Lu Tianyang returned home to find Ye Qi and Zhao Meiqin already there, though he couldn't recall when they had arrived. The memory of Ye Ya's suffering from the previous night weighed heavily on his mind; even in her sleep, she had been plagued by nightmares. His expression was grim.
Du Huiru noticed her son’s return and hurried over. "Lu Tianyang, why didn’t you come home earlier? We have guests! After all, Qi Qi is your good friend."
Seeing Lu Tianyang's dark mood, Ye Qi felt a twinge of fear. After all, he had openly rejected her the night before. Yet now, everyone seemed to believe she should be with him, so she mustered her courage and approached him.
"Tian Yang, you’re off work now. Are you tired?" she said, linking her arm through his in a sweet, dependent manner. However, to Lu Tianyang, her actions only elicited disgust.
"Let go," he said coldly, shaking off her hand without hesitation.
"Lu Tianyang, what’s going on? Last night you and Qi Qi seemed to get along just fine," Du Huiru remarked, sensing something was amiss. She had thought he was interested in Ye Qi after seeing them together the previous evening, which was why she had invited Zhao Meiqin over.
"Mom, why did you ask me to come over tonight? If it’s for her, don’t waste your effort. I will never marry her," Lu Tianyang stated firmly, glancing at the situation and understanding his mother’s intentions.
"You little brat, what are you saying?" Du Huiru exclaimed angrily. Ye Qi and Zhao Meiqin’s expressions soured as well; although the Ye family was not as affluent as the Lu family, being publicly rejected like this was humiliating.
"I’ll say it again: Mom, stop trying to arrange things. Besides Ye Ya, I won’t marry anyone else. And let me make this clear to both of you: if you dare bully Ye Ya again, I won’t let it go with the Ye family," Lu Tianyang declared before turning on his heel and leaving. Behind him, Du Huiru shouted in anger, but he didn’t care anymore—especially not about the Ye family.
This mother-daughter duo had bullied Ye Ya for years; he felt he had been merciful by not confronting them sooner. The thought of marrying Ye Qi was nothing but a dream.
Later that evening, Chen Chen was restless while Ye Ya struggled to calm her down. After finally giving the little one a bath and getting her to sleep, Ye Ya sighed in relief.
"Lady, why don’t we eat first? It’s almost eight o’clock," Guo Ma suggested. She had eaten earlier and the dishes had been ready for some time; taking care of children was indeed exhausting, especially during the past few months.
"Alright, thank you Guo Ma," Ye Ya replied graciously. She never regarded Guo Ma as merely a servant of the Lu family; rather, having Guo Ma around made things much easier for her.
Just as they were about to serve the food, the door opened with a soft click. Ye Ya looked up to see Lu Tianyang standing there with an unhappy expression. Wasn’t he supposed to be having dinner with Ye Qi? Why was he back so early?
"Young Master, have you eaten? We made plenty of food today," Guo Ma asked.
"No, I haven’t eaten yet. I’ll join you," Lu Tianyang said as he sat down at the table. He glanced at Ye Ya, who looked at him with a puzzled expression. "Hey, go wash your hands before we eat."
"Okay." Following Lu Tianyang's suggestion, Ye Ya went to wash her hands before returning to the table.
The dishes were all prepared by Guo Ma, and they were quite abundant. Guo Ma's cooking skills were impressive, and Ye Ya felt as if she was raising a pig every day, her waistline growing thicker by the day. However, since the child was still nursing, she couldn't afford to cut back.
After washing her hands, Guo Ma quietly returned to her room, not wanting to disturb the couple's dinner.
Lu Tianyang served Ye Ya a piece of chicken and some vegetables. "Eat up. Why are we having dinner so late today?" He felt a twinge of concern; their house was too small, and even if he wanted to hire another servant, there was no place for them. Ye Ya was as stubborn as a mule and refused to move.
"Why are you back?" Ye Ya asked while eating, unable to hold back her curiosity. After asking, she felt a bit silly; hadn’t she said she wouldn’t concern herself with such matters? It was his choice who he wanted to be with.
"Don't mention it. Just eat more." The topic made Lu Tianyang angry; he never expected his eccentric mother would invite Ye Qi back. Now, seeing anyone from the Ye Family made him furious.
Although Ye Ya didn’t want to admit it, her mood inexplicably brightened when she saw Lu Tianyang had returned. Thinking it through, she realized that Ye Qi's plans for today had failed. She looked at Lu Tianyang and asked, "What beauty from someone else's family has upset you?"
Speaking of this matter reminded Lu Tianyang of the morning news. He felt it necessary to explain himself; otherwise, this woman might misunderstand him again. Ye Ya didn't have the best impression of him.
"Xiao Ya, the newspapers are full of nonsense. Don’t take it to heart. I've already sent Zuo Kai to handle it. Next time they report something, it will be about us two—don’t worry."
Hearing this made Ye Ya break into a cold sweat. What did he mean by “about us two”? Was he trying to get all the women in town to curse her?
"Lu Tianyang, you and Ye Qi really do make a good match," Ye Ya said with a hint of bitterness.
While serving her more food with his chopsticks, Lu Tianyang replied, "I only match with you. Now eat your meal and stop overthinking things; I know you tend to have too many thoughts."
After saying that, he glanced at her and couldn’t help but add, "Xiao Ya, are you jealous?"
"Pfft! Who would be jealous? You should eat more of this sweet and sour pork!" Ye Ya retorted before directly picking up a piece of sweet and sour pork and stuffing it into Lu Tianyang's mouth. He cooperated well; the flavor of that piece of pork was particularly delightful.
After finishing dinner, Ye Ya cleaned up the dishes while Lu Tianyang played with the child in the room. She didn’t want to get involved anymore. Walking over to her computer, she opened her project plan. Tao Momo had worked too hard lately; she planned to arrive at the store early to help out. The child could go with Guo Ma since there was a break room in the back of the store.
Not long after Ye Ya sat down, Lu Tianyang accidentally made the child cry. The sound sent him into a flurry of panic. "Xiao Ya, Chen Chen is crying!"
"It’s probably just a diaper change; just replace it," Ye Ya replied nonchalantly. She didn’t go over because she wanted him to realize that making the child cry came with consequences—she wanted him to think twice before waking the baby up just to play with him again.
Lu Daren placed the child on the bed. Although he had watched Ye Ya change diapers many times, when it came to doing it himself, he realized he was truly more of a theoretical person. However, changing a diaper for his daughter was not something that would challenge Lu Daren.
After some time of struggling, Chen Chen had cried herself hoarse, staring at him with wide eyes from the bed.
"Xiao Ya, all done! Chen Chen, see how great Daddy is?" Lu Tianyang said proudly as he held the child and turned to Ye Ya for praise.
When Ye Ya walked over, still worried, she nearly lost her temper at the sight. The button was done up incorrectly. "You, how can you be such a father? The button is supposed to be in the front!"
Holding the child, Lu Tianyang shrugged it off. "As long as it works, that's all that matters. Chen Chen doesn't mind Daddy's mistakes, right?" He kissed the little one, who surprisingly smiled back at him. Ye Ya felt speechless; well, it didn’t matter—once the child needed another change, they would have to do it again anyway.
As Ye Ya made her plans, she occasionally heard Lu Tianyang talking to the baby on the bed. After a while, when she noticed it had gone quiet, she turned to look and saw him carefully placing the child into the crib.
Having tired himself out playing with the baby, Lu Tianyang's gaze naturally shifted to her. He walked over and said, "Wife, don’t tire yourself out so much. Let me handle earning money. By the way, I have something for you."
With that, he pulled a bank card from his pocket and handed it to Ye Ya. "This is for our child's growth fund; you can keep it safe." If he had said it was for her, she definitely wouldn’t have accepted it. But since it was for Chen Chen, that changed everything.
"Lu Tianyang, I don’t need this; I can take care of Chen Chen," Ye Ya replied as she looked at the platinum card, knowing it must contain at least hundreds of thousands. Although she was poor, she wasn’t desperate enough to take his money.
"I have a share in this too; this money isn’t for you; it's for our daughter. Don’t overthink it." Without caring whether she wanted it or not, he placed it directly on the table. This woman was always so stubborn; sometimes it really frustrated him.
"Enough already! Just go out and don’t disturb me," she said, not wanting to argue since she knew she couldn’t win and didn’t want to waste time.
Now Lu Da Zongcai was unhappy. He thought about how he worked tirelessly all day long and finally returned home wanting to hug his wife only to find her still a workaholic. This simply wouldn’t do.
Lu Tianyang directly shut down her computer.
"Hey! What are you doing? Why did you turn off my computer?" Ye Ya exclaimed angrily, feeling like biting him out of frustration.
"It’s late; time for bed," Lu Tianyang insisted as he took her hand and pulled her away from the computer.
"You’re insane! Why do you care if I sleep or not? You haven’t even showered yet; you stink! Let go of me!" Ye Ya felt like she had invited a wolf into her home; her position in this household seemed more precarious by the day.
She feared the day when her heart would fall completely; that was her greatest fear.
At this moment, Ye Ya was unaware that in every little interaction they had, Lu Tianyang had quietly transformed into the air around her, merging into her life.
“Oh, then I’ll go take a shower now. You wait for me in bed,” Lu Tianyang said. He had already asked the doctor, and since Ye Ya had given birth over two months ago, her body had mostly recovered. There was no problem with resuming intimacy.
Hearing his words, Ye Ya couldn't help but blush. Damn it, what was this? It was clearly her house and his bed; what right did this man have to be so brazen?
Lu Tianyang was indeed quick in the shower; he was out in less than five minutes. This speed made Ye Ya doubt whether he had actually cleaned himself properly.
However, Lu Da Zongcai responded, “Of course I’m clean. If you don’t believe me, come check.”
Ye Ya shot him a glare, thinking: Damn it, he’s clearly taking advantage of her. Besides, what was there to see?
Moreover, Chen Chen was right next door. Although the child was still small, Ye Ya couldn’t accept it in her heart. But when she thought about it, she was startled by her own thoughts. Had she really prepared herself mentally for this?
“Lu Tianyang, let me make this clear: either you sleep on the sofa or you don’t touch me; otherwise, I won’t be polite to you.” Since he was being so shameless, she could only respond this way.
“Xiao Ya, go ahead and be rude to me; I don’t mind.” With that, the man transformed into a lecherous wolf, lying on the big bed as if waiting for Ye Ya to do whatever she wanted with him. Furious, Ye Ya leaned over and pinched him. “Lu Tianyang, you beastly pervert!”
