Lu Tianyang prepared the gift and checked the time. He called Ye Ya, who had just exited the mall. Her phone vibrated incessantly, and she pulled it out of her pocket, answering, "Hello, what is it?"
"Xiao Ya, where are you?" Lu Tianyang intended to go with Ye Ya; after all, their relationship would have to be made public sooner or later.
"Lu Tianyang, do I need to report my whereabouts to you? If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."
"Don't hang up. Are you planning to go back to the Ye Family tonight? I'll accompany you."
"Lu Tianyang, don't be ridiculous. You can't show up with me. Whether I go back or not is none of your business." Ye Ya felt a cold sweat break out; what was this jerk trying to do?
"Xiao Ya, I'm serious. Don't mess around." She was genuinely afraid of what this man might do. If everyone found out that she had been rejected by the Jing Family and was now marrying Jing Hao's cousin, she feared she would be drowned in gossip.
Ye Ya felt an inexplicable fear rising within her. Tonight, she really didn't want to show up.
"Xiao Ya, don't be nervous; it's going to be fine." Lu Tianyang could sense her tension even through the phone.
"Anyway, Lu Tianyang, don't put me in a difficult position." Ye Ya didn't want to say more and hung up the phone. The banquet started at seven; she planned to arrive around eight-thirty when the guests would likely not notice her. She would just hand over the gift to her grandfather and leave.
She knew that if this matter became public, it would be a disaster for her. She had never anticipated such turmoil again, but Lu Tianyang was someone she couldn't control.
Just after hanging up on Lu Tianyang, Ye Tao's call came through. "Hello, Dad."
"Xiao Ya, have you come over yet? If not, I'll come pick you up."
Ye Ya paused, contemplating whether to tell her father she wasn't going. She hadn't expected this call and found herself unable to voice her refusal.
“Dad, it’s fine. I’ll go by myself.” With that, Ye Ya let out a sigh of relief, thinking that the Ye Family would value their reputation and wouldn’t make things too difficult for her.
The Ye Family’s villa had been redecorated, and colorful lights hung in the front yard, twinkling and creating a festive atmosphere.
The guests were all prominent families from Linjiang, with members of the Jing Family and Ye Family in attendance. Although the marriage proposal had fallen through, they still managed to finalize a business deal; after all, merchants only saw one thing—profit.
Tonight, Ye Qi had dressed up meticulously. The little princess of the Ye Family successfully attracted many people's attention, and they all came to chat with her. However, Ye Qi felt that none of those men could compare to Lu Tianyang.
Eagerly waiting, Lu Tianyang arrived in a flashy Ferrari at the Ye Family’s villa. He was the most promising nobleman in Linjiang, instantly captivating many socialites present, with Ye Qi feeling particularly excited.
“Mom, Tianyang is here!” Ye Qi exclaimed, pulling Zhao Meiqin's hand excitedly. Zhao Meiqin gently patted her hand. “Calm down; don’t act like a lovesick girl. Maintain your lady-like demeanor.”
Ye Qi nodded. Although she didn’t rush over, her eyes never left Lu Tianyang.
Lu Tianyang scanned the venue but was disappointed to find no sign of Ye Ya.
“Mom and Dad, you’re here too.” Lu Tianyang greeted his parents first; their relationship had been somewhat strained lately.
“Yes, almost all the socialites in town are here. Lu Tianyang, if you’re interested in any girl, just tell your mother. Even if it’s Ye Qi, that would be better than marrying that disgraceful Ye Ya.” Although she had never thought much of Ye Qi before, circumstances had changed.
Lu Tianyang merely smiled. “Mom, I’ll go upstairs to deliver a gift.”
A young man of such talent who had already managed the Lu Family so well at his age was greatly admired by Ye Zhen.
“Wishing Grandpa Ye blessings as vast as the East Sea and longevity as enduring as the South Mountain. This is my small token of appreciation.” Lu Tianyang presented a jade snuff bottle to Ye Zhen; just from its quality alone, its value was evident.
“I'm just glad you could come, and there's no need for gifts,” Ye Zhen said with a bright smile. He then intended to introduce Ye Qi, but she could no longer contain her excitement and rushed over, grabbing his arm. “Tian Yang, you’re here!”
Ye Zhen glanced at them and said, “Oh, so you already know each other. No need for introductions then. Qi Qi, make sure to take good care of Lu Tianyang tonight.”
“Sure, Grandpa, I will,” Ye Qi replied with a shy smile.
As the banquet began, Lu Tianyang wandered around the venue but couldn’t spot Ye Ya anywhere. Was she not coming? Ye Qi stayed close to him, and the other men hesitated to approach her even if they wanted to chat.
Holding a glass of red wine, Lu Tianyang took a small sip and leaned against a Roman column in the garden. He looked at Ye Qi and asked, “By the way, isn’t your sister coming?”
Hearing Lu Tianyang mention Ye Ya made Ye Qi feel a bit annoyed. How could she possibly know him? Was she going to ruin her good time again? Ye Ya had always been a thorn in her side, making her feel so irritated.
“Dad told her to come back, but I think she wouldn’t dare show up. Everyone here is someone important; if she came back, it would only embarrass our family.”
“Oh, it seems you really dislike her,” Lu Tianyang remarked, raising an eyebrow slightly. It was evident that not many people in the Ye family liked Ye Ya; one could only imagine what kind of life she led there.
“Of course! She’s just like her shameless mother. If it weren’t for her, our family would definitely be much happier. I don’t understand why my dad insists on bringing her back,” Ye Qi couldn’t help but vent her frustrations, listing all of Ye Ya’s past misdeeds.
She didn’t notice that as she spoke more about Ye Ya, Lu Tianyang’s expression grew darker.
After a while, Ye Qi sensed something was off. Why were they discussing Ye Ya? It was such a downer.
“Tian Yang, let’s not talk about her anymore. How about I take you to see the hot springs behind my house?” The Ye family villa had a hot spring that had never been opened to outsiders.
Lu Tianyang didn’t see any sign of Ye Ya and didn’t want to mingle with the crowd any longer, so he nodded in agreement.
Ye Ya had been standing at the back for quite a while, watching the brightly lit and bustling scene inside. People came and went, and despite her calm demeanor, she felt as if she were staring into a den of dragons.
Her feet remained rooted to the spot, and she couldn't help but let out a bitter smile. In the end, she was still timid. After pondering for a long time, she still didn't dare to enter through the front door.
She thought that in the Ye Family, she would always be regarded as an illegitimate daughter. An illegitimate daughter had no right to enter through the main entrance. Ye Ya decided to sneak in through the back door, avoiding the multitude of guests.
She circled around to the back entrance, holding her gift. When she pushed the door, it surprisingly opened. She wondered who had been careless enough to leave it unlocked.
This was good, Ye Ya thought with a smile. Entering from the back, she could still see the crowd celebrating in the courtyard ahead. Although it was said to be her grandfather's birthday banquet, it was essentially a social gathering for high society.
Today, she wore a blue knee-length dress and had made a bit of an effort with her appearance.
Quietly making her way through the garden, she faintly heard Ye Qi's voice, which sounded quite cheerful. This surprised her; given Ye Qi's personality, there was no reason for her to hide in the empty back garden when there was an opportunity to shine.
“Lu Tianyang, how about we soak in a hot spring? It would be so relaxing,” Ye Qi suggested enthusiastically, imagining how nice it would be for them to enjoy a hot spring together.
“No thanks. Soaking in a hot spring isn’t suitable in this hot weather,” Lu Tianyang replied without a second thought.
“Our hot spring is warm in winter and cool in summer; Grandpa treasures it very much,” Ye Qi said as she moved closer. Just then, her high heels wobbled, and she fell right into Lu Tianyang's arms.
Ye Ya stood at the back, tightening her grip on the gift in her hand as anger surged within her. Lu Tianyang, have you really come to hunt for beauty among the Ye Family?
Suddenly, there was a splash of water. Were they really that impatient?
Ye Ya felt disgusted and spat softly. She didn't want to watch this pair of shameless lovers any longer and turned to leave, feeling a heaviness in her chest. Lu Tianyang, why do you have to seek out someone from the Ye Family? Is this your way of getting back at me?
Gui Sao spotted Ye Ya in the backyard and approached her with surprise. “Miss, you’re back! The master is outside entertaining guests.”
“Gui Sao, please let Dad know I'm back when you see him. I don't want to go out. Is my old room still there?” Ye Ya felt somewhat grateful; it was a relief to encounter Gui Sao.
“It’s all still here. That’s good, Miss. Let’s head upstairs. I’ll tell the master shortly,” Gui Sao replied, aware of Ye Ya's situation in the Ye Family. If she went out, she feared the other women would look at her with disdain.
Having watched Ye Ya grow up in the Ye Family since childhood, Gui Sao knew she was a kind-hearted girl. Over the years, despite the lady of the house's cold sarcasm and bullying, Gui Sao had witnessed it all.
“Thank you, Gui Sao,” Ye Ya said with relief.
With Gui Sao’s help, Ye Ya smoothly entered the Ye Family and returned to her former room.
The room remained unchanged. Ye Ya sat down at the vanity, with the window facing the back garden.
Lu Tianyang hadn’t expected Ye Qi to suddenly throw herself at him. He knew she was doing it on purpose. “Ye Qi, please have some self-respect,” he said, a hint of anger in his voice. He had come to the Ye Family for Ye Ya.
Ye Qi hadn’t anticipated Lu Tianyang would be upset. “Tian Yang, I’m sorry! I really didn’t mean to. How about we go to my house so you can change into one of my brother's clothes? You should be able to wear them.”
He wondered if Ye Ya had arrived yet. If she had, how could he face her looking like this? He was just worried that silly woman would be bullied.
“Alright,” Lu Tianyang nodded.
Then, Ye Qi took Lu Tianyang's hand and led him around to the back entrance of the Ye Family. Lu Tianyang couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief; thankfully, no one had seen them.
Meanwhile, upstairs, Ye Ya clenched her hands tightly together before finally slamming one palm down on the table, causing the books on it to rattle slightly.
Lu Tianyang, could you be any more shameless? Watching them enter the Ye Family, Ye Ya didn’t know what they intended to do and didn’t want to know. All she knew was that she could never let that jerk touch her or Chen Chen again; he had no right to be Chen Chen’s father.
Ye Qi led Lu Tianyang into Ye Bo's room. When Gui Sao came downstairs and saw the two of them, she couldn't help but ask, "Second Miss, what happened? Why are your clothes all wet?"
"It's nothing, Gui Sao. You can go now," Ye Qi said, eager to send Gui Sao away so they wouldn't be disturbed.
Gui Sao couldn't help but glance back one last time. Was it really appropriate for the Second Miss to bring a man up here like this?
Once inside Ye Bo's room, Ye Qi rummaged through Ye Bo's wardrobe and pulled out a shirt. She held it up in front of Lu Tianyang. "Tian Yang, Ye Bo's build is about the same as yours. You should be able to wear this. There are new clothes here; most of them were bought by my mother and haven't been worn."
Lu Tianyang took the shirt and looked at Ye Qi, noticing that she had no intention of leaving.
"Ye Qi, I'm going to change. Are you sure you want to stay?"
Ye Qi smiled slightly, her lips curving up as she wore a pink dress that evening. "Tian Yang, do you really want me to go?" she said, her finger lightly tracing over Lu Tianyang's chest, laden with meaning.
