left on this paper?" Her voice was filled with astonishment and disbelief.
"Yes," Sixuan replied. "Although it's not very clear, I can still make it out. The content of the next diary page reads: 'I will not give up easily. I believe that one day, Dad, Mom, and my two sisters will understand my struggles. I take Uncle Lei Feng as my role model; helping others brings joy, and everyone will be proud of me.' Do you understand? 'I have been wronged; I feel terrible and in pain. I think life has lost its meaning, but I will not give up easily. I believe that one day, Dad, Mom, and my two sisters will understand my struggles.' That is the complete message Feng Yinxuan wanted to convey!" He finished in one breath.
Feng Xunyu could only stare blankly, speechless for a long time.
Her mind was a whirlwind, filled with shock and regret.
However, Sixuan did not give Feng Xunyu any time to think or rest; he continued, "Feng Yinxuan had no intention of committing suicide at all. Therefore, my conclusion is: Feng Yinxuan was not a suicide; he was murdered!"
