"What... how could this happen?" First, it was the mystery of Feng Yinxuan's death, and now it was the mystery of her origins. These facts, which were completely inconsistent with what Feng Xunyu knew, came crashing down one after another, leaving her feeling lost and bewildered.
Her body trembled slightly as she tightly clutched the hem of her clothes, trying to calm herself down.
"There should be other clues left in this room," Sixuan said slowly, his eyes filled with determination and confidence. "Let's search around."
Feng Xunyu did not respond but weakly nodded. At that moment, her heart felt incredibly heavy, as if a massive stone was pressing down on her, making it hard to breathe.
Next, Sixuan and Feng Xunyu each took action, searching in Feng Leng's and Lin Wei's rooms for clues related to Feng Yinxuan's origins. Sixuan's gaze was sharp; he missed no corner, believing that every item could be the key to unraveling the mystery.
Feng Xunyu felt somewhat dazed, mechanically rummaging through things with a heart full of contradictions and pain. After a few minutes, Sixuan said, "There aren't many suspicious places here. Where else did your father often stay besides the bedroom?"
"The study!" Feng Xunyu's voice was hoarse, as if all her strength had been drained away.
"Let's go take a look," Sixuan replied succinctly yet firmly.
The two made their way to Feng Leng's study to continue their investigation. As soon as they entered the study, Sixuan transformed into a keen-scented hound, quickly beginning his search.
Before long, he discovered something suspicious on one of the shelves of the bookcase.
"Come over here," Sixuan called Feng Xunyu from where she was inspecting the desk.
"What did you find?" Feng Xunyu asked, her voice tinged with a hint of anticipation mixed with fear.
"The books on this shelf are all covered in dust, which proves they haven't been touched in a long time. However, this book is completely dust-free; it must have been moved recently," Sixuan said, carefully pulling out the dustless book as if unveiling a long-buried secret. Sure enough, behind the book, they discovered a hidden compartment!
"There’s a hidden compartment," Sixuan's voice carried a hint of barely concealed excitement.
"What? A hidden compartment?" Feng Xunyu exclaimed in shock. "I've lived here for over ten years and didn't even know my father's bookshelf had one!" Her eyes were filled with surprise and confusion, feeling suddenly estranged from the home she thought she knew.
"If you can find it, it’s not a hidden compartment; it’s a drawer," Sixuan remarked as he cautiously opened the compartment, revealing a beige envelope inside.
He took out the envelope, opened it, and pulled out a document.
It was actually a paternity test report!
"What is this?" Feng Xunyu asked, her voice trembling as if she already sensed the report's contents.
"A paternity test report. It’s your dad Feng Leng's report regarding your brother Feng Yinxuan," Sixuan said while flipping through the report. "It states that Feng Leng has no blood relation to Feng Yinxuan."
"What?" Although Sixuan had previously deduced this conclusion, when faced with the evidence and the speculation turned into fact, Feng Xunyu still found it hard to accept. Her body swayed slightly as if she might fall, and she clutched the bookshelf tightly to steady herself.
Sixuan set down the report and pulled out a tube of Mentos mints from his pocket. He squeezed out two pieces, tossed them into his mouth, and chewed as he continued, "I think that back then, Feng Leng accidentally saw Feng Yinxuan's medical examination report and discovered that Feng Yinxuan's blood type was AB. He knew he couldn't have a child with Lin Wei who had an AB blood type, so he suspected Lin Wei of infidelity and thought Feng Yinxuan might be Lin Wei's child with another man.
So he secretly obtained a hair sample from Feng Yinxuan and went to the hospital for a paternity test. The result confirmed that Feng Yinxuan was indeed not his biological son. This must have been his motive for killing Feng Yinxuan..."
Sixuan cleared his throat and continued slowly, "If he is indeed the one who killed Feng Yinxuan..."
