With the location decided, Ye Ya chose to register the business license under the name Tao Momo. Her reputation in Ning Cheng was as bad as stinky tofu, and if anyone found out, her life would likely become far from peaceful.
Tao Ba was aware that his daughter was opening a store and provided Tao Momo with the utmost support regarding inventory. Ye Ya only needed to handle the subsequent management issues, and with a little one on the way, it wasn't suitable for her to engage in heavy labor.
From renovations to stocking up, everything was completed in about a month. Ye Ya looked at this store, the fruit of her labor, and couldn't help but touch her slightly protruding belly. Her future life with the baby depended on this shop, and she felt filled with confidence about what lay ahead.
The new store was named Moya Fashion Store, marking the gradual unfolding of another legend belonging to Ye Ya.
On opening day, knowing that Ye Ya was pregnant and worried she might be overwhelmed, Tao Ba and Tao Ma came to help distribute flyers. Miss Tao even set up a sewing station at the entrance, successfully attracting a large crowd. Ye Ya explained the styles of clothing to each customer and highlighted the unique features of their Moya store, ensuring that everyone who entered felt they were receiving exceptional service.
By the end of the first day, they successfully booked fifty pieces of clothing. Although their sales method didn't require full payment upfront, customers chose their styles and had them tailored individually, with the remaining balance due upon collection.
This sales approach received a positive response on the very first day of business. Ye Ya believed that with her and Tao Momo working together, success was inevitable. Moreover, they had prepared extensively and conducted market research before opening; hard work would not go unrewarded.
At the end of the day, Ye Ya carefully calculated profits using a calculator. After deducting costs, they had made around one thousand yuan, which excited everyone.
Tao Ba even prepared a lavish dinner to celebrate, while Tao Mama cautiously reminded them which dishes were unsuitable for pregnant women and which were safe. Tao Momo helped out in the kitchen.
Watching them, Ye Ya envied Tao Momo. A warm family like theirs was all that mattered; it didn’t have to be wealthy—just being together with loved ones was enough.
After dinner, Ye Ya initially wanted to help wash the dishes but was stopped by Tao Mama. “Xiao Ya, you don’t need to be so polite. I’ve heard Mo Mo talk about you so much; she treats you like a half-daughter. By the way, I think your idea is great! Achieving such results on your first day means you’ll need to hire someone; otherwise, you won’t be able to manage it all while taking care of the baby.”
Tao Mama understood how challenging it was for a woman to carry a child; she had seen news reports about Ye Ya and felt increasingly sympathetic toward her.
“Mo Mo and I had planned to hire someone before but haven’t found anyone suitable yet,” Ye Ya admitted. She had initially worried about poor business and intended to manage things herself with Mo Mo but hadn’t expected such success on their first day.
“By the way, my cousin's daughter just graduated from high school and hasn’t found a job yet. How about we let her come help you?” Tao Ma suddenly recalled that her relative had asked for assistance finding work a few days ago. This could help them while also solving their staffing issue.
Moreover, since Mo Mo was cherished by their Tao family, they naturally wanted to ensure she wasn’t overworked. Although they couldn’t provide her with material wealth in life, she had grown up in their loving care.
“Mom, are you talking about Xiao Yu?” Tao Momo chimed in after finishing washing the dishes.
"Yes, your aunt called me a few days ago asking for a job. Isn't this perfect, Xiao Ya? What do you think?" Tao Mama still respected Ye Ya's opinion very much.
"Sure, I have no objections. Just ask her to come work here," Ye Ya replied without hesitation. After all, Mo Mo had a stake in the store, and Tao Ba and Tao Ma had helped a lot.
When Ye Ya got home, it was already close to midnight. She had originally planned to take a taxi back by herself, but Tao Ba insisted on driving her.
Although she was exhausted today, she felt a deep sense of fulfillment. Moya Fashion Store had successfully opened, and life for her and her baby would not be so difficult anymore. Thinking about it all made it worthwhile.
"Baby, you must be tired too. You need to be strong like Mommy. After your bath, Mommy will go rest," Ye Ya thought to herself. Ever since she had the child, she truly felt she was no longer alone. When she was tired, she could talk to her baby, believing that the little one could hear her words.
The next day at noon, Xiao Yu arrived at Moya Fashion Store just as a group of customers had left. Ye Ya and Tao Momo finally found a moment to eat. Tao Momo piled a generous amount of meat from her bowl onto Ye Ya's plate. "Xiao Ya, Dad makes the best braised pork! Eat more; you're working so hard now, and the baby needs to behave so Mommy doesn’t have it too tough."
Ye Ya found it amusing when she saw a young girl standing at the door with a bag on her back. She looked at Tao Momo and pointed, "Mo Mo, is that Xiao Yu?"
Tao Momo turned around with a mouthful of braised pork and exclaimed, "Xiao Yu! You’re here! Come in; have you eaten yet? There’s plenty of food Dad made."
Xiao Yu stood at the entrance, looking at the decor and layout of the place. She felt out of place as a country girl and worriedly asked, "Sister Mo, do I really fit in here? It looks so upscale."
"It’s fine; you’ll fit right in. After we finish eating, I’ll get you changed into some clothes that will make you look completely different," Tao Momo reassured her. "But since you're here now, you need to work hard. She's your sister Ya; you should help her out since she's expecting a baby and can’t be too burdened, okay?" Tao Momo handed her a pair of chopsticks while expressing her concerns for Ye Ya, who had been busy since opening the store.
Xiao Yu nodded firmly and said earnestly, "Mo Jie, Ya Jie, I will work very seriously."
"Xiao Yu, don’t be so nervous; just take your time learning. Let’s eat first," Ye Ya said as she saw Xiao Yu and remembered how flustered she had been during her first visit to Ye Family—feeling completely out of place.
With Xiao Yu's help, Ye Ya and Tao Momo felt a bit relieved. Ye Ya diligently took note of customer sizes and needs. Although their approach was more labor-intensive than typical clothing stores, Ye Ya never intended for her fashion store to be just another clothing shop; she wanted to create a brand that truly belonged to her.
Tao Momo needed a larger platform for development; it would be a waste of her talent otherwise. Ye Ya was very confident about this.
The baby was already over four months old, and business in the store began to stabilize. Ye Ya took some time off to go to the hospital for a check-up. This time she didn’t dare be careless; she even put on some makeup before heading to the hospital because she didn’t want anyone recognizing her.
Better safe than sorry.
Arriving at the hospital, Ye Ya could vaguely see the shape of her child on the ultrasound. Although it was still not fully formed, there was a mass visible. The doctor pointed it out to her, saying that it was the developing baby, and that everything looked healthy.
For a while now, Ye Ya had been anxious, but hearing the doctor's words finally allowed her to relax. She had been worried that her busy schedule might affect the baby's development and that she had been neglecting it.
When she returned to the store, she noticed that Xiao Yu was becoming more adept at handling things, even skillfully recommending products to customers. Watching satisfied customers leave with their bags gave Ye Ya a sense of accomplishment.
"You're back! What did the doctor say?" Tao Momo asked as she finished attending to the last customer and hurried over to Ye Ya. Xiao Yu had already poured a glass of water for her.
"The baby is developing well; there's no need to worry."
"That's great! The most important thing is for you to give birth safely. You don't have to stress too much about the store; everything is on track now." Tao Momo understood how hard Ye Ya worked, but this time was different—she wasn't alone anymore.
"Yes, in two months we’ll be entering winter, and we need to launch new styles. There's a shop on the street that has already started imitating us. We need to adjust our sales strategy according to the market so that they can never replicate us. If we want to develop steadily, we have to stay one step ahead."
Hearing Ye Ya's analysis, Tao Momo nodded in agreement. "Damn it, that shop is really shameless! But our customers still say they feel our clothes fit them best; even if they’re a bit more expensive, they choose us."
"Of course! Those who choose our clothes may not belong to the upper class, but even regular white-collar workers hope to wear brands. It's not true that cheaper is always better," Ye Ya said as she took a sip of water and continued.
"Momo, I can't compete with you in business. Whatever you suggest, I’ll follow," Tao Momo admitted. After witnessing how Ye Ya bargained with their landlord and strategized for market sales, she had no objections left. Whatever Ye Ya proposed for selling, she would go along with it.
"Momo, do you think you need to hire another helper for altering clothes? It would be good to have an extra pair of hands." Several times, Tao Momo had worked overtime just to finish making clothes for customers, even urging her to go home and rest. She knew Tao Momo was worried that not getting enough rest might affect her baby.
In this life, apart from her mother and aunt, Tao Momo was the person who treated her best, and she felt sorry for how hard she worked.
"Hiring someone isn't easy; I need to take my time finding a good assistant. Don't worry about it; I know what I'm doing," Tao Momo waved her hand dismissively. Sometimes between sisters, a glance could convey understanding without words.
This friendship was irreplaceable by anything else.
As days passed by in a busy yet fulfilling manner, Ye Ya's belly grew larger. Tao Momo successfully found an assistant she was satisfied with, and business was officially on track. Meanwhile, Ye Ya was planning new strategies for winter.
At the Lu Family home, Lu Tianyang sat at the dining table feeling somewhat restless. He wanted to leave but was shot a fierce glare by Du Huiru, signaling him not to go anywhere.
He felt a bit irritated. If he had known that his mother had arranged another boring blind date today, he definitely wouldn't have come back for dinner.
The girl was the daughter of the Bai Group, looking at him with a shy expression. Lu Tianyang didn't like these sheltered flowers; he worried that even if he raised his voice slightly, it would scare these delicate darlings.
A face involuntarily surged in his mind—a woman who was arrogant, rude, and conceited. Damn it, even though he hated her in his heart, why did she keep coming to mind? It was none of his business whether she was alive or dead. Moreover, a woman like her, with the vitality of a wildflower, how could she possibly die so easily?
Ms. Bai watched Lu Tianyang lost in thought and wondered if she had done something wrong. "Brother Lu, why aren't you saying anything?"
At that moment, Du Huiru stepped on Lu Tianyang's foot under the table, signaling him to speak. Lu Tianyang was already at his wit's end. "Mom, kicking me won't help. Ms. Bai, I'm very sorry; it's my fault for not being worthy of you."
With that said, Lu Tianyang stopped talking and left the dining table directly. Before leaving, he added, "Mom, if you keep arranging these boring dinners for me, I won't come back for meals anymore."
This statement infuriated Du Huiru, making her regret having such an unfilial son; her face turned pale.
After sending the guests away, she was practically fuming in the living room. He was already thirty and still didn't have a steady partner—how could she not worry as a mother?
Old Ye Rong sighed softly. "Forget it; let him be. It wouldn't be good to force him not to come back for dinner. If only Wan Jing were here; how did they break up back then?" The old man looked regretful.
