In the Red Army Command Center, the atmosphere was charged with urgency. Within the expansive tent, communications soldiers hurried in and out, relaying vital information. Personnel were busily typing away at their computers, while phone communications buzzed incessantly.
At that moment, a group of strategists was gathered around a massive screen displaying the operational map, constantly adjusting and issuing new orders. The geographical layout on the screen showed the blue side resembling a vast fishing net, while the red side appeared to be dwindling, akin to fish on the verge of being caught.
For the Blue Army, this military exercise was a must-win scenario; victory seemed assured. But how could the Red Army concede so easily?
Suddenly, a Communications Soldier burst into the tent and quickly approached the strategists, saluting as he reported.
“Report!” His loud voice interrupted the ongoing tactical discussions.
“What is it?” One of the strategists turned with a hint of impatience.
“The Blue Army is launching an assault on our command position!” The Communications Soldier's words struck like thunder.
“What!?”
His announcement landed like a depth charge, plunging the entire command center into silence. Even the previously confident strategists were left stunned. How could their meticulously arranged command post be discovered by the enemy so quickly? It seemed impossible; there had been no reports of any units ambushing or going missing!
As the strategists pondered this shocking news, a voice emerged from behind the Communications Soldier.
“Which unit is it? How many troops have they sent?”
The soldier turned casually to find that it was an older man asking the question. Initially thinking he was just another strategist, he glanced at the man's shoulder insignia. Upon closer inspection, he was taken aback; the camouflage uniform bore dark green epaulettes adorned with golden leaves and three golden stars—clearly indicative of a rank far beyond his own aspirations. Instantly, he stood at attention and saluted.
“Commander!”
The man in front of them, a middle-aged man in his fifties, was the commander of the Red Army, Commander Xu. He had a square face and a balding head, and his expression appeared somewhat weary. His plain and unassuming appearance made him look like an ordinary neighbor rather than the supreme commander of the Red Army, if not for the insignia on his camouflage uniform.
Commander Xu waved his hand dismissively at the somewhat reckless Dah Tou Bing and continued to inquire, “So, how many people did the enemy send? Which unit are they from?”
The communications soldier hesitated at the commander’s question, glancing nervously at the nearby staff officers, unsure of how to respond.
One of the staff officers could no longer bear to watch and stepped forward, scolding, “Stop stammering! The Commander is asking you—report!”
“Yes!” The Dah Tou Bing straightened up and confidently replied to Commander Xu, “Report, Commander! The enemy has sent only one person!”
“What!?”
“One person?”
How could this be possible… The group of staff officers was thrown into complete disarray, and even Commander Xu was shocked and found it hard to believe.
How could one person launch an assault on the Blue Army Command Center? After all, the perimeter of the Blue Army Command Center was heavily fortified…
Just then.
Boom! Boom—
The sound of violent explosions erupted outside the tent, and even the ground beneath the command post shook from the impact of the shells.
“It’s the suppression howitzer outside the command post!” one of the staff officers exclaimed in alarm.
As soon as the words were spoken, a group of staff officers seemed to sense a significant event, quickly surrounding Xu Commander and striding out of the command tent.
The moment they stepped outside, they were greeted by a spectacular sight!
On both sides, the artillery positions fired in unison, shells soaring through the air and crashing down onto a wide expanse of open land several thousand meters away. The ground erupted in a series of powerful explosions, sending clouds of fire and smoke billowing into the sky, scattering like mushrooms after a rainstorm across the mountains.
"What’s happening?" one staff officer asked a nearby Company Commander who had just rushed over to report.
"Report: Up ahead... we are currently providing fire coverage for the artillery positions!" the soldier replied.
"What?!" The staff officer barely had time to process this information. "Commander, should we stop...?"
"Wait."
Without hesitation, Xu Commander snatched a soldier's binoculars and quickly moved to the front to observe the situation. The other staff officers followed suit, eager to see what was going on.
In that open field several kilometers away, shells rained down like heavy rain, shaking the earth and filling the air with smoke and dust.
But amidst the explosions and smoke, a figure suddenly burst forth from the haze!
Everyone squinted to get a better look, nearly dropping their jaws in disbelief. It was a person, but even more astonishing was that this individual was riding on a massive Big Black Pig weighing three to four hundred kilograms!
Perched atop the specially saddled Big Black Pig was a soldier clad in camouflage fatigues of the Chinese People's Liberation Army!
Everyone gasped in shock!
The Big Black Pig charged wildly, carrying the soldier on its back, racing towards this direction. Explosions erupted around them, yet the pig always managed to dodge or sprint past just in time, its speed comparable to that of a galloping black stallion!
Shells continuously fell behind and in front of this man and pig duo, but they remained undaunted. Especially the soldier riding the pig, clad in a steel helmet with a camouflaged face, showed no sign of being intimidated by the fierce artillery fire. His gaze was fixed ahead, fearless, as if in his eyes there was only one belief: to advance relentlessly through the barrage!
The dazzling explosions seemed merely to accentuate the image of this soldier charging on his pig. The scene appeared comical, yet no one could laugh; even Commander Xu couldn't help but grip his binoculars tightly, worried for the brave soldier charging forward.
Boom!
Another round of artillery fire erupted, and a series of explosions detonated in front of the man and pig in the open field!
For a while, the smoke and flames engulfed the soldier riding the pig, but about half a minute later, that figure burst forth from the thick smoke again. This time, however, the soldier crouched lower on the pig's back, his determination even more resolute!
Commander Xu, who had been anxiously watching, felt his blood boil with excitement as he lowered his binoculars and let out a sigh of relief.
"He's a good soldier," he praised sincerely. It had been a long time since he had seen such a brave and fearless warrior.
Amidst the explosions, everyone watched as his figure drew closer. Shells exploded one after another around him—one thousand meters, five hundred meters, three hundred meters, one hundred meters, fifty meters—until finally ten meters away. As he charged forward…
The fierce wild boar suddenly knocked several soldiers from the Guard Company aside and even kicked a few more away. A single pig managed to hold back a group of soldiers while the soldier in camouflage rolled off its back and fired his gun rapidly at those from the Guard Company trying to seize him. Smoke rose from their bodies; equipped with laser receivers, they were deemed casualties according to military exercise regulations.
The soldier dashed like lightning to Commander Xu and his staff, aiming his gun at Commander Xu. The two armed soldiers beside Commander Xu immediately drew their pistols at him. Quick as lightning, Commander Xu raised one guard's pistol just as it fired with a bang.
The soldier who fired was reprimanded by Commander Xu's glare and lowered his weapon. Commander Xu then turned to face the soldier standing before him, who still calmly aimed his Type 95 rifle at him as if he didn’t regard the earlier shot as real.
"Don't move! You are captured!" declared the soldier in camouflage uniform.
“Hmm, well done, very impressive,” Commander Xu said, nodding in satisfaction as he surveyed the area with his hands clasped behind his back. “With so many of my men here, why are you so certain I would surrender?”
The soldier immediately unfastened his camouflage uniform, revealing a belt of explosives wrapped around his waist.
A murmur of shock rippled through the crowd, and some even considered rushing forward to subdue this soldier who was willing to take them all down with him. Commander Xu was moved; regardless of whether the explosives were real or not, this act reminded him of the reconnaissance veterans who had fought alongside him during the Vietnam Counteroffensive Campaign.
“Alright, alright,” Commander Xu nodded, genuinely impressed. “I am now your prisoner; you have successfully dismantled our Red Army's command center! I want to know your unit number.”
“I’m sorry, but I am a soldier,” the man replied, remaining resolute and expressionless.
Commander Xu smiled and studied this fellow closely. Despite the camouflage paint on his face, he felt a deep admiration for him. He said gently, “Well done, you have become the hero of this military exercise. You have already—”
Before Commander Xu could finish his sentence, the soldier holding the gun suddenly swayed and began to collapse.
Nearby guards rushed forward to catch him and checked his body, discovering several shrapnel wounds on his back. They quickly reported to Commander Xu, “Commander, he’s been hit!”
“Quick! Get him to the Military District Hospital!” Commander Xu ordered urgently. “Use a helicopter! We can’t let anything happen to him!”
“Yes, sir!”
