The biting cold wind sliced across my cheeks like a knife, causing me to shiver involuntarily as I instinctively wrapped my arms tighter around myself. 0

Our group of over a dozen travelers sat huddled together at the campsite at the foot of the snow-capped mountain. The campfire crackled and popped, casting flickering light on everyone’s frostbitten faces. 0

"This mountain is truly eerie!" Our guide, Brother Wang, a burly man in his forties with dark skin, looked like someone who had spent years making a living in the highlands. 0

Brother Wang lowered his voice mysteriously, exhaling a puff of white mist. 0

His face flickered in the dancing firelight, giving him an especially uncanny appearance. 0

"They say there’s a kind of man-eating goat that lives in these mountains, preying on solitary travelers. It can bite a person's head off in one go!" 0

Brother Wang's voice was deep and hoarse, as if it were being squeezed from the depths of his throat. 0

As he spoke, he gestured with his hands, as if the man-eating goat were standing right before us. 0

"The goat's eyes are blood-red, even redder than this fire! Its fur is black and coarse, like steel needles! The scariest part is its cry; it sounds just like a wailing ghost, sending chills down your spine!" 0

Brother Wang vividly described each detail, making every word send shivers through us. 0

Though I knew this was merely a legend, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of fear in this peculiar moment and setting. 0

"Recently, a climbing team encountered an attack by these man-eating goats on this very mountain. Every member perished without exception..." 0

Brother Wang continued, his tone laced with mystery and eeriness. "When the bodies of those climbers were found, they had been reduced to mere skeletons, their deaths incredibly tragic..." 0

"Ugh..." 0

The backpack still contained the lamb I had bought from the residents at the foot of the snow-capped mountain. I gagged slightly, feeling my stomach churn violently. 0

"Brother Wang, please stop, it's really scary." 0

A hand suddenly patted my back gently, and then I was pulled into an embrace. 0

It was my boyfriend, Yang Mengfan. 0

"Don't be afraid, Mengmeng. It's all just legends," he said softly, shielding me behind him while gently massaging my shoulders in an attempt to calm my nerves. 0

I leaned tightly against him, feeling the warmth radiating from his body, but I still couldn't shake off the chill of the snowy mountains. 0

"Haha, this little girl is really timid!" 0

Some members of the climbing team noticed my state and teased me, bursting into laughter. 0

"These are just stories passed down from older generations; even a three-year-old wouldn't be scared by them! They can't be taken seriously!" 0

Brother Wang explained casually, but I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something subtly unsettling behind his smile. 0

My unease remained strong. 0

"Mengfan, we want to head back to the tent first. Will you come with me?" I asked, a hint of anxiety in my voice. "Are you really that scared? Isn't it safer to stay with everyone right now?" Yang Mengfan teased, playfully tapping the tip of my nose, his eyes filled with affection. 0

Unable to resist my request, Yang Mengfan accompanied me back to the tent to rest. The three climbers in our team were quite professional; they managed to set up the tent for everyone efficiently. 0

We had started our climb early in the day, and although it was only noon, I was already exhausted. After eating a little, I drifted off into a deep sleep. 0

In a half-awake state, I felt my body swaying slightly. Suddenly, a strange sound echoed from afar, jolting me awake. 0

"Meh... meh..." 0

The sound was low and hoarse, intermittent, reverberating through the vast snowy mountains, making it particularly eerie. 0

That sound... 0

I shot up in alarm. 0

It was identical to the cry of the man-eating goat that Brother Wang had just described! 0

Instinctively, I reached out for Yang Mengfan's arm but found he was not beside me. To my horror, there was a pool of red blood in the tent! 0

My mind went blank as I hurriedly rolled over and scrambled towards the entrance of the tent, just as someone was coming inside. 0
