The moment the door was smashed open, a putrid smell filled the air.
They were here.
I tightened my grip on the bottle in my hand, sweat trickling down my forehead and stinging my eyes.
But this pain was nothing compared to the horrifying scene before me, far worse than any nightmare.
A horde of zombies surged into the gymnasium, their numbers exceeding our worst fears.
They moved with a jerky yet rapid motion, emitting low growls from their mouths like hungry beasts catching the scent of blood.
"Everyone! Defend your positions!" Li Fengzhu's voice boomed like thunder. He waved his hand, signaling the security team to quickly set up defenses, but the panic in the crowd was already spiraling out of control.
Survivors screamed and fled in all directions. Some even recklessly dashed toward the exit, only to be tackled to the ground in the next moment. The sight of blood splattering made my stomach churn.
"Don't run!" I shouted, but my voice was quickly drowned out by the chaos.
General Hu stood at the back of the crowd, a cold smirk on his face, looking as if he couldn't care less.
That bastard!
He must be hoping we all die so he can hoard all the resources for himself!
Zhao Mengmeng cowered behind me, her pale face filled with fear. "Brother Haotian... what do we do?"
What do we do?
I didn't know either!
My mind was a chaotic whirlwind, but I knew that if I didn’t do something now, we would all die here.
Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to calm down. "Mengmeng, stay close to me and don’t run off."
She nodded vigorously, her small hand clutching the hem of my shirt tightly.
"Jiang Haotian!" Li Fengzhu suddenly shouted at me, his voice laced with impatience and doubt. "Don’t you have Miracle Socks? Hurry up and use them!"
His tone stung, igniting a pang of hurt in my chest.
Even he was starting to doubt me?
"Socks..." I let out a bitter laugh as I glanced at the bottle in my hand. "I’m afraid it won’t last much longer."
At that moment, Jiang Jie squeezed her way to my side. Adjusting her glasses, she spoke calmly but with a hint of anxiety. "Hao Tian, it looks like we have to rely on you this time."
Rely on me?
I looked at the horde of zombies surging toward us and then at the single bottle of Miracle Liquid I had left. A sense of absurd helplessness washed over me—what could this thing possibly do?
But in that instant, a thought flashed through my mind.
The gymnasium!
This is a gymnasium!
I quickly scanned the surroundings, my eyes darting over the seats, railings, and obstacles. A bold plan began to take shape.
"Listen!" I shouted, "Everyone retreat to the stands! Use chairs and obstacles to block the passage!"
The survivors hesitated for a moment, some looking uncertainly at Li Fengzhu. "Will this... work?" one of them asked.
Li Fengzhu frowned at me. "Jiang Haotian, are you sure?"
"Better to try than wait to die!" My voice was so cold and harsh that it felt foreign to me. "Either follow my orders or get eaten!"
Before I could finish speaking, a zombie lunged at the nearest survivor. The sound of tearing flesh shattered any remaining hope they had.
"Quick! Listen to him!" Jiang Jie shouted, taking the lead as she pulled several survivors toward the stands. Li Fengzhu gritted his teeth and ordered, "Security team, cover the retreat!"
The scene finally regained some semblance of order, but the horde of zombies continued to close in on us. We didn't have much time!
Just as we reached the stands, a massive Mutated Zombie suddenly burst from the crowd. Its speed far exceeded that of ordinary zombies as it leaped directly toward Zhao Mengmeng!
"Watch out!" Instinctively, I pushed her aside and kicked at the creature, but it didn't budge. Instead, it opened its gaping maw full of sharp teeth and lunged at me!
This is bad!
In that instant, I felt a wave of heat on my back—sweat trickling down my spine. To my surprise, the Mutated Zombie paused, its grotesque face just inches from my neck, as if it had caught a whiff of something foul and recoiled in horror!
Zhao Mengmeng's eyes widened. "Brother Haotian... your sweat..."
Sweat?
That's right!
Wasn't that "Miracle Liquid" extracted from Socks?
Could it be that my Sweat is what truly counters these monsters?
There was no time to think further. I quickly took off my jacket, wiped my forehead with the cuff, and then flung it hard at the Mutated Zombie—sure enough, it let out a piercing scream, staggering back a few steps before being pushed aside by the other zombies!
This was a breakthrough!
“Everyone, pay attention!” I shouted loudly. “These monsters are afraid of my sweat! Soak your clothes in my Sweat to deal with them!”
The survivors exchanged glances, but Zhao Mengmeng didn’t hesitate to take off her jacket and hand it to me. “Brother Haotian, use this!”
With her leading the way, others quickly followed suit, handing me their clothes, while Jiang Jie even pulled out an empty bottle for me to drip my sweat into.
They were really going all out…
But now wasn’t the time for hesitation. Gritting my teeth, I poured out my Sweat while directing everyone to throw these “weapons” at the zombies. The monsters indeed began to panic; some even collapsed on the ground, no longer moving!
Li Fengzhu saw this scene and finally set aside his doubts. He said in a deep voice, “Jiang Haotian, you take charge; we’ll follow your lead!”
His words sent a jolt through me—did he truly trust me completely?
There was no time for reflection. I quickly devised a plan for everyone to set traps using the limited resources in the gym while distributing more Sweat Weapons to each person. Zhao Mengmeng was tasked with finding more containers to store sweat—she even emptied her water bottle just to fill it with Miracle Liquid.
The battle lasted a full two hours; everyone was exhausted, but we ultimately succeeded in repelling this wave of zombies. The surviving survivors looked at me with gratitude and admiration.
However, just as everyone let out a sigh of relief, a sinister voice broke the brief silence: “Hehe... what a wonderful show.”
General Hu stepped out from the shadows, a sarcastic and resentful smile on his face. "Jiang Haotian, you really are a 'hero,' aren't you?"
His words sent a chill down my spine, and I instinctively clenched my fists. " General Hu, what do you want this time?"
He shrugged innocently. "Oh, nothing much. I just find it curious that you're putting in so much effort. What are you trying to hide?"
As soon as he finished speaking, murmurs spread through the crowd. Some began to show expressions of hesitation and doubt, while General Hu seized the opportunity to incite further discord. "Everyone, do you really believe that a third-rate Football Player can save us all?"
This guy just wouldn't let up!
Just when the atmosphere became tense again, Zhao Mengmeng suddenly stood up and shouted, "You're the fraud! You didn't help at all; you were hiding away!"
Her words caused General Hu's expression to change dramatically. He tried to retort but found himself unable to justify his actions. At that moment, Li Fengzhu coldly interjected, "That's enough. Vice Chairman Hu, if you keep stirring trouble, don't blame us for throwing you out."
General Hu fell silent, retreating back into the corner with a sullen look, but his resentful gaze remained fixed on me, sending shivers down my spine.
Though the battle had ended, a new crisis seemed to be brewing...
**Bang!**
A muffled sound echoed from a distance. We all turned our heads to look, only to see outside the stadium a dense mass of figures—no, it was a horde of zombies!
