A few days later, Song Ya set off from Africa, flying to the Myanmar Branch. The people at the camp were buzzing with speculation about her sudden transfer, mostly expressing their regret: "She’s so talented, how could she be reassigned out of the blue?" In desperation, Lin Zhiyuan finally picked up his phone, attempting to contact me. " manager Leng, Lin Zhiyuan just sent you an email," Li Ruobing said calmly as she stood in front of me. "He mentioned the previous dispute in his letter and hopes to meet with you to talk."
I took the phone and glanced at the email content casually. In the letter, Lin Zhiyuan's tone was polite and humble, filled with hints of probing and flattery towards me. "Now you know how to lower your head?" I scoffed as I set the phone down. "Let him stew for a couple of days; let him truly experience life without me." "Understood," Li Ruobing replied as she exited, a barely noticeable smile playing on her lips.
Lin Zhiyuan's email remained ruthlessly ignored for several days, and he was almost ready to give up hope. However, fate offered him an unexpected opportunity during a dinner at the camp. Emma Wilson, one of the major sponsors of the volunteer project, exuded charm and grace as she approached Lin Zhiyuan. After exchanging a few pleasantries, she showed great interest in him.
"I’ve heard you’re a particularly thoughtful young man," Emma said, taking a sip of red wine while regarding him with a meaningful appreciation. "This land needs ambitious people like you." Lin Zhiyuan felt an unprecedented sense of importance. He understood that Emma was not just a sponsor; she had access to a vast array of business resources. This was a chance for him to turn things around—a way to break free from my control.
Weeks later, Lin Zhiyuan transformed into Emma's sponsored "Special Volunteer Ambassador." He appeared in promotional videos for the project, giving interviews where he spoke passionately about his ideals in philanthropy, quickly becoming the center of attention. Through Emma's connections, he collaborated with several international media outlets to produce a documentary about life as a volunteer in Africa.
In front of the camera, he confidently declared, "I have finally found my true value. No one can define my future."
When I saw these news reports in my office, a manager Leng smile crept across my face. "Emma Wilson," I murmured her name softly, my gaze icy. "What an unruly woman." Li Ruobing stood beside me, handing over an investigation report: "Most of Emma's assets have direct or indirect ties to our group."
"Interestingly enough," she continued, "her approach towards Lin Zhiyuan likely aims at obtaining company secrets that you control." I flipped through the report quickly before manager Leng ly closing the document. "A woman who exploits philanthropy as a guise to plunder resources now wants to use someone I discarded as leverage against me."
"Do you want me to cut off cooperation?" Li Ruobing asked. My eyes were as manager Leng as ice: "Not only should we cut ties but also make her aware of how foolish this choice is."
My counterattack came faster than Emma had anticipated. Through a series of meticulous maneuvers within the group, I withdrew all funding related to Emma. These funds were her lifeline; without them, her business soon fell into serious financial trouble.
Within just a month, Emma's company announced bankruptcy.
The media commented, "Overexpansion and a broken financial chain led to the downfall of this queen of philanthropy." Meanwhile, Lin Zhiyuan lost all his support in this collapse. After Emma's bankruptcy, he faced neglect in the projects, lacking financial backing and falling into difficulties once again.
