At the dining table, Tao Momo was just about to grab a piece of chicken wing when Qi Fan snatched it up instead. Frustrated, she thought, how could he be so inconsiderate? Today was a special occasion; it was Chen Chen's full moon celebration at Ye Ya's house, and Momo had been wanting to teach this jerk a lesson.
Qi Fan hadn’t expected that among all the dishes on the table, he would end up clashing with her. He admitted to himself that it wasn’t intentional. That scoundrel Lu Tianyang was so eager to please Ye Ya that he couldn’t afford to offend her friends either. His favoritism was so blatant that Qi Fan had nothing to say about it.
He placed the chicken wing into Tao Momo’s bowl, thinking that would settle things. But of course, Miss Tao’s temper flared. She disregarded Qi Fan’s gesture and simply moved the chicken wing to the plate, opting instead for some greens.
At that moment, Tao Mama couldn’t hold back any longer. “Mo Mo, how can you be so rude?”
“Auntie, it’s fine. There was just a little misunderstanding between Mo Mo and me; she’s a bit upset with me, but it’s nothing,” Qi Fan said maturely, making Momo seem petty in comparison. Inside, Tao Momo couldn’t help but curse his ancestors. What did he mean by “little misunderstanding”? He had almost knocked her out just now! His attitude only fueled her anger.
“Mo Mo, what’s wrong?” Ye Ya asked curiously, since these two weren’t really familiar with each other.
“It’s nothing, just a little misunderstanding. Come on everyone, let’s raise our glasses and toast to Chen Chen’s growth,” Tao Momo said, eager to divert attention away from herself.
The meal went on pleasantly enough. Afterward, as an apology, Qi Fan personally drove the Tao family home. It was undeniable that Qi Fan had a way of winning over the older generation; by the end of dinner, Tao Ba and Tao Ma had a good impression of him.
In the car, Tao Mama asked, “Qi Fan, are you married yet?”
Focusing on driving, Qi Fan shook his head. “Auntie, not yet.”
Hmph! Any girl who married him would surely be in for a rough time.
“Our Mo Mo doesn’t have a partner either,” Tao Ma chimed in. The moment she said this, Tao Momo guessed what her mother was up to and quickly interrupted her. “Mom, you don’t know? Qi Fan actually has a girlfriend already! Didn’t you see the news a few days ago?”
This was entirely fabricated by Tao Momo. Hearing this made Tao Ma somewhat regretful. “Mo Mo, I’m not saying anything against you, but you’re already 25 and still haven’t dated anyone.”
Qi Fan chuckled inwardly; who would dare marry a fierce woman like her?
Meanwhile, at Ye Ya's house, she was still pondering what had just happened. She couldn’t help but scrutinize Lu Tianyang with a discerning gaze. Feeling her stare, Lu Tianyang found it puzzling and asked, “Xiao Ya, what’s wrong with you?”
“Hey, let me ask you, what kind of person is Qi Fan? I'm worried that he might influence Mo Mo. If he's anything like you, she definitely shouldn't have any dealings with him.”
Lu Tianyang frowned at this unreasonable accusation. How could that scoundrel Qi Fan possibly affect him?
“Ye Ya, can you be reasonable? What have I done to provoke you? You're clearly discriminating against me; it's not fair.”
Who is provoking whom? Ye Ya pondered for a moment. “Lu Tianyang, give me a straight answer. What’s Qi Fan really like?”
“He's decent enough, don’t worry.”
Despite his reassurance, Ye Ya still felt uneasy. Lu Tianyang couldn’t help but chuckle. “Silly girl, why worry about fate? You can’t control it even if you wanted to. It’s already arranged, just like us.”
“Ugh, stop flattering yourself. What’s arranged? You’re just full of yourself.” As she spoke, Ye Ya began unwrapping the gift Qi Fan had sent today. Inside the exquisite box was a Golden Peach of Longevity that looked to weigh at least a pound.
“This—this kid is so young and he sends her a Golden Peach of Longevity? Lu Tianyang, hurry up and return the gift; it’s too extravagant.” Ye Ya shoved the gift into Lu Tianyang's hands.
Lu Tianyang raised an eyebrow. “That brat actually thought this low-end gift was suitable for my daughter? He’s acting like a nouveau riche. Sigh, Xiao Ya, just accept it for now; I’ll have a word with him later.”
Do all rich people enjoy being so ostentatious? Ye Ya was speechless. Anyway, this gift was for Lu Tianyang; it had nothing to do with her.
Lu Tianyang walked over and pushed Ye Ya down onto the sofa. She pushed against his shoulders. “Hey, what are you doing?”
“Stay still; it’ll only take a second.” Lu Tianyang took out the necklace he had given her today. He knew she wouldn’t want it, so he decided to put it on her himself.
Ye Ya looked down to see a necklace around her neck. The design was simple yet elegant, but the diamond was excessively large—there was no way she could accept this.
“Lu Tianyang, I don’t want it,” she said as she prepared to take off the necklace.
Lu Tianyang caught her hand and said with a hint of threat, “Don’t take it off; otherwise, I’ll kiss you right now.”
Ye Ya was stunned. "Lu Tianyang, can you be any more shameless?"
"I can, if you don't behave. I have plenty of ways to teach you a lesson. Go ahead and try me," Lu Tianyang said, releasing her hand and calmly sitting down beside her. Ye Ya was confident in herself, yet somehow this bastard always managed to overpower her.
He didn't seem impressive at first glance, but he was cunningly deceptive. Ye Ya was infuriated; she couldn't beat him in a fight, and he was shameless enough to match her.
"Xiao Ya, wear it. That necklace is the only one in the world, and it has our names engraved on it," Lu Tianyang said softly.
Ye Ya lowered her head and touched the necklace around her neck. Looking back at Lu Tianyang, she felt confused and couldn't help but ask, "Lu Tianyang, what are you trying to pull this time? Pretending to be deeply in love?"
Lu Tianyang was somewhat angry and frustrated. "I don't need to pretend; I just want to give it to you."
After he spoke, they both fell silent. Lu Tianyang pondered why he needed to go through such lengths to make Ye Ya willingly marry him. In truth, he had many ways to make her agree, but that wasn't what he wanted. He desired Ye Ya's genuine willingness.
How did things come to this? Lu Tianyang was taken aback by his own thoughts.
Ye Ya stood up from the sofa, suddenly not wanting to talk to this man anymore or even ask him why. Some things felt like they were separated by a veil, and Ye Ya lacked the courage to lift that veil.
She feared those uncontrollable matters that exceeded her capacity to bear.
Watching her leave, Lu Tianyang also stood up and called out to her, "Ye Ya."
Ye Ya didn't want to turn back and look at him; she simply paused in her steps. Lu Tianyang gazed at her retreating figure, clearly wanting to say many things but at a loss for words.
"Don't be afraid." All his words condensed into those three simple words. Yet they caused a slight tremor in Ye Ya's heart. Lu Tianyang, I really don't know what to do with you.
Back in her room, Ye Ya took off the necklace she had just worn and examined the pendant. Sure enough, their names were engraved on it.
Lu Tianyang, your home feels like a cage. Your family would never accept me and Chen Chen. When the time comes, will you still be able to protect us?
Ye Ya looked at her sleeping daughter in the crib. She knew all too well that growing up in a healthy family was best for a child. But was such an environment truly good? Remembering the years she spent in the Ye Family, she felt an indescribable chill wash over her.
Ye Ya couldn't help but sigh. Finally, she escaped into the bathroom, her mind racing with thoughts so overwhelming that she forgot to bring her pajamas inside. By the time she finished washing up, the clothes she had just changed out of were already soaked.
Damn it, how am I supposed to get out? Lu Tianyang is definitely in the living room. Am I really going to wrap myself in a towel to go out? The problem is, this towel doesn't seem to cover much at all. Today, Guo Ma was tired too, so after the child fell asleep, she went to rest.
Feeling a bit frustrated, Ye Ya finally called out, "Lu Tianyang, are you there?"
Lu Tianyang was in the living room, looking at data on his laptop. It was the first time he heard this woman call for him. He quickly set down his computer and walked over. "Xiao Ya, what's wrong?"
This was strange; why was this woman calling him to the bathroom? Did she think there might be a chance for them to share a bed tonight?
"Xiao Ya, what's wrong?" Lu Tianyang reached the bathroom but heard no response from inside, which made him a bit worried.
Ye Ya steeled herself and opened a crack in the door. "I forgot to bring my pajamas. Can you help me get them?"
"Sure." Lu Tianyang's lips curled into a slight smile as he felt quite pleased with himself.
Damn it, if he weren't outside, would Ye Ya really be in such an embarrassing situation?
Lu Tianyang entered the bedroom, rummaged through her things, and picked out a silk nightgown before bringing it back to her.
Ye Ya felt like she could die from embarrassment but reluctantly opened the door just enough to leave a gap.
"Xiao Ya, you've already had a child; why are you still shy? I won't peek. This gap is so small; how can I hand it to you?" Lu Tianyang was intentionally teasing her, placing the clothes just outside the door so she couldn't reach them, forcing Ye Ya to open the door wider.
Now Ye Ya was angry. Looking at the nightgown, she tugged hard to snatch it away from him. However, she pulled too hard and slipped on the wet floor of the bathroom.
Hearing her scream from inside, Lu Tianyang realized he had gone too far with his joke. Without thinking much about it, he opened the door and saw Ye Ya sprawled on the floor.
He quickly rushed over to help her up. However, seeing Ye Ya like this in front of him made her feel incredibly embarrassed; how could he treat her like this?
"Lu Tianyang, you need to go out! Just leave me alone!" She pushed him away forcefully, nearly on the verge of tears. She truly felt like she could die from humiliation.
Lu Tianyang picked up a towel without caring whether she resisted or not, wrapping it around her as he lifted her off the ground. "Stop messing around; it's cold on the floor. How long has it been since you gave birth?"
"Lu Tianyang, put me down! If you keep looking at me like that, I..." Ye Ya stammered, flustered.
He held her tightly and suddenly pressed her against the wall, kissing her. This time, she fell silent, lost in a daze. Lu Tianyang felt his heart racing.
"I'll carry you back to the room and promise not to touch you again. Just behave," he said as he indeed carried her back to the room. Ye Ya's face turned as red as a cooked shrimp, and she didn't dare to look at him again.
He set her down on the bed and then went to fetch her a set of clothes. "Did you hurt yourself? Can you put on your clothes by yourself?"
Ye Ya nodded and took the clothes from him. "You should go out; I can dress myself."
