Li Yingxue was just about to spit out the things in her mouth. The mere thought of them made her feel extremely nauseous. How could she have been so careless during a phone call, allowing someone to hand her something and then putting it directly into her mouth? It was indeed a very strange situation, and anyone would have reacted similarly. She never expected this to happen to her, and thankfully, what she had put in her mouth was just a piece of candy. If it had been something else, it could have turned out to be quite unfortunate.
However, having that candy in her mouth still felt incredibly awkward. Although it posed no danger, the person who had given it to her made her feel uncomfortable. Earlier, she had hoped he would say something to her, but in the end, he hadn’t uttered a single word, leaving her feeling embarrassed. Just thinking about that moment made her feel a surge of frustration.
To her surprise, he appeared before her again at that moment and spoke those words. It was clear that he had prepared this and had handed it to her himself. He must have carried such things with him all along, which meant he remembered her habits after all these years apart. While it was evident he hadn’t forgotten her quirks, it only fueled her anger.
Yet there seemed to be no place around to dispose of the candy; she could only endure and let it slowly dissolve in her mouth. Faced with this situation, she felt the need to say something; otherwise, she would feel humiliated. After all, even though nothing overtly significant had happened between them before, they both harbored deep-seated anger inside.
Thus, unable to hold back any longer, Li Yingxue spoke up first. “I wonder if your appearance here today is a coincidence or if you intentionally came looking for me. If it’s the latter, then I really need to consider what your intentions are. If you claim it’s a coincidence, perhaps I could believe that; after all, for someone of your status to be here isn’t entirely surprising.”
Xu Shen replied, “How can you even say such a thing? Do you really think I would come here specifically to find you? That’s quite a joke! I’m here on business and happened to have some matters to attend to. I didn’t expect to run into you when I stepped out to use the restroom. If I had known it was you, I wouldn’t have approached at all. Originally, I was just going to the restroom when I noticed a beautiful woman here and couldn’t help but come over. You seemed like you were searching for something in a bit of a frenzy, so I casually struck up a conversation. But I didn’t expect you to be so reckless! When someone hands you something meant for someone else, you just take it without looking and shove it into your mouth? That’s quite concerning! If what I had thrown at you wasn’t candy but something else entirely, just imagine what the consequences could have been.”
