A few days later, a new post appeared in my social circle. The image was a photo of me and my partner at a high-end restaurant, accompanied by the caption: "Only reality can define purity." Shortly after, Lin Zhiyuan posted a selfie with Song Ya on the African savannah, both beaming with smiles. His caption read: "Only freedom can define reality." Upon seeing this, I merely smiled faintly and handed my phone to Li Ruobing: "They really are in sync."
"It seems he genuinely believes he is free," Li Ruobing replied in a flat tone, though a glint of sharpness flickered in her eyes. "However, the little freedom you granted him, shouldn't it be reined in a bit?"
I didn't answer directly; instead, I casually flipped open the schedule on the table and spoke nonchalantly: "Song Ya’s mouth should serve more than just making people happy. I need a more detailed background check on her. Also, look into the people at the foundation and see how many flaws there are in her 'network'."
"Understood, I'll take care of it right away," Li Ruobing said before turning to leave.
I picked up the photo again and scrutinized Song Ya's smile. "Love without constraints..." I murmured, a manager Leng smile tugging at my lips. "Let’s see how pure your love can remain once I reclaim those constraints." I have always been decisive, especially when it comes to cleaning up messes; I never drag my feet or show mercy. "First, let's deal with Lin Zhiyuan's account." I stood in the center of the office, my tone as manager Leng as ice. "That financial support he receives is funded by the company’s charity foundation, right?"
Li Ruobing nodded slightly from the side. "That's correct. It’s a fixed monthly amount, officially labeled as 'Overseas Volunteer Special Subsidy.' However, in reality, you have been using your personal account to cover his expenses."
A manager Leng smile crept onto my lips as a mocking light flashed in my eyes. "Very well. From now on, stop the subsidies. Revoke my personal account's transfer permissions as well. Doesn’t he want freedom? Let him truly experience what it’s like without constraints."
"Understood." Li Ruobing lowered her head to jot down the instructions. "And what about Song Ya?"
I turned to look out the window, arms crossed over my chest, a sharp glint in my gaze. "Issue her a transfer order under the pretext that the company has needs. Send her to the Myanmar Branch." My tone was indifferent, as if discussing an ordinary personnel change. "Let her learn that the company’s resources are not for her to use at will."
After hesitating for a moment, Li Ruobing asked quietly, "Should we specify the reason?" I turned back to her with a manager Leng smile on my lips. "No need; she’s smart enough to understand this is my 'lesson' for her."
Days later, Lin Zhiyuan opened his phone as usual to pay for his campsite fees but was shocked to find that his balance had nearly been wiped clean. Thinking it was a system error, he quickly contacted customer service at the bank. The response he received felt like a thunderbolt: "Your account privileges have been frozen and cannot be used." At the same time, his personal card was also deactivated along with all living expenses that I had been covering.
"How could this happen..." Lin Zhiyuan slumped down inside the simple tent at the campsite, staring helplessly at his insufficient balance. Instinctively, he reached for his phone to message me but found that my profile picture had gone dark.
"Have you managed to get in touch with your people?" He anxiously turned to Song Ya. Her expression was equally grim. Just hours earlier, she had received an email from headquarters notifying her that due to "company strategic adjustments," she needed to immediately report to the Myanmar Branch for an "urgent project."
"I've been transferred."
Song Ya spoke manager Leng ly, her voice laced with unmistakable anger for the first time. "Transferred?" Lin Zhiyuan frowned. "Why? Isn’t this project still ongoing...?"
"What do you think?" Song Ya shot back at him with a mocking smile on her face. "Can’t you see? Leng Xue is taking back everything she gave."
Lin Zhiyuan fell silent.
For the first time, he realized that what he called "freedom" had been nothing more than my charity from the very beginning. Without my funding and resources, everything he had in Africa, even his basic living expenses, would be out of the question.
Song Ya let out a manager Leng laugh, stood up, and began to pack her belongings. "Mr. Lin, your ideals are indeed grand. But don't forget who provided the resources for this project. This time, we are both in this together; consider it a lesson she has given you."
"But aren't you using this opportunity to pave your own way as well?" Lin Zhiyuan retorted stubbornly.
Song Ya paused her movements and looked at him manager Leng ly, her eyes filled with a mocking chill. "That's right, I have used her resources. But at least I understand that these things belong to her, not to me. What about you? You’ve always thought you had freed yourself from her constraints, but little did you know she merely loosened her grip to show you just how naive you truly are."
