Thinking back to the earlier scene, Lu Tianyang felt a rush of anxiety. A nurse approached him, saying, "Are you a family member of the patient? Please come and complete the admission procedures."
Since he had carried Ye Ya into the hospital, his clothes were stained with blood. The nurse was startled by his appearance, even though he was quite handsome.
"You might want to clean yourself up first; you look quite frightening," the nurse cautiously suggested.
Lu Tianyang glanced at himself and was taken aback. Anyone who didn't know him might think he had just come from a gang fight. He quickly made a call to Zuo Kai, asking him to send over a clean set of clothes.
After completing the admission procedures, Lu Tianyang returned to the area outside the delivery room. Inside, Ye Ya's heart-wrenching cries echoed. Why hadn’t she given birth yet? Each scream pierced Lu Tianyang's heart like a dagger, making him anxious as he paced back and forth outside the door.
Inside the delivery room, Ye Ya gripped the handrails of the delivery bed tightly, her abdomen contracting in waves of pain that nearly made her faint.
"Take deep breaths and push. The baby's position is slightly off; if it doesn’t come out soon, we may have to perform a cesarean section," the doctor said. Hearing this made Ye Ya anxious. "Doctor, let me try again."
"Ah!" Ye Ya gritted her teeth, but it felt as if the baby was resisting her efforts and refusing to come out. As she grew weaker, the doctor stepped outside.
Seeing the doctor emerge, Lu Tianyang rushed over. "Doctor, how is she? Are both mother and child okay?"
"The situation isn't optimistic. The baby's position is incorrect, and the mother appears to be exhausted. I recommend a cesarean section," the doctor replied.
"Then let's hurry with the surgery! Doctor, please ensure both mother and child are safe—I'll pay whatever it takes!" Lu Tianyang was frantic as Ye Ya's cries continued from inside.
"Please sign here on the consent form. By the way, what is your relation to the patient?" The doctor asked while handing over the surgery consent form.
"I'm her husband," Lu Tianyang answered without hesitation and signed his name.
Ye Ya heard that Lu Tianyang had agreed to the surgery and felt a surge of anger. "Doctor, I still want to try for a natural birth; it’s better for the baby."
Hearing Ye Ya's words, Lu Tianyang suppressed his anger and held her hand. "Be good, listen to the doctor. This is the best for both you and the baby. Don't be afraid; everything will be fine. I'll be waiting for you outside."
Lu Tianyang's words successfully convinced Ye Ya not to resist any longer, and soon she was taken into the operating room.
When Zuo Kai arrived at the hospital, he was startled by Lu Tianyang's appearance and nervously asked, "President, what happened?"
Lu Tianyang shot him a glare and took the coat from him. "Stop talking nonsense. By the way, go find a professional Postpartum Doula and a nutritionist, specifically for pregnant women and children."
The statement hit Zuo Kai like a torpedo, leaving him stunned. However, seeing Lu Tianyang's impatient demeanor, he didn't dare to ask further questions. He nodded and immediately went to handle what Lu Tianyang had instructed.
After about two hours, the surgery finally concluded. A series of cries caught Lu Tianyang's attention, and soon the doctor emerged holding a baby. "Congratulations! You have a healthy baby girl."
The little one had just arrived in this world, her features still not fully developed; she was wrinkled and waving her tiny hands while crying loudly. Lu Tianyang glanced at her and felt an overwhelming sense of warmth. His emotions were beyond words; suddenly becoming a father and facing such a tiny life left him somewhat at a loss.
"How is the mother?" Lu Tianyang asked.
"Both mother and child are safe. The mother hasn't woken up yet after the surgery," the doctor replied. "The baby will be placed in an incubator for now, but you can hold her tomorrow. Your wife is truly very strong." The doctor spoke sincerely; he had delivered many babies and knew that many women who could have given birth naturally chose cesarean sections due to unbearable pain, yet Ye Ya had insisted on natural delivery until the very end.
Of course, for the baby, natural birth was definitely better than a cesarean section.
"Thank you, doctor. Please take the best care of them; money is not a concern," Lu Tianyang said. "Also, please help me with a paternity test." At that moment, seeing the baby had already convinced him that she was his daughter; he just needed some evidence to counter whatever claims Ye Ya might make about their child.
With undeniable proof in hand, he thought to himself, let’s see how you’ll argue your way out of this, Ye Ya. You foolish woman, did I ever make you feel so wronged being with me?
Tao Mama had been trying to reach Ye Ya but couldn't get through until Lu Tianyang took her phone and saw that there were over twenty missed calls from Tao Mama. He quickly dialed back one of them.
“Xiao Ya, where are you? How is the baby?” Tao Mama was nearly frantic. Upon arriving at Ye Ya's home, the security guard informed her that Ye Ya had gone to the hospital alone, and after that, there was no news.
“Hello, Xiao Ya is fine, and she has given birth to a girl. Please don’t worry,” Lu Tianyang said, sensing the concern in her voice for Ye Ya.
He couldn’t help but shake his head at the thought of such a foolish woman being in a family like the Ye Family.
“Oh, that’s good to hear. May I ask who you are? Xiao Ya is really in trouble; which hospital are you at?” Tao Mama asked while holding the phone and wandering around with Tao Ba.
“We're at People's Hospital. I’m the father of the child, so please rest assured. Perhaps you can come by tomorrow to see Xiao Ya; she just had surgery and won’t wake up anytime soon.”
After hearing Lu Tianyang's words, there was a sudden silence on the other end of the line. Just when Lu Tianyang thought the call had dropped, an extremely dissatisfied voice came through: “I don’t know who you are, but you’ve made Xiao Ya suffer so much. Are you even a man?”
As a teacher, although Tao Mama was furious and wanted to give him a piece of her mind, she was at a loss for words.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know Xiao Ya was pregnant with my child; I only found out today. I will take responsibility for her, so please don’t worry.”
Yes, as a man, one must dare to take action. Although that night was merely an accident, the child was his, and he had to be responsible for it.
After hanging up the phone, Lu Tianyang returned to the hospital room. Ye Ya was still in a deep sleep, looking very weak after giving birth. Remembering that stormy night made him uneasy; what if she hadn’t met him? What if she hadn’t made it to the hospital in time? What would have happened?
He sighed softly and gently placed Ye Ya's hand under the blanket. “Ye Ya, oh Ye Ya, how should I even begin to describe you?”
How had she managed to live alone? He cursed himself; if he had been more serious when he last saw her from behind, perhaps he would have recognized her sooner and wouldn’t have let her suffer so much alone.
Time passed quietly as Lu Tianyang kept vigil in the hospital all night. The next morning, Ye Ya finally woke up. After surgery, her stomach still hurt. She turned her head slightly and noticed Lu Tianyang resting beside her bed. Had this man stayed with her all night in the hospital?
When Lu Tianyang realized she was awake, he felt an indescribable emotion swell within him; this woman always surprised him in ways he never expected.
"You’re awake! Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere? I’ll go call the doctor."
"Lu Tianyang, where is the baby? How is she?" Ye Ya's greatest concern was to know about her child's condition.
"The baby is fine. The doctor said she’s very healthy, and it’s a girl. The doctor will bring her over for you to see shortly." Lu Tianyang's earlier anger dissipated at this moment.
Upon hearing the news, Ye Ya finally felt at ease; as long as the baby was okay, that was all that mattered. She looked at Lu Tianyang and said, "Thank you so much for bringing me to the hospital last night. Could you please hand me my phone? I’ve already hired a postpartum doula, so there’s no need for you to stay."
Being overly polite, Lu Tianyang realized that his best manners were being tested by this woman. He was the father of her child, yet she wanted him to leave. Did she really dislike him that much?
"Ye Ya, let me tell you, I already know the child is mine, and I’ve had it confirmed. Don’t expect me to walk away from my child." Hearing this from Lu Tianyang made Ye Ya anxious; she moved and inadvertently tugged at her wound, causing her to frown in pain.
Lu Tianyang quickly pressed down on her shoulder. "My dear lady, please don’t make things worse for yourself. I’ll go call the doctor."
Ye Ya felt a mix of emotions; she hadn’t anticipated running into him last night—perhaps it was fate. But was he really preparing to fight her for custody of their child? In Ning Cheng, with the power of the Lu Family, even the courts would seem to favor him. Did she have any chance of standing against him?
The doctor arrived shortly and examined Ye Ya. Her condition was good; however, she still needed to be cautious with her wound and couldn’t eat just yet. Lu Tianyang listened intently to the doctor's instructions.
He sat beside her, watching this stubborn woman eye him warily, which left him both amused and exasperated. "Ye Ya, am I not as handsome as Jing Hao? Am I not wealthier than him? Why do you dislike me so much that you would even hide matters concerning our child from me?"
Listening to his words, Ye Ya didn’t know how to respond. Yes, he was more handsome than Jing Hao, richer and more powerful. But all these things felt like high walls separating her from happiness and freedom. She was genuinely scared and felt powerless against the whirlpool of a wealthy family.
"Lu Tianyang, please let me and our child go. I can’t aspire to your Lu Family."
"You can forget about it; I have a stake in this child too." Lu Tianyang wished he could knock some sense into her head to understand why she was being so stubborn.
Just then, the doctor entered holding the baby, interrupting their conversation. Lu Tianyang helped Ye Ya sit up; she still looked a bit weak. He held the baby in his arms and said, "Look at our child; isn’t she adorable? She’ll definitely grow up beautiful."
“Of course, my daughter is definitely the cutest little treasure. Come here, let Mommy hold you.” Ye Ya carefully took the small bundle from Lu Tianyang's hands. The tiny creature, full of tenacity, was finally safe in her arms.
This was the first time Lu Tianyang had seen Ye Ya's genuine smile. He realized that this woman, aside from her usual cold smirk, could smile so beautifully, like a lily blooming in the wind.
“What should we name our daughter? I need to consult a feng shui master to choose a good name.” Lu Tianyang, now a father for the first time, felt as if this sudden role had come out of nowhere, making him feel like he was dreaming.
“Warm as the morning light, my daughter’s name is Ye Chenxi. You don’t need to worry about such trivial matters.” Ye Ya didn’t even glance at Lu Tianyang, completely ignoring him as she held the baby close.
“What do you mean Ye Chenxi? It should clearly be Lu Chenxi. Xiao Ya, can you be reasonable? I am the child's father. Come on, let me hold her for a moment.” Lu Tianyang looked at the little one and felt his heart soften. He realized he was completely unprepared for this and that there was still so much to learn.
“It’s Ye Chenxi. I carried her, I gave birth to her. What effort did you contribute besides planting a seed?” Ye Ya looked at him as if he were a fool.
“If I hadn’t put in any effort, how could you have gotten pregnant with Ye Ya? How can you say such things in front of our child? You’re going to teach her wrong! Listen to me, let me hold her for a bit. You need to rest and not strain your wound. I’ve already hired a professional postpartum doula to take care of you.” Lu Tianyang felt helpless at her words. What did she mean by him not contributing? Could she really have done it all alone?
