"When the princess rests, Subordinate needs to wait outside for orders."
Xia Xinyan frowned. "Did you kneel all night?"
"Yes."
"Get up."
The man nodded a few times before slowly rising, his clothes impeccably arranged.
Before he could speak, Xia Xinyan quickly interjected, "You should hurry back to your own time."
He immediately knelt again. "Does the princess think Subordinate has not done well?"
"..." Xia Xinyan really wanted to pry open his head to see how it was constructed.
Someone was speaking on the stairs; it seemed to be an elderly woman from upstairs. If she saw such a strange person, she would surely have something to say. Xia Xinyan pulled him inside and swiftly closed the iron door behind her.
"Why are you still here?"
"Subordinate only follows the princess, unless you grant me death..." As he spoke, he had already knelt on the ground, holding a long knife up to her.
Xia Xinyan felt her nerves twitch again and took a deep breath to calm herself. "What is your name?"
"Subordinate has no name."
Indeed, slaves do not have names. Xia Xinyan's eyes twinkled as she smiled, "From now on, you shall be called Lu Muqing."
"Thank you, Princess, for the name." He spoke as he knelt down again.
Xia Xinyan quickly added, "Lu Muqing, please don't kneel to me anymore, or I might just sell you. This is three thousand years later; there are not so many formalities. I need to go to work now, so just stay here and wait for me to come back."
"Understood." He gave a deep bow.
"..." In a few days, I should find a way to send him off as an artifact.
When Xia Xinyan returned home that evening, she was surprised to find the place spotless.
The shoes that had been scattered all over the floor were neatly placed in the cabinet, and the areas that hadn’t been cleaned for days were now dust-free. On the coffee table were several large plates arranged as if for a ritual. It suddenly dawned on her that the bananas and grapes were things she had bought a couple of days ago.
Looking closer, she saw Lu Muqing with his back to her in the kitchen, vigorously slapping a large blue fish. The fish was so big it occupied her entire stove...
Xia Xinyan twitched her mouth; where on earth did he get this fish? The oil in the pot was nearly hot enough, and he was about to toss the un-gutted fish directly into it. Unable to watch any longer, Xia Xinyan hurriedly stopped him: "Let me do it."
Lu Muqing immediately knelt down. "Subordinate is at fault; I have not learned how to cook after all this time."
Xia Xinyan quickly helped him up. "It's fine; it's been ages, and ingredients have changed." As she worked on scaling and gutting the fish, Lu Muqing stood beside her, watching intently with a serious expression in his eyes.
Xia Xinyan felt a chill run down her spine as he looked at her. In her distraction, she hadn't noticed that the sharp fin of the large fish had cut her hand. She quickly turned on the faucet to rinse the wound, but her blood seemed to clot poorly, and it continued to flow for quite some time.
Lu Muqing suddenly grabbed her hand and brought it to his mouth, enveloping it with warmth. His tongue gently traced over her skin, leaving Xia Xinyan momentarily stunned. Her face flushed a deep red, and she tried to pull her hand away, but he wouldn’t let go.
He continued to lick her wound for what felt like an eternity before finally releasing her. To her astonishment, the injury had completely healed! She stared in disbelief at the spot where blood had just flowed, now devoid of even a scar.
Just as she was about to thank him, he suddenly collapsed onto the ground with a thud.
“Hey! Hey! Wake up!” Xia Xinyan called out. Lu Muqing's heartbeat and pulse were steady, and his breathing was even; it seemed like he had simply fallen asleep, yet no matter how much she called, he wouldn’t wake up.
